QUOTE (SHIPPS @ May 14, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) I love music more than cheese...and I love cheese. But music needs some type of creative revolution. I need it, give me something new and fresh and f***ing awesome. It really has been a long time hasn't it?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) The other interesting question is why so many other teams passed on Aroldis Chapman at $30 million? Compared to Dice-K, his raw potential would seem like a bargain in hindsight. Well, it's really good for baseball that pitchers like Strasburg and Chapman are coming up with "mid/small" market franchises or ones that are basically operated as such. Frankly, he's still going to be a rookie. He's still likely to need 2-3 seasons to develop into a major big league threat. Even Verlander put up a bad 3rd season in the bigs. Factor in the injury risk of a lanky guy throwing 100+, and there's reason why you wouldn't go that. The Daisuke money was insane anyway...but there's a lot more opportunity right now to recoup some of that expenditure by marketing your team in Japan than there is in Cuba.

Some commentary on last night. You wanna really know the reason Mike Brown is going to be fired? Not because of his performance last night, this series, etc. He's going to lose his job because he, along with everyone else in Cleveland, have coddled James too much. Yeah, he's the best player in the league. But he's also no where near as good as he could be. He's sloppy at times, over-reliant on his athleticism, and has shown no interest in developing a down-low post game, where he ought to be just as dominant as he is outside with that 270 lb frame combined with his quickness. He ought to be able to get 2 quick fouls on Pierce driving into the lane where he's too fast for Pierce, then go down low and pick up 2 more quick fouls shooting over Garnett in a game like that. He really hasn't had anyone pushing him to be the best in Cleveland. They've spent all their time trying to make him happy that they haven't been willing to piss him off to make him better. He also really needs a second option who can generate their own shot. Those 9 turnovers come from everyone knowing that he's starting off with the ball.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ May 14, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) I hope Kotsay is in the lineup tonight. He's 5 for 34 .147 lifetime against Meche. Maybe his average will actually go up. That's much better than his current .133. He'll have to be if Jones is still hurting.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 13, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) It's all about the protecting children! What kind of job are they gonna get with an ethnic studies degree anyway? They just stopping them before they become a greater burden on their parents and society in general. It's all about protecting the children! (That's what the liberals scream for every thing they do, right?) (also, this post should be in half-green text) Maude Flanders was a liberal?

Who would you most like to go after?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Problem with that is, that leaves some holes - assuming you are a seller, and if PK goes away after this season, you have a serious problem at 1B/DH. Need bats. That's why I wanted Kila, but it looks like he's not going to be available. I agree with your approach on pitching, and certain positions where we have guys solid for a few years (like 2B, SS and CF), and positions where we have good prospects close to ready (3B, C). But some positions (1B, DH, maybe OF), we will need guys in the very short term. But...the counter point is...1b we MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY also have someone if he keeps hitting like this, and hell, if we fire sale it then I'd expect we see what the kid can do in the bigs. Ditto on at least 1 OF slot. And...frankly, no matter how dumb our manager or GM are...Dh is a position you can fill for

QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) I think they are better together than DJ and Hawk were together. Absolutely. And Stoney is about as good of a match as you can find for Hawk as well. (Of course, he's the best color man in baseball, so he's probably a good match for most people, but the ability to understand Hawk's obscure 1960's Red Sox lineup references helps a lot).

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Thanks. Standard BS i guess It could be more than that, and frankly there's probably something to it with how it's been linked and written...but there's a long way to go. He could be 99% sure that he's going to Chicago today, then the Cavs could win their next 10 straight or the Bulls could decide "You know who looks like a great coach? Vinny Del Negro. And he even has playoff experience!"

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) They might want to let LeBron finish the playoffs first before all this talk. They are acting like the Celtics already won the series. For all we know, this will go back to Cleveland in the next couple of days. You know who else might well be sick of all the talk being about "What happened to James, where is James going to wind up?" The Celtics.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Like I said earlier, many would argue Deron passed up CP3 this season. I actually would put Deron slightly ahead of Paul (that probably will change next season though as CP3 will do his thing) but as of today, yes I think Deron is the best PG in the NBA. I'd agree that CP3 was passed by Williams this season, although that could change next season, which is why I pointed out that I thought CP3 as the #3 player in the league was a bit odd and started up this whole threadjacking.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I believe he's allowed to serve his 50 game suspension while injured (which is a joke, but that's the rules) so that's not an issue. The earliest you could see him back in the majors is around the trade deadline, but odds are it might take longer than that. I'd be willing to bet you'll see him sometime in August if his rehab goes well and the Reds are anything resembling in the race. So, in other words, yes, it's possible. The Reds have some reinforcement arms on the way then. Even if they just stick Volquez in the bullpen at the end of the year. They stay close early, and that could get interesting.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) The hot Reds moved within 1/2 game of the ice cold Cardinals today, and the two teams have a 3 game series this weekend in Cincinnati. I know I say it every year, but one of these days the Reds are going to put it together for a full season and be in the race all the way through September. Is there any chance of a Volquez sighting this year?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Apparently Tom Paciorek will be doing color along side Ed Farmer for the KC series filling in for DJ. So you'll have Hawk and the Big Hurt on TV with Farmio and Wimpy on the radio. What a bizarre weekend of White Sox broadcasts.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) So Wade would have to be at the bottom of your list. But how would you go about calculating your list? Chris Paul averaged 75 games a season coming into this season, and still played over half his teams games this season while dealing with his torn middle finger. Athletes like Lebron, Wade, Howard, Kobe etc would seem to be more likely to blow something out. Chris Bosh is the only guy I have heard rumored to have a degenerative condition, but who knows if that's a NBA GM inspired rumor or not. Yeah, I'd say that Wade's style of play is worrisome and you have to knock him down a bit if you expect him to start missing 10 games a season in the near future, solely because he hits the floor hard so often. I don't think I'd hold it against someone that they're an athlete. Aside from Livingston, can you give me a few examples of injuries that happened because of an overly athletic style of play? Kobe starts dropping down now not just because of his production but because he's starting to miss more games or not be 100% for more games. Guys that have virtually zero injury history as of now though, I'd say you bump them up a few points based on that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 13, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I'll give him the benefit of the doubt given how injured he was this year. It's easy to forget how much of a stud someone is based on two games (see the idiotic Lebron stuff going on right now), let alone over the course of an injury-riddled season. Well, I also would include "likelihood of missing an entire season due to injury" in my thinking in those rankings.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) After I wrote what I did before, I got to thinking that Longoria's the only other true contender I believe for the MVP. And when the Twins beat out the Tigers for the AL Central, one of the M's will jump over Cabrera as well. And when the Sox beat out the Twins and Konerko hits his 50th, his name goes in the conversation too.
