  1. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 20, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) Oh okay cool... Let me try this out: I got tickets to the game on Saturday, and it should be good... The Marlins got Chris Volstad pitching and we all know how the Sox light up pitchers that they've never seen before... I think that's yellow. But it's a beautiful yellow.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 20, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) Rios's struggles last year was not a mental issue. There is a noted difference in the swing. If Beckham's troubles are only mental then why is he spread stance being tried. Its not just mental. Its something else. Even Stoney is pointing out that they are attacking him differently and he is not adjusting to it. About 2-3 weeks ago it was obvious on air that Beckham was flying open on everything.
  3. BP has officially/unofficially confirmed that the official estimate of 5000 barrels per day gushing out of the well is woefully inaccurate. BP now says it is collecting 5000 barrels per day using the tube they inserted a few days ago...and that is only a small portion of what is gushing out, based on the videos. The press, of course, will continue to report the 5000 barrels per day number. Why? Screw you, they know better, that's why.
  4. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 20, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Just bring in Hrniak and see if he can help Gordon or CQ. Either they are not listening to the current voice, or the current voice is not fixing the issue. Stone keeps talking about a specific way they are pitching Gordon, and we see quotes about everything is fine with Gordon's swing its just a mental battle. Whatever, at the point we have 3 young players and all are not hitting. If you are not replacing Walk then bring him in some help. I haven't watched GB closely in a few days, especially since he's had days off, but a couple weeks ago, yeah his swing was legitimately screwed up, in a technical sense.
  5. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 20, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) Does green text = sarcasm? I probably missed it on some other thread... yes, that is a general rule here. Green text = sarcasm.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) He won't be great no, but it is still early Balta. Just 3 weeks ago I remember Pierre was sportin a -1.9 UZR in LF. Now it is up to +6.4. (alot of that you can see in games with some of the plays he makes, and this is comming from someone who hates Pierre) I know...hopefully he will improve. Just sayin'...his defense this year has not only been bad, it's been exceptionally bad, even for him.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Teahen's UZR was already bad when he got here at 3B playing at 3B majority in 05-06. And yet, it's even worse this year.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) AJ at 2, Kotsay at DH, no Rios tonight. Frankly, Rios needed an offday.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Depends if you can't hit too though. Vizquel has lost about 5 steps and is still very good defensively at age 44. Vizquel is an interesting comparison though, because, despite being at what I'd say is a harder position, he doesn't make that many errors. He hasn't made an error since 2008. In 2006 he made 4 errors as SS for the entire bloody season.
  10. Financial reform bill passes cloture vote.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Nice find. So he was pretty much equal to his career average as a fielder. It is to be expected when you have incredible range at a position. Jose Valentin comes to mind even though he was making like 30+ errors a season. He had great range at SS however. Mostly the simple plays you lose focus more than the harder ones. The problem with being that kind of fielder though is...if you lose a step at all, then suddenly you're worthless.
  12. I think this goes here because otherwise I can't guess what "Niem" might refer to.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) He is not suppose to be great at SS and 3B, two positions he never played in his career prior to last season (not counting the occasional LF, etc.. as well) Hard to get in a groove at 2B also when you only play once.. maybe twice a week (or 2 weeks), not to mention are consistently being moved around. Like you pointed out though, his UZR was still pretty good with all that happening. Imagine if he stayed there, playing everyday, at one position the whole season. Probably also worth noting that high error totals/fairly low fielding percentages were pretty commonplace for Nix coming up through the minors as well. His career FP at 2b in the big leagues is .973, in the minors at 2b it was .972.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Isn't Nix acceptable at 2B? He's not that big a butcher there is he? He's not supposed to be. But it's worth noting that he had 6 errors at 2b last year in about 50 games at the position. If he kept up that exact pace for a full season, he'd have led MLB in errors for 2b. Yeah, that's not all of it, and he had a positive UZR there last year so he does make up for some of the errors by covering a lot of ground, but I wouldn't ignore the errors there.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) If we're in rebuilding mode, Mark and his $14M salary will be traded before ST of next year. Even a team in rebuilding mode has to be able to market itself.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) I don't like the idea of paying Mark and Peavy $30+ million a year while we do this rebuilding... Unfortunately...it's really hard to move those 2 contracts and get back fair value. The Padres saw that last year; you're supposed to get a much better package for the guy who won the cy young award and pitching triple crown 2 years ago than what the Padres got, and trading Buehrle is, like it or not, the sort of major marketing hit that really hurts your revenue potential.
  17. This is 100% accurate and it really can't be interpreted as anything other than a naked attempt to cover BP's arse. Especially the lack of public release of most of the available video and the lack of improved estimates of how much gunk is now out there.
  18. Couple notes in reply to previous post: 1. Thanks for adopting the D2 nickname. 2. D2 is by no means ready for the show, and may well need a year +. He's terrible right now, he appears to know it, and they're trying to help him make major revisions to his swing to help him cut down on the K's. We're talking sub.700 OPS at AAA. He'd come up and make Beckham and Quentin look like they're raking. 3. I have a lot of difficulty right now seeing what conditions would be required for D1 to sign a 5 year deal. I just don't see it happening.
  19. Why should Ben Nelson have an opinion on whether or not it's a good thing to regulate ATM fees? He's never used one, so he'll just do whatever his bank tells him. And also...his word for those little tiny light/laser scanners that stores use to scan barcodes? Holograms.
  20. Redskins WR Santana Moss is the first name on the Dr. Galea HGH list.
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 20, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) You answered your very first question with the blurb you posted. Number of ER's goes down, so number of people going to the remaining ones goes up. That's not what it says, it says the total number of ER visits has gone up, not just the number of visits per ER.
