QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:20 AM) is it me or is IraHeatBeat a fanboy more than a beat writer? I cannot imagine KC Johnson saying some of the things the IraHeatBeat has been saying We keep saying that there's a difference between the Chicago/LA/NY markets and everywhere else.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 04:17 AM) According to the Daily Herald's Mike McGraw the Bulls were unwilling to offer Lebron's management and assortment of leeches the same privileges as allowed in Cleveland. This bit of news, for me, was enough to sway my opinion of our position with Lebron. It had been teetering on the edge, but this was that final push. I cannot imagine him leaving Cleveland unless he's completely comfortable; both on and off the court. Even though I do not know all the perks his management and friends had, I'm sure it involved their constant presence around him. We may fit his view of the type of roster he'd prefer to play for, but if he feels that being surrounded by his people helps him deal with fame, basketball, whatever, it may be the excuse needed to eliminate us. If Lebron needs the Sammy Sosa/Barry Bonds locker room entourage to get through a game, then you're not going to want him nearly as much, because you're getting a guy who's primed to make the same mess in your city that he made in Cleveland...demanding stupid trades, controlling your coaching staff/front office, forcing your coach and roster to play the type of system he wants rather than what would be the most effective.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) We're all going to die anyway, right? Well, unless you earn about $250k per year. Then you're set. That's the way the Republicans like it.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) I am not certain where I stand on this http://newsblaze.com/story/20100629112611z...b/topstory.html basically, without hard evidence several groups have sued BP to stop burning the oil until it can be determined that sea turtles (endangered) are safe. I spend some time ewach summer volunteering at Sea Turtle Inc and am sympathetic to their mission and the plight of sea turtles, but I'm not certain if stopping the burning isn't ultimately better than not burning. Really, the problem is...there's no good answer. It's probably a question of whether you kill 80% of them or 90% of them. And since it's kind of hard to do a controlled study comparing burning and not burning during the worst peacetime oil spill in history...yeah.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) I'm not sure playing with a European C like Okur helped Boozer either. Probably caused some matchup problems for Boozer having to deal with the opponent's best low post defender. OTOH, Boozer was the Jazz's worst low post defender.

Vote Paulie In
How in the world did Konerko and Votto not make it? Did they just decide that teams wouldn't carry DH/1b?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Because that's SOOOOOOOO successful to any kind of agressive treatment plans. They just let you die, so that helps their stats. Really? They just let you die? Why didn't you tell me this months ago! Before I went to Germany, got sick, and DIED!

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) nd Balta, the Cubs only have 3 games left against the Pirates. Although that might be a good thing from the Cubs perspective with how they've played against them. That was kinda my point. They could be a .500 team the rest of the year if they don't have to play the Burgh again.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) That would be one way, but not necessarily the *only* way. True. We could try the British/French/German/Swiss/anyone else's method of a government run plan.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) They're an aging team with no money (if they keep LBJ) that has proven to be fatally flawed in the playoffs because they simply don't have the weapons around LBJ to beat elite teams playing playoff level defense. It's not a bad situation, but it's certainly not a great one either. Yeah, but a single intelligent addition the last couple of years or a lucky injury and they'd still have had a real good shot at the title even with that craptackular roster.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) I have a hard time believing Wade and LeBron would go back to their respective teams with no other FA haul than to partner together in Chicago with Rose and Noah. Seems like a ridiculous decision on their parts. Wade especially.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Anyone check out the Cubs 2nd half schedule? Very tough, with tons of games vs Cardinals, Giants, Padres, Reds. Their only hope is to destroy the depleted Astros, as they play them 12 times I believe. But they're close to done with the Pirates by now right?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) I agree, but Cleveland could always make moves and use its high paid guys to land other people. Lets not be ignorant here. Lebron is the best player in the NBA so clearly he'd have some sway and the Cavs could upgrade. I think LBJ staying in Cleveland, Wade/Bosh coming to Chitown, would basically set us up for at least half a decade of amazing basketball rivalries (Bulls/Cle and than the Lakers out west for a while). Would be pretty insane, imo, and real good for the NBA. However, let's give the other side of the coin too...Lebron's been using his clout to get a lot of people coming into Cleveland the last few years, big names, like Shaq, or Heywood, etc. and it hasn't gotten them anywhere. They've totally swung and missed on just about everything they've done, and it's left them with as weak of a roster as you can get; lots of highly paid old people.

Things I don't understand tonight... Why the rotating DH keeps being "Kotsay/Jones" and we never keep Quentin or Konerko actually in the lineup by putting them at DH Why other teams don't put extra LH batters at the bottom of their order against D1 right now.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) true but miami depleted their roster trying to get 3 max slots and i dont see a free agent market that will be like this years for awhile so even if they save their cap space for next yr they still wont be nearly as good if they struck the gold mine this yr If I were Miami, I'd be happy with David Lee this year and Carmelo next year, along with a top 4 pick this year.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) i have a feeling miami is going to be left a big goose egg....they focused too much on the other free agents and not enough on keeping wade IMO Bah...Miami isn't in the same "Screwed" shape that the Bulls are in if they don't land anyone. Miami can use their cap space this year to sign 1 year deal guys to fill out a roster and either trade them midseason to stockpile wanted pieces or to keep their cap space available for the future. The Bulls are screwed starting next year because they have to take a portion of their cap space and use it to extend Noah this summer and Rose next year (assuming a CBA comes about), so they can't hold on to their cap space.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) I could never be disappointed with a haul of Wade and Bosh. NEVER NEVER NEVER. Still, LBJ is the King and still the biggest name in the game. I think the only way they don't continue going after LBJ is if they got a bad vibe from the meeting. I would be more than content with just 1 of the 3. I think that still wins at least 1 title in the next few years, maybe more if they use their MLE's intelligently.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Yes, that was insane. Some great patience by the Reds hitters. I don't know why the Cubs won't fire Piniella. He obviously doesn't want to be there. At this point, he probably sells some tickets because of his name, and there's no reason to pay the salary of a 2nd manager, it's not like someone else is going to win that division this year.
