  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Your point is very valid, but the difference is that Bird and Magic did not choose those situations because they failed elsewhere. Additionally, those teams developed into legendary teams together. They were not all-stars from other teams who chose to unit together because they failed elsewhere previously. And even then...if you go by the PER number, the 1, 2, and 4 guys in the NBA just decided that they wanted to play together. In the Magic/Bird case...well, I'm not sure who was #1 and who was #2...but one of them was in Boston and one was in LA. So you had a legit rivalry.
  2. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) You do realize that Magic played with 2 other HOF players pretty much his entire career don't you? Didn't hurt Magic or Larry Bird playing with a ton of other HOF players. They were clearly the best players on the floor. Some nights Kareem would take over, or McHale, or Parrish or Worthy etc etc. These arguments are absurd. Michael wouldn't have won s*** without Scottie. There's no reason LeBron won't be the best player on the floor most nights. But you know why that worked? Because there was an equal. There was another competitor team that had an equal shot at it. Even with the Bulls, outside of the 96 season, the Bulls had challenges every year too.
  3. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) when was the last time a team features a SG and a SF who can average 5 assists per game? I dont think the heats would need a starting point guard next season, they would need a three point shooter. Probably like Kyle Korver or JJ Reddick. They will probably operate without a starting point guard next year. Mario Chalmers doesn't count as a PG?
  4. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) I just don't see how they can fill out the roster with 3 max deals. Their bench is going to be a joke, and if one of these guys gets hurt, they will suck. You can sign as many minimum contracts as you want, and they can potentially clear space by trading Beasley for people. They could also potentially get a trade exemption if they did so.
  5. So, btw, I'm visiting Cleveland tomorrow, anyone want a discount Lebron Jersey to burn?
  6. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) expecially with ESPN working to make sure James is considered the GOAT. It's going to be really hard for them to keep the sales pitch up after this, because people aren't going to want to hear it any more.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) the cavaliers should more than any other team The Cavs already did.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) No way that's true. These guys orchestrated this two summers ago. And that's why the teams that were bidding were played for suckers and should lose their jobs.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) You're talking about the Knicks not the Bulls. The Bulls spent two years developing promising young talent while making the playoffs twice. There were no guarantees only chances. The Bulls took a chance. They lost but they didn't lose badly. The Knicks should be firing their management also. So should the Bulls.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Exactly. How can you not like the Thibo hire? Or Boozer? Or going all in for the biggest free agency period ever? These guys want to win. And look at the East sans the Heat. They will. I hate the Boozer deal.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) They wouldn't deserve to be fired. They put the best possible situation out there for LeBron, and he didn't give a s***. Miami's beaches stay warm in the winter. Let's put it this way. They bet everything and lost. They gambled the last 2 years of their franchise and the next 3+ years of their franchise on being able to win one of the top 3 guys this offseason, and couldn't figure out that the top 3 guys had all decided 2 years ago at the olympics that they wanted to play together. They could have won more games the last few years if they hadn't been going for cap space, and decided to go for the cap space instead. For that decision, they got the rights to give a terrible contract to Carlos Boozer. If that's not a fireable offense, then I don't know what is.

  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Frankly I'm glad baseball is such a team game that the best player changing teams isn't a totally do a die move. Although Pujols would never do something like LeBron just did. Really? I could totally see Pujols winding up with a 10 year, $300 mil deal with the Yankees next offseason. I just wouldn't sit there and think "oh, it's over now!" when they signed him, because baseball doesn't work that way.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Me too...if I lived and died with the Bulls like we do with the Sox, I'd be devastated right now. Even in baseball, I can't fathom anything like this being set up. Right now, we have a couple dominant franchises...but they always have legitimate rivals. Yankees have fewer trophies since 2000 than the Red Sox. Other teams develop and get hot. Even when a team outspends everyone, they can only get a couple rings a decade.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Like I said earlier, the only saving grace for me is that its not even one of my top 5 sports to watch, therefor I can somewhat forget it exists. You know what? There's a decent and interesting hockey team in Chicago isn't there.
  16. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) What an absolute joke. I can see guys doing this at the end of their careers, but the joke is 25. Just make 4-6 All-Star teams and have them play 82 times. The NBA is a complete joke and has been for the past decade. Yeah, I'm amazed at how suddenly I'm so much less interested in the NBA. Anywho, please tell me Pax and Forman have already been fired.
  17. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) If Bosh/Wade go to Miami and Lebron goes back to Cleveland, what team in the east is gonna be dominant? Whichever one can trade for Rose and Noah.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) Oh I agree...I'm just pointing out that Michael often expected special treatment because of who he was, especially when he was young. There's a difference between getting special treatment and not being able to be told no. To get to the top, the Bulls had to tell Jordan no. The other example is firing his favorite coach...Doug Collins, and replacing him with that crazy NY Knick zen guy with the mustache. I can't think of a time when the Cavs have openly told Lebron no. He's picked trades, he's picked players, he's picked coaches, he's picked the offense, he's picked the defense.
  19. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:56 AM) As long as Beckham is still bad, let's ride Lillibridges' streak then. It's not as if we lose anything on defense either. Did you miss the 9th inning yesterday?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) As for him not demanding trades and asking for players, why do you think Jerry Krause and Michael clashed so often? And look what happened when we listened to the GM. We did deals like Charles Oakley traded for Bill Cartwright, clearing room for this 2nd year kid wearing these crazy glasses. And I think he even had a twin. You can't win a championship with a guy wearing those goggles like that Grant kid.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:38 AM) This is big news if true. B&B talked about you have give lebron his entourage and run of the place. I disagree. Jordan and Kobe never needed this. If that's what he wants then I can't say he cares about winning. It's not like he can go to Miami with Riley and they are going to allow that. Fixed that for you.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) There is a difference between teaching defense and teaching the mental approach of playing defense. From a technical standpoint, there were really not many flaws to Alexeis game. His flaws were mental things like taking his time on a play when it didn't merit it, or not understanding a situation, and making a bad decision. Those things have really been reduced this year. Or simply forgetting to pay attention to where he was throwing a ball.
  23. Ozzie did that a lot with Podsednik/Iguchi in 2005 though too.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) Watching Lilli drop that bunt today was heaven. If he has really added that to his game, he can stick in the majors. For some ungodly reason he used to think he was a powerhitter. He can add 50 points on to his batting average if he has everyone shallow and cheating when he hits. Dude...he hit a ball 425 feet out to CF. Either he's become a power hitter or he still thinks he is. He nailed that triple he hit as well.
  25. Why is it that every time I see this team in person they're facing a southern california team? The last 2 kinda made sense because I was living in L.A....but getting the Halos again? That's a bit odd. Win for me! I want some during-game fireworks!
