  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) WTF cars are you even talking about? Please elaborate... The Chevy Volt, first production plug-in hybrid will be out later this year in the U.S. Runs 40 miles on electric power, which, in most markets, will cost you the equivalent of $.80/a gallon and which produces vastly less CO2 than the inefficient internal combustion engine. Then, once you drain the initial batteries down to a certain evel, it switches over to a normal gasoline engine to allow you to run a full day trip if you need that distance. The Chinese got their version to the market 2 years before the U.S. Yes, it's just a passenger vehicle and you said you needed an SUV. I have no problem with that; the distance on the battery is all about weight. If you double the weight, perhaps the battery only lasts you 20 miles instead of 40. People have done the math on this actually. ON average, if you can give most American drivers 40 miles on battery power, you eliminate 90% of American's need for oil and you can do all of that off of the electric grid. If you give them about 20 miles, you eliminate about 80%, because most trips to work, the store, etc., are less than 10 miles and a lot of the gasoline is wasted while sitting in traffic or stopping and going. And, you can power it with wind power all you want, because wind keeps blowing at night.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) Eh, maybe if our auto industry paid what the Chinese one paid, we could have done that much R&D. Nice to see you finally admitting it and endorsing paying slave-labor level wages. The future of the American Worker according to Republicans? $2.50 an hour. You want a bathroom break? Here, let me shoot you in your bladder, that will drain it automatically.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:58 AM) The only way the auto industry changes -- and it will change, but only in response to this -- if when gasoline costs 10+$ per gallon. As long as they keep it under 5$, it's not changing...because people don't really care about anything other than their own convenience. There was a huge impact on driving habits when gas prices spiked in 2008, and that was only in the $3-$4 a gallon range.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 18, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) I have no need of a car that can only drive 50 miles and then need to be plugged in for hours to recharge...just as I have no need of a car that has almost no room in it. I go on many camping/road trips throughout the year, and I need space, and I need the ability to go where normal cars fear -- off road. For this, I use my Jeep -- and there is no viable alternative to a gasoline Jeep for this, as of yet. I hope they invent something, someday, but even then...we're talking 10+ years before it's ready in a viable manner. Considering that China already has those vehicles on the market in car form and the U.S. will by the end of the year, and once those take off it'll only be a year or two before the SUV versions start hitting for you...stop yawning. Hell, we'd be at the point you wanted already if we'd spent the last 5 years putting as much money into R&D as the chinese.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) How much is Rashard Lewis getting paid? WHatever it is, it's too much. A lot.
  6. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 18, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) What moves could they possibly make they they wouldn't already be trying to make though?? There are 2 things that they could try to do that they've passed on the last couple years. First, if hypothetically the Cavs signed LeBron for the next 6 years (With no opt-out clauses), they could afford to invest a couple years in developing a guy like the Celtics have done with Rondo or like the Bulls did way back with Grant and Pippen. Instead of trying to find guys with talent that could grow in their system, they've been all about trying to find that one veteran piece who could fill the hole they had the previous season (Williams, Shaq). The other thing they could do is find a coach willing to piss Lebron off.
  7. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 19, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) I never counted the Celtics out going into the playoffs, although I knew they were going to play with more intensity and just better than the 2nd half of this season, they've just taken their play to a whole new level. They're also healthy for the first time in months.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:30 AM) I wonder if the Wizards want Wall though, they are already paying Arenas big bucks(that they cannot get out of), and they are similar players. Plus, that would be a pretty small lineup if they had Wall and Arenas starting in the same backcourt. In the hypothetical world, you deal Wall for a top of the line front line piece that you can stick in next to Arenas, but really, who's going to give something up like that for an unproven draft pick? Especially since a lot of the really top guys are already free agents this offseason. You're not giving up Dwight Howard for him. If you were the Nuggets would you do Anthony for Wall?
  9. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 19, 2010 -> 02:57 AM) Only reason Howard is scoring is b/c the Celtics arent double teaming him. Playing him straight up is keeping Orlando's 3pt threats from getting wide open shots. The Magic are done. The Celtics are daring Howard to beat them and he can't.
  10. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) The advanced billing of a lot of that talent contains players who may or may not be reliable offensive pieces year in and year out (Quentin, Beckham and Ramirez) Which of those 3 did you want to dump/replace during the offseason?
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) And Teahen/Linebrink/MacDougal. Linebrink was signed as a free agent.
  12. Not sure where to stick this and I'm not putting it in the Lebron thread...but that Canadian sports doctor indicted today for providing U.S. athletes with HGH and such had nearly 1/2 of his clients in Cleveland. He also appears to have had a particularly lucrative client in NY. Doesn't mean it's baseball, but most of the treatments happened July-Sept.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) If we can get it to 4 to 5 games back over the next 10 days what does Kenny do? Stand pat until July.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I don't consider Texas as "The South". What do you consider it?
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) All incoming freshmen at IIT get an iPad. Really? They can't figure out more effective ways to spend their funds than that?
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Swish definitely had his worst year as a ML player here. But even then, he wasn't below replacement kind of bad or anything. Sadly, Wise really did outplay him.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Scouts LOVE this kid. You would think they were working for him the way they talk him up. I've read about 5 different scouting reports on him and I've seen comparisons to Andre Dawson, Moises Alou, Juan Gonzalez, Jason Heyward and Mike Stanton. Then why would he be there at #13?
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) Wasnt Pods on the White Sox last year? Not to start the year.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) Niemi is this years 2005 Bobby Jenks, I just hope Niemi's season ends the same way. Jumping into Pierzynski's arms?
  20. Germany proposes financial transactions tax to cover bailout costs.
  21. Soxnet.net game summary.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) I thought the Sox bench was bad but the Tigers is worse. How do they win with Don Kelly playing 5 times a week.....oh wait.....Jenks is unable to put s*** hitters away.....I got a feeling this game is goig not get a lot closer. Yeah, so the typos there made it say that you've got a feeling this game is going to not get a lot closer.
  23. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) just resting his elbow or another issue? Actual inflammation.
  24. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) is Thornton available today? Why is the bullpen short? No, Thornton is not available today. Inflammation in his elbow.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) What happened?? I'm following on gameday. AJ got charged with an error when he dropped a foul popup.
