QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) Actually it can also have the opposite effect. They all can't shoot the same ball. The Celtics had much better complimentary players than these 3. Don't get me wrong, they could probably win 40 playing 3 on 5, but I don't see 70 wins in an 82 game season without depth. That is what gets you to that level. You need the role players. There is no way they will be able to bring in anyone of value to fill those roles. Just watch. They'll be 7-8 deep soon enough with role players.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) Sullinger is going to be a monster in college but it will be interesting to see how his game translates to the NBA. Good not great athlete who is doesn't have great height for an NBA PF. Sounds like Michael Beasley a bit.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) He can say whatever he wants to people privately, but that letter was pretty classless. You have to be the bigger person, especially when you give millions of dollars to kids in their twenties. You have to expect this sort of behavior from them. He just lost $200 million to this 25 year old. His franchise might well wind up bankrupt in a couple years because of this.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Winshares had the trio at 41.1 wins for last season. That means the remaining roster has to make up 30+ wins, no way. Since the regular season is a complete joke, they will get 60 wins, but 72, I doubt it. Wade and Bosh would have to stay healthy and play in at least 80 to do that, and I doubt that happens. They will definitely be a top 3 team in the East, but I don't see them ever achieving 70+ wins. So, you're telling me that if you did nothing but Take Lebron away from Cleveland and Wade away from Miami, they'd only lose 40 wins between the 2? So Cleveland wouldn't go from being a 60 win team to a 20 win team? Totally disagree.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) One thing that bothers me about all the LeBron bashing is this... Who among us would be ripping on LeBron if the three had them had chosen the Bulls instead to pull this off with? I can only imagine the ingenuity that would be on display in defense of LeBron, had that been the case... Frankly, I'd have hated it if they'd tried this on the Bulls, and I'm pretty sure I said so earlier in this thread. I wouldn't have wanted Wade and Lebron. Lebron and Bosh I could have gone with, but that isnt' a guaranteed league owning team. Ditto Wade and Bosh.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) I just saw an episode where they are going to a university on Mars and Fry acts like he has never been there and they can breathe oxygen, when they had been there in the past because Amy's parents live there. Um, that Mars episode was an old episode.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) just curious Balta, do you think the Heat are a lock to win the NBA this year? I think that is where we disagree a little, I think they are certainly a great team, but I also think this is far from a sure thing. Yes. Between minimum salary players and the fact that they're certain to deal Beasley now to fill another hole, I wouldn't be surprised if 72 wins fell.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) I think that's a good point. If season ticket sales go down elsewhere in the league because fans aren't interested in seeing their 7th seed team get their heads knocked in by the tip top teams it could be a real fierce battle amongst the owners as well as between the owners and players. And there's probably going to be a contingent of owners (led by JR for all I know) wanting to make sure that this can't happen again. Plus, think about this...Wade and Bosh coming to town would have been a ticket sales draw. Lebron coming to town would have been a ticket sales draw. Another team near the top of the division would have been a ticket sales draw. Now, the only team that casual fans would show up to see is the Heat. At the least, that's half the number of "marketable opponent" games that you'd have wound up with if LBJ had gone to NY.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) This isn't the first time this has happened though. This Miami thing is just a natural extension of what's been going on in LA and Boston. And even when LA and Boston built their 3 star teams, other teams thought they had a shot. Boston had to go to 7 games in every series except the finals to win their ring. Boston and LA went to 7 games this year. LA even got a first round scare this year.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) It's going to be a while before you see a free agent class this good again, that was a HUGE factor in making it possible. Yao Ming, AKA Mr. Glass, is the second best free agent next year by a wide margin. You know...if this puts any sort of dent in NBA marketing/revenue next year, or in pre-2011 season ticket sales...this just may have made ending the lockout even harder.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) There are only so many guys to go around to accept the minimum salary though... In exchange for a ring though. Plus, wouldn't you trade a 2nd round pick for michael Beasley right now?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) Does anyone think some other group of players will try and unite to form another Superteam? I would watch out for Jay-Z putting something together with those Nets in the next 1-2 years... I don't think the next CBA will leave the possibility for anything like this to happen, just because the cap is going to get much, much stronger.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) I say this with all respect to Wade, I think he is a great and dynamic player, but IMO and others opinions he is either going to have to change his game in 3-4 years or he will fall off the table quickly Change his game...like say, having 2 of the other best players in the NBA make sure that he never has to take a hard hit again?

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Jordan was beyond stats and rings. He took over games. I have never seen Queen James do that. If you haven't, then you haven't been watching. That game against the Pistons in, what, 2007, where he owned the entire 4th quarter?

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) let's have him win one, two and three then he can enter the conversation. Really, no he can't. Even if he's averaging 35/10/10 the next 3 years, he's doing that with 2 of the other best players in the NBA clearing the way for him.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) The league has been going down the drain for awhile now. The entire culture has changed. It is not even entertaining anymore. It is dunks and 3 pointers, just like ghetto ball. I really thought like it was actually going in a positive direction the last few years. New crop of young stars taking over from the old ones, some of the referee problems from earlier this decade were at least starting to clean up, different teams putting it together, etc.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) good, Shaq is terrible now and just clogs up the middle. A big man with range, like what you saw with R. Wallace last year, would have been a better fit. Bah, all they need him to do is block shots and rebound.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) I'm arguing perception here, and it's already started... to call my arguments "absurd" like palehouse chose to doesn't make sense when there's a lot of pundits and the public out there already writing/saying similar things... perception is reality and a lot of people are going to see him bolting to a team with two other names to try and win a championship. It's possible to have a different perception? Didn't he come out and say exactly "I'm doing this to win a championship"? You can quibble with his methods, but from his own mouth, that's exactly what he's doing.
