June Catch All White Sox Thread
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) What in the hell am I missing? He goes out of his way to say how happy he is here, how he thinks we have a chance to win and how he doesn't think the Sox will be going into a rebuilding process then offers a hypothetical situation in which his current team does look to rebuild then he wouldn't want to be a part of it. My god, that's about as well as you can answer that question. He'd have sounded worse if he'd said "No comment/Next question".

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Well then I'd think he's off to Texas in a day. Really, the problem remains the Rangers being in bankruptcy. The rest of the owners are paying for that team right now, and they don't want to pay for them to get better, and the Rangers aren't likely to give up the kind of players we'd want for us to pay AJ's salary.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) He has a really nice change up today. I don't know if the hitters aren't picking it up or what, but they aren't seeing it. It's got really good movement and he's got the arm slot down.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) No, I said they were stock full of righties. I actually like Baker and Nady as platoon guys. Good job by Buehrle there! I meant a couple weeks ago when you said they had a shot to catch the Cardinals. Even with Aramis Ramirez in there, that'd still be a fairly weak lineup.

So wait, the Cubs lineup actually goes Lee, Baker, Nady, Soriano? Fathom, you said this was a playoff caliber lineup? That's a Derek Lee away from being Pirates-worthy.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) And Byrd is swinging at anything within a yard of the plate. He ought to be, that was a big zone for both pitchers.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) 87 On the high fastball yeah, the pitch low and in said 82. Nasty changeup. Delicious.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Ready for the Brent Lillibridge era to begin? I don't know which of them has been more unstoppable.- HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
QUOTE (Drew @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Right. The cabbie incident, the shirtless limo incident—both of those happened on his own time, and this was a work function. Patrick Kane is 21 years old and didn't go to college. Which developmentally puts him about age 19. Kaner's also worth about $31M more than most people his age, so he can buy and do pretty much whatever he wants. I think he's a good kid who just really likes to party, but at this point I wish he could hold it together better. If I'm Rocky, Q, Stan Bowman, or Jonathan Toews, maybe it's time to talk. It's time to talk, but it's also entirely plausible that having "That talk" can backfire. Backfired with me.- For the Love of Chase Blackwood
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) I wish we could have just a couple of threads that don't result in Chase Blackwood talk, let alone new threads about him weekly. Oh Steve, be nice. We have a near-celebrity here now.- The environment thread

By the way, my new Senator had an abjectly embarrassing op-ed piece on energy in the WSJ yesterday. He gives a list of 10 things we ought to do on energy independence, titled "Energy independece for grownups". Raises hand...Uh, Senator? Your angry end statement in #7 contradicts your statement in #5. ANd also...find a way for Utilities to make money from the CO2 produced by their coal plants? That's like asking why they haven't found a way to make money from nuclear waste.- Healthcare reform
Since this got bumped...why not post this.- Piniella vs. Stone
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Or go back to the minors and learn some plate discipline. I'm not sure how much plate discipline you learn putting up a 1.250 OPS in the minors because you've already proven you can hit big league pitching.- Healthcare reform
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) Actually, it hasn't. As always, it depends on how the questions are asked. But that wasn't the case at all while the bill was being debated...you are 100% certain that the American people hated the bill.- The environment thread
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) Which kind of makes me wonder, shouldn't this be a world wide response, not just a BP / US response? Well, first point...it's in U.S. waters, it is a U.S. licensed rig, the U.S. owns the mineral rights, and the U.S. would be taking royalties on the oil that was sold. It is a U.S. problem involving a multi-national company that the U.S. licensed to do the drilling. Second point; as I noted a few pages ago; other nations with expertise in these areas have offered help. The U.S. turned them down.- The environment thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) Of course not. But he needs to show leadership and get the people in place to resolve the issue (oh wait, let me send Eric Holder and lawyers to sue... criminal investigations, etc... yea!!!!!!!, that will help resolve the crisis). But he has no clue who to send or what to do. Everything is reactionary, and he's doing NOTHING to get rid of the beauarcracy in place to get things moving toward a resolution. A finding of criminal negligence is 100% required by the law in order to be able to impose the $4300/barrel fine. If you don't want the DOJ in there, then all you're doing is protecting BP from a fine of a few tens of billions of dollars. - 6/12 GT: White Sox @ Cubs - 3:10pm CDT FOX
