QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) How can you possibly have any idea that the Sox wouldn't have the ability to re-sign Gonzalez a year and a half from now? You don't know that because you don't know what the economic climate will be then and you don't know the resources that may become available to them over the next two seasons. "Attendance depends on winning" right? It's likely a player like him would help them win, which would give them more payroll flexibility. Ranger, I think we can make some pretty educated guesses based on where salary has been over the past few years, the number and value of contracts that we'll be holding that year, and typical arbitration values for guys that we have like Quentin and Danks. Of course things are going to change based on deals, but the whole point is that we don't want to have to make deals that make us worse in order to afford his salary, like Detroit is having to do, because that defeats the whole purpose.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) How does that work, financially? Basically, you're required to move Hinrich somehow to do it. Either sending him to Utah while signing Boozer or sending Hinrich somewhere else while a different return moves to Utah. It could also work if the best offer Boozer gets is the MLE, which the Bulls will be able to offer fully on top of any max deal they offer to Wade. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Hollinger is saying Hinrich won't be moved and Chicago radio is reporting that Del Negro was lobbying for the Bulls to keep Hinrich. This is why I said earlier that the Bulls weren't going to move Hinrich. As far as I can tell, they've been able to move his contract and turn him into expirings for at least the last couple years, and they want a legitimate return if they're going to move him instead, which they're not getting with his contract. -

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I have no idea who will want to play for the Knicks. That team has nothing. I don't see David Lee coming back to the team, all that is left is Chandler and Galinari. Only superstar that can put that team in contention is LeBron. The Knicks still have D'Antoni who still seems like a respected coach, and they have the NY Media market, which is going to be worth more than any other in endorsements. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) I dont see how any player could think playing in NY at this point would be better in the long run than going to Chicago at this point. Play with Lee, Chandler, and Gallinari, or play with Rose, Noah, Taj, Deng. Rose alone tips the scales if you ask me, and it isnt as if Chicago is a ghost town when it comes to supporting the team, if any of the big 3 come to Chicago we are talking a rocking United Center all the time. Isn't Lee an unrestricted Free Agent this offseason? -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) And the Bulls will be fine if they move Hinrich. It is very easy to orchestrate a small move if you are only in need of a few mill. We're talking about the difference between $22 million and $18 million there. That's not an easy thing to do, when you look at it. You couldn't come up with that difference by moving Taj and Gibson, for example. If we're starting with a roster of: Deng Rose Noah Gibson Johnson That's $22.8 million. A $54 million cap and you can still only offer 1 max deal, you'd need at least $2 million more. The only guys that you could move to clear that much space are Deng, Rose, or Noah. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Bulls now have 16 guys on the roster. I got a feeling one more big move is left or at least Chicago hopes there is and it will likely be a mega effort to move Hinrich and others for Tracy McGrady. Can't the Bulls just drop Richard without serious loss since he's only on a 10 day contract? Unless they expect a higher cap number than I do, I think the only way that happens is if they can turn Deng into expirings, and I keep getting the impression they don't want to move him as they think he's a solid 3rd scoring option and reasonably good FA bait. -
How do I cure the fact that I'm not feeling well? Drink more and the hangover goes away.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) Think Tyrus goes scorched earth on the way out? In terms of bashing the team? Yes. Does it make any long term difference or will it involve anything we didn't already believe about how poorly that franchise has been handled the last 4-5 years? No. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) The fact that regulatory limits on Tritum in drinking water exist show that small amounts, in fact, cannot kill a person...otherwise the limit would be 0. Or, that the decision making process has been politicized and affected by the demands of industry and is not 100% based on the best science.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) Very solid, it's pretty clear that Tyrus just has to go and that's really not bad value. Can never have too many 1st rounders regardless of what year it is (and it definitely won't be this year). I'd be kinda surprised if Charlotte was willing to give up a pick that wasn't this year's. They're in position for a playoff spot this year, 2 games ahead of Milwaukee for the 8th spot, probably in no small part because of the coaching job done by Larry Brown. The odds of them being in the lottery next year, IMO, are probably higher than this year. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) How about when I finish it with "nuclear fission creates the byproduct tritium at a rate of 0.01%"? That's a useless number if you don't have a scale to compare it to. 0.01% could be a lot if it only takes 0.000001% to kill you. I can attach a scale. For example, the Vermont Yankee power plant I cited a few pages ago shows tritium concentrations near the plant of 70,500 picocuries per liter, 3.5 times the EPA's current allowable standard. A 2005 NSF study concluded "The scientific research base shows that there is no threshold of exposure below which low levels of ionizing radiation can be demonstrated to be harmless or beneficial."

Hypothetically, if Hinrich were moved and the Bulls did not take back any contracts that extend into next season, that would leave the Bulls with 5 players under contract for next year and a Q.O. on Thomas unless he's also dealt. The total salary commit for the Bulls next year would be 22.86 million. If the Cap winds up at $56 million and the Bulls have no draft holds, they could afford to offer 2 max deals to FA's. If the cap is lower, the Bulls could offer 1 Max deal and then one deal somewhere above the MLE up to about $10 million depending on the number of draft holds, or they could use that extra space in a large sign and trade deal. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) If Hinrich and Thomas are off this roster by 2pm today I will cry tears of happy. At least Tyrus is gone regardless, so Hinrich at least. I won't believe the Bulls are actually going to trade Hinrich until I actually see him in another team's uniform. -
If it wasn't for the tax cuts in the stimulus, I'm pretty sure I'd be paying a bit higher of an effective tax rate than this.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Science can't prove or disprove how life was created so it doesn't even try to touch the topic, and also "science" isn't just some repository of facts, it's a method used to reach conclusions based on observable data, like people have already mentioned. Origin of life science is something of an odd topic, because we're highly unlikely to ever stumble in the fossil record upon the exact location and setup that gave rise to the first cells. Thus, sometimes people are sort of coming up with ideas for ways in which it could have happened, and if they test something, they're testing small portions of the sequence rather than the whole thing. But I woul,dn't say "it doesn't even try to touch the topic", I'd say it's something we're working on, and there have been some exciting ideas appearing in the last 10 years or so.
