  1. Good ol Gio is 8-6 with a 3.63 ERA. 1.37 WHIP isn't great, but those aren't bad numbers.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) I don't like Beckham batting after AJP and Viciedo when facing a LHP, as that's a good recipe for having Beckham bat with no one on. Except for last night, where he kept coming up with people on. Anyway, right now I'm worrying more about the 3 slot in our lineup than the 2 slot.
  3. 6 IP, 2 BB, 2 hits, 1 ER for Marquez. It'd be really nice to see him find a groove the next month or so.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) Jack Skille signs a one year 600K deal with he Hawks. http://blogs.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2010/...o_one-year.html Qualifying offer was 900K, 2-way deal. Instead he signed a cap-friendly $600k deal to force himself into the lineup. Smart move. He'll be an UFA in 2011. So, does this move clear a bit more cap space?
  5. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) It looks to me like Rickets is almost forced to keep Hendry just for financial reasons. If the Cubs are that broke, have to sell off their high salaried players for pennies on the dollar and go with kids, repair their run down ballpark, and still charge high ticket prices; then the Sox could be primed to take a larger market share in the Chicago area. If we could put together a strong pennent push this season and next, we could own this city. I don't know if the Cubs are legitimately "Broke" right now. I think the reality is...they signed some serious bad contracts that are going to hurt them...but on top of that, as a business decision, they can probably make a lot more money by cutting back on salary from here, because they won't lose a whole lot in ticket or ad sales from here.
  6. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) The Brewers should ask for pitching only. Hudson, Santos, and whoever is our #2 picthcing propsect is what i'd ask for if I was them. If I was KW i'd still rather try and pry Hart from them. To me, he makes the Sox better defensively and offensively and will cost alot less. Our #2 pitching prospect after Hudson? Yeesh. That's basically Sale, and he can't be traded until December even as a PTBNL. Beyond him....wow. That's bleak. Supposedly, when the Giants asked about Hart, the starting point was either Jonathan Sanchez or Madison Baumgartner
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) I think I used the wrong spelling, I was going for "Smeagol" as in Gollum to go with the reference of Lord of the Rings. As in once Smeagol got the ring, he became evil and eventually lost the ring. I knew what you were going for. I just thought that was a good joke. For me to poop on!
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Although I guess maybe that team is Smigel, and eventually the Bulls will get it for the good of everyone. Triumph the Insult Dog creator Robert Smigel?
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) It sure as hell ain't Beckham and Hudson. No f***ing way. Especially now that they're serious doubts that Peavy will ever be the same again. Frankly, if I were the Brewers, that's the kind of package I'd expect for Fielder.
  10. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) I don't get that sentiment at all. The team has been on a ridiculous tear -- one that I've never seen in my time as a fan. They are kicking the s*** out of everybody. They should definitely address the main weakness (offensive production/consistency) and go for it this year. If someone was available for a reasonable price, I'd consider it...but the response is...next year, we really need some young guys to fill the holes we're going to create due to FA. That's still my big worry.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) And on to Dan Haren or Adam Dunn. Though what would they do with Gordon? They have Weeks and Escobar... They're trying to move Weeks now as well.
  12. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) A backup PG with range or a sniper as a SG (which I would prefer, Johnson can swing from SF/PF) would greatly help. Korver can not be your only legit threat from downtown. So, neglecting trade candidates, is there anyone left on the FA market that fills your request?
  13. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) With Pierre pitching then? Do you think he can throw far enough to reach the plate? If Shingo can get that 49 mph thing over the plate...
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) The Phillies need to make a move(s) and they better do it soon. They're nowhere near the same team from 2007-2009. Without Utley, they weren't going to be. Werth's slump isn't helping either.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Not sure why, but when I first glanced at that, the way you posted it, I thought it was position followed by player. I was looking forward to Andruw Jones catching, Paul Koernko in CF and Gavin Floyd playing 2B. I'd buy tickets to that game.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Left handed hitters will love it though. Like Mauer?
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) We'd gone up 7% in the past couple weeks, on basically nothing more than buying an oversold market. The market was due to come back a bit. Disappointing results from about 3 major firms and plummeting numbers for consumer confidence and inflation as well.
  18. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Who cares about the 3/4 of construction projects you drive through?? It's probably not even 1/2 of 1% of the construction going on. There's this thing called the internet. http://www.recovery.org/ Why don't you use that to quell your curiosity instead of promoting the wasteful spending on signs. Just when I thought I found something everyone would agree on....you Baltardize it!! My point by noting that is...it has struck me that there's a lot of work going on that hasn't been ARRA work. Which suggests to me that it was possible to shovel more money out through projects than ARRA did, rather than relying as much on tax cuts as it did. If the ARRA hadn't been so overloaded with tax cuts, you ought to see ARRA signs all over the place. People ought to be frustrated because of the huge additional amount of construction on their roads.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) I'd rather target one of the Cubs bats than Lilly With what type of weapon?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) Unless you are walking or biking, you aren't using roads for free. You are paying taxes on that gasoline that is transporting you around, which is supposed to go directly to fixing those roads. If you are walking or biking, you really aren't hurting the roads anyway. The value of the gasoline tax has declined by about 1/3 over the last 20 years due to not being indexed to inflation, let alone when compared to the increase in gasoline prices.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I don't know what it's like in Chicago but I can tell you driving in and out of NYC is expensive between all the bridges and tunnels. I couldn't tell you how many cars use them every day but it'll cost you anywhere from $5 to $10 to enter the city. Every time. You can cite a few places where the roads have a direct net cost to their use. Can you cite for those of us who want rail development where the free mass transit, similar to all the other roads you can use for free, are? (The only places I can think of I've lived with any sort of free mass transit are the college towns...and usually there the mass transit fee is paid by the university anyway so it's not free to anyone other than the people at the school).
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) His opening day play won him the GG this year (which is incredibly stupid, but he's a deserving choice anyways) and he could very well win several more, but I don't see him ever winning a CY. Another ASG or two are possible but unlikely (more likely if he ever goes to the NL). I'd love to see him in the HoF but I don't see it happening unless he pitches another 10-12 years, which I also don't see happening with him. If Mark pitched another 10 years without injury and without severe loss in performance, I think he'd get there. None of us know if he wants to do that though.
  23. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) Why do you need to see the ARRA sign? Considering that probably 3/4 of the construction projects I've driven through haven't had one...I want to see how much impact the ARRA is having in spurring new construction. My answer so far has been...not nearly as much as I'd have wanted.
  24. On most vehicles it's fairly simple. What kind of vehicle are you talking about?
