QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Could Stan Van Gundy get fired over the series if they get swept and blown out? They'd be out of their minds to fire him. But I've seen teams do stupider things.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 22, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Nice how you take one fringe guy and he suddenly represents the whole party. Do we even need to go down the Dem side of things? Like the guy who has been lying about his military record for decades? Clean your own house first, it is far dirtier right now. Lindsey Graham or George W.?

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 22, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) Did you even bother to click the link I posted, with Calderon talking to Wolf Blitzer? Not sure where you got your info, but the link has words coming right out of the Mexican President's own mouth. In 2008 the Mexican government voted unanimously to decriminalize illegal immigration. Amnesty International, of course, has issued reports about how the police in Mexico regularly harass immigrants in that country despite the law. Of course, we already decided that Amnesty doesn't do anything in Mexico, so that link doesn't really exist.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 22, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) Oh, does the insurance you don't have cost you that much (despite even with pre-existing most GROUP PLAN insurances let you in six months, I know, details, details...)? Mine's $16,000/year, and that's because I'm in a large group plan, not in the individual market.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Wow Hawk, overreacted on a ball 75 feet from the fence. That was late-career Harry Carey bad.

Hawk got way too excited for that short of a fly ball.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Stoney said earlier that whoever is catching for Marlins today is not much of a hitter but can gun runners down. It was a decent throw but was up the 3rd base line. Alexei should have had that easily.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Just as I type that, Alexei gets gunned down easily. On the clock in my head, when the catcher stretched inside to catch the ball I thought "man Alexei's going to have that easy". Then the camera panned out, and I just kept waiting for him to appear at 2nd. And he didn't. Either Alexei isn't fast enough to be running or that was an awful jump. Goodbye Paul's bat. Gosh, it would have been nice to have the bases loaded with 1 out.

My word, on that pitch and throw, Alexei must have had a terrible terrible jump.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) f***ing hell. Like it or not, either check the textbooks of the district your kid goes to or pay for a private school. Just no way around it any more. Texas doesn't think this country has enough Rand Paul's. With any luck, there'll be enough sane people in Texas to toss out half of the school board members there in elections later this year. Somehow though I doubts it.

Conservatives and the ACLU
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) It isn't about offensive necessarily, but it is about being disruptive. That is a big push, at least in the schools around here. This is coming from a place that saw a real life race riot in the early 90's. I feel like I remember this, but I just can't pull out any specifics.

Gotta agree with Cowley on this
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) I actually took that from the Marlins broadcast last night so it appears their onscreen graphic was wrong. The average age of a White Sox player is 30.1 the average age of a Red Sox palyer is 30.7, and the average age of a Yankee is 30.8. Still not as sizeable a difference as you’d think and we are up there in age. I think the stat is actually that we're the third oldest team in the A.L. And if Omar Vizquel gets cut and replaced by say, Retherford at some point...the average age would decline from 30.1 to 29.2. "Average" really isn't telling you what you want to know there. What you actually want to look at for this comparison is either the average age of the most common starters or perhaps the median age.

Walks Hanley Ramirez, gives Cantu a cookie up over the plate and at the hips on the first pitch.

Those Texas history book requirements are finally official. I'm a big fan of how they added a nice set of compliments for Jefferson Davis and compare him to Lincoln as a great leader. And Y'all said texas wasn't part of the south. Why else would they praise him?

QUOTE (Disco72 @ May 22, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Atlanta doesn't need pitching. If the Braves make a trade, it'll be for a bat, not an expensive starter. Atlanta's actually 6th in the NL in runs scored and 8th in ERA.

How good are The Rays?
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 21, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) I forgot they drafted Tim Beckham. Honestly though, it was easy for them to suck because their attendance wasn't really affected either way. Once they got a good GM and their scouting department improved, they were bound for destiny. I wish the Sox could do this. Get some real superstars in there. Bah, the Rays are one of the few teams out there that you can genuinely say have had much better draft positioning than we could possibly have dreamed of getting. Guys like Upton, Longoria, Delmon Young (turned into Garza), David Price have been beyond what we could have gone for.
