  1. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Here's a question...why do people call it "pro-abortion?" It's pro-choice. Big difference. Many people are for a woman's right to choose, but wouldn't choose to do it themselves if put in that situation. That has always bothered me. It's framing. The "pro-life" side uses the same thing, because who wouldn't want to be pro-life? Life is usually a good thing. Choice is too. I don't want to be anti-life. I don't want to be anti-choice.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) On the bright side, that should stunt some global warming if it ends up being impressive enough. Not likely from that type of eruption. The only way it's going to affect the climate is if it belches out a ton of sulfur to the atmosphere. Which...if it happens...you wind up worrying more about the acid rain than you do about the short-term 1-2 year cooling.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Agreed though he "could had been." It's sad when people are already writing off Blake Griffin after one season of not playing., You just can't do that yet. But he's a clipper. I wrote him off the moment they won the lottery, for crying out loud.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) So that volcano in Iceland is really causing a lot of problems for northern Europe. You essentially can't fly in or out of the UK or Scandinavia right now. "Or something called volcano monitoring..."
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Maybe we will sign J Dye or J Crede? I dunno, Charlotte's roster is fairly strong this year already
  6. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Chances were like a million to juan that something like that would happen, though. But no, it's not exactly out of the question to steal on an LHP. I think that Perez just made me nervous. Hey dun, I missed the game last night because I was watching the Bulls, but I see that Andruw Jones was a triple short of the cycle? What in the hell is going on? I just thought that he was somewhat rejuvenated, but this s*** is getting out of hand. I'm still not gonna pick him up in my fantasy leagues, though. Don't get too excited just yet. His OPS last year on May 1 was 1.304.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Then what do the other years have to do with it? Just that Beckham hitting only .270 as a rookie doesn't mean he can't grow into a guy who can hit .350+.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) So what year were you talking about there? This year?
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) And when Carlos Quentin gets angry... HE GETS EVEN!!!! And bats get flipped.
  10. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Speaking of lineups, who'd a thunk last night's lineup would produce 11 runs? Carlos Quentin heard your doubts when you saw the lineup card. Those doubts made Carlos Quentin angry.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) Cavs in 6 I'd take that.
  12. This was the first snowless March in Minnesota in 125 years of record keeping.
  13. Anything you can do Jorge Cantu better has set an MLB record by recording a hit and an RBI in his first 9 games this season.
  14. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) There are arguments for some, but none would be mentioned with the Connie Mack's or the Leo Durocher's of baseball. Torre and LaRussa and Cox?
  15. Let's look at the Type B free agent OF/DH types from last year for comparison. Randy Winn, who put up a .671 OPS last year Xavier Nady (missed all of last year) Garret Anderson (.705 OPS last year) Marlon Byrd Mike Cameron Brian Giles Vlad Guerrero
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) extending him after 2 good games is really shortsighted. Of course...if he were to stay healthy and you extended him after 2 games...then it could look really, really farsighted.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Why does Ozzie insist on always talking about getting fired? I find this annoying. Maybe it's ego or something? I think Ozzie knows this is one way that he can keep the press focused on him rather than on the team.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) He got us a run in the first game of the season, but after that? Of course you must get on base first in order to utilize that speed right? Even when he's gotten to 1b...we've bunted him over in situations where a SB would be useful, or if he has stolen 2b, there hasn't been any hitting to follow it up. We also haven't seen him actually look like he's distracting any pitchers while at 1b. Or really putting pressure on the defense to make a quick throw to 1b on a ground ball, leading to errors or anything.
  19. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) Agreed. It's way too early to say, but you have to wonder if KW isn't already looking to extend him. I have a feeling it won't be easy considering his agent. He'd make a nice DH next season. One can always hope that if he keeps this up he'll play his way into being a type B free agent.
  20. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) I was and still am surprised at the lack of support for Pierre. He's not the ideal lead-off guy, but he is a career .300 hitter, and he's got speed. So far I haven't seen Pierre's speed really affect or change any games.
  21. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) Just a tiny bit of sarcasm on my part... Well, ya got me.
  22. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) He probably never should have been traded from Orlando, if it wasn't for a hockey executive who became the GM of the Magic for a few months. He probably never should have signed in Orlando.
  23. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) Terrific post. I agree entirely. And I disagree quite significantly.
