Soldier Field to be blown up.......

They could have just had a spaceship land on top of...oh. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) I dont see where he is indicating the Sox should trade Quentin for Hamilton. The question is, why would the Rangers trade a guy who has already shown the talent behind the potential, and is cheap, and is under team control for a while? It makes no sense, Hamilton would only be available for a good haul, and I dont think the Sox would want to give up that haul. I'd rather have Q than H.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) This whole sham of a DH search is for the Sox to bring back Thome cheap. I'd still have absolutely no problem with that at all.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Tigers fans are thrilled that he's gone. I haven't really seen much negative about him stats-wise except being wild and walking too many guys. In other words...he's the kind of guy who Coop could be succesful with by taking a couple MPH off in exchange for control

So, either yesterday or a couple days ago (I've lost track of time) Senator Ben Nelson gave an interview railing against all the key points of the health care bill, like every bit of it. Today he's voting for it.
-
We need to do something about that.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) That's a pretty generic statement. Can you actually point out some positives of the Senate bill? Expands coverage by 30+ million people, bans insurance companies from rejecting people for pre-existing conditions, establishes some cost-control measures (Although the most effective cost control options were stripped out), possibly sets the stage for better cost control measures in the future.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) If it had nothing to do with money, but most importantly JOBS, this would have been done decades ago. Yeah, because if there's one thing that's been proven again and again over the last year, our government cares vastly more about jobs than about the money in the pockets of its contributors.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) So.....give us a day to watch out for. When a lot of earthquakes start happening there.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) It should not. Fiscal policy should not be decided by the Federal Reserve Bank. That is pretty clearly supposed to be a constitutional function of Congress. For example, right now, an increased inflation rate would possibly leave to a cut in the trade deficit and additional job growth. That is something that the Fed can affect. But they're going solely after inflation, which is why we're discussing this.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Silva was torched in a pitchers park with great defense.....imagine what will happen to him in Wrigley. The NL is bad but notthat bad. After the guys we saw turn it around in the NL last year (Contreras, Penny) I'm not so sure they're not that bad.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Nix should have Vizquel's role. I'm beginning to think that Vizquel was a complete waste of money and will be a waste of roster space. If you want somebody to coach Alexei, bring him to Spring Training as an instructor. My problem with that idea is...Nix appeared to be awful at defense from the left side of the diamond when he was used there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) No. I am arguing it shouldn't be the Fed's primary goal. They manage the banking sector. Their primary focus is to maintain the integrity of the banking system and the money supply. Their job is not fiscal policy. The very idea that it is comes from the complete failure of Congress and the President in those areas. The Feds goal also explicitly includes maintaining employment.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) That's hilarious... Silva, who is owed $24 million over the next two years, posted an 8.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 30 innings this past season and a 6.46 ERA in 153 1/3 innings the year before. They just need to pitch him against the White Sox.

Silva replaces Harden then?

Freddy Garcia vs. Daniel Hudson vs. other options
Balta1701 replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unless he's injured, Garcia starts the season in the 5th slot and gets at least a month. He pitched well enough down the stretch to earn that, and he keeps going as long as he's not being regularly shelled. Hudson might be better as a starter next year, but there's no reason to rush him into the role, esp. if it can buy us another year before he hits FA by keeping him in the minors for the first 2 months of the year and at the same time he benefits from pitching in AAA for a while. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) They brought Beckett outta the 'pen on 2 days rest in game 7 of the NLCS. That was a risky/desperation move that worked out. Not the same as what the Yankees were able to get away with due to excessive off days. True, not the same thing, but Beckett also pitched the clincher in the WS on 3 days rest too IIRC. If I were the Yankees I might have done Captain Cheeseburger on 3 days rest for the whole postseason even if every series went the max.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Considering one is a function of money supply and the other isn't, I'd still consider them doing their "job". Unemployment and job creation are results of fiscal policy, which are not supposed to be charges of the banking system. So you're actually arguing that monetary policy has little impact on job creation? I'm not sure I really even feel the need to argue this, especially with the current trade deficit and liquidity trap conditions.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Does the bill expand Medicaid eligiblity? And if it does, how will states pay for it? And how can the Feds pay for it and have it remain deficit neutral? Repeat after me:..... Unfunded Mandate!! Because the feds have also added 2 taxes; a tax on cadillac health care plans (which is one possibly very solid means of creating a financial incentive for cost control) and returning to the Clinton era tax rates on the top tax bracket. Can't say exactly how large each is because we currently don't know.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Which is exactly why we have no chance at a guy like this. That seems to be the exact opposite of what I was saying.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Well SP depth will be a lot more important come October now that they're going to have less off days during the playoffs. This past postseason was absolutely ridiculous. You're not going to be able to get away with 3-man rotations or being able to have your top pitcher go 3 times in a series if need be. Depends on the pitcher. Didn't the Marlins wind up doing something similar with Beckett back in 03 before it really spread out?
-
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:23 AM) MLBTR says it's a one year deal worth around $5.5 million. If true, that's a friggin' steal for a guy that can get on base as much as Johnson can. He doesnt' get on base much if he's hurt. That's the big issue.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) Blalock can still actually play defense. He is going to be out of our price range for sure. Just because a guy is worth some dollar amount doesn't mean there are going to be teams willing to spend it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) So you are advocating that the Fed do the Congress's job? Interesting. Considering that they've decided to ignore 1/2 of their job and focus solely on inflation while ignoring unemployment, they must have some spare time.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) I don't understand those who think adding Chris Bosh will make the Bulls a championship contender. No way. They need Wade or LeBron. I agree with you, Rose then Noah and maybe Deng are keepers. Everyone else is roster filler. I think the Bulls organization should send personal apology letters to all their ticketholders. Because Bosh, Deng, Noah, Rose, and Gordon at SG is probably a legit championship contending lineup.
