QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Matt Taibbi does a great job of summarizing why I am very disappointed in Obama (focuses on the financial side of things). The Errors of Matt Taibbi

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Too bad there isn't an option included in the deal though for 2011. If he pitches well enough that we'd want him back, we can offer him arbitration and hopefully steal some picks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Depending on the actual verbiage of the law, the House may have written a law that does exactly nothing (this particular part of it). I'll lay you solid odds that you're exactly right, and that a bank lobbyist made sure of it.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) This really shouldn't be the precursor to any other move, he can't be counted on to give you anything in 2010. That's a lot of money if they think they can't count on him for 2010.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) bring him in kenny, give em De Aza and Morel De Aza is not a prospect and no one would be interested in him in a trade. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure he's untradeable until June 1.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) This would be a major indication that they are cash strapped right now. Why in the world would you do the Getz/Teahen trade if it also cost you Carrasco because of money?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) I'm hoping he starts in AAA this year. Play a year in AAA and than maybe be a late season call up if needed. I could see him starting off in AA again this year also, depending on how he looks in ST. He really didn't perform well in BHam last summer, but some of that was injury related.

Just what we need, more bullpen problems.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) Well, I don't care about all that other garbage -- but if it's going to cost that much more just because you're married, something is wrong there. So, you're then in favor of an overhaul of the current system, as it forces people fairly regularly to get divorced so that Medicaid will pay for the treatment needed by an uninsured/underinsured family member?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) This is the problem with Linebrink. We only get halves. He is paid in full IF he could replicate his 2008 1st half...he's possibly tradeable at the deadline.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) I agree, they appear to be tarketing guys that can bookend with thornton for the set up role outside of Linebrinks balky arm. I bet they are shopping him the best they can as well. This is KW. He's shopping everyone, we know that. There's just no one who's going to have any interest in Linebrink after last season.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Probably my favorite cartoon ever. Obviously one of the top ones. Hoping they can somehow get their act together for another season on Comedy Central.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) Probably the same idiots who claim that the 2001 recession was Bush's fault. I really wasn't looking to defend CBPP in this thread, but really, this post is so sad that it makes me want to.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) We dont need this guy-a trade just to say he did something by Williams-if he was good the Yanks would not be making moves to keep him off the field You do realize this is the Yankees we're talking about right? They're the one team that isn't satisfied with a good player at every position; they can afford an all star at every position and they try to do that.

DH is just easier to fill than OF, even if it's a below average OF. DH, you can plug guys like Thome, Branyan, Johnson in there. You just wouldn't put Q at DH to put Matsui in the OF on an everyday basis.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) The White Sox offense wasn't good enough with Pods hitting over .300. Making Gardner the leadoff guy just weakens the White Sox offense. A nice bench player is what he is, but if KW gives up something good to get him, I think he's crazy. Our offense wasn't good enough last year with Pods hitting over .300 because we got very little out of 3b for 3 months, RF for 3 months, had no Quentin for 3 months, got nothing from SS for 2 months, CF for 2 months, and were breaking in a rookie 2b who struggled for 2 months.

The Tiger Woods Marriage Saga Thread
Balta1701 replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'd consider sleeping with Tiger if I thought it'd help me get my hands on a couple million dollars. -
Poster put out by the Senate Dems today showing press releases from the future Majority Leader's office.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) He's really only worth a minor league deal. He's going to be 30 next year, has never had a good season (and I'm not going to say his 105 ERA+ was good last season considering his WHIP was about 1.60), and has never really shown good peripherals. He's like Mike MacDougal, but worse. Matt Thornton was a 29 year old with a career 1.68 WHIP in the big leagues at the end of 2005. His minor league walks were equally bad. Doesn't garantee that he's fixable of course. Just sayin'. -
Tigers, Cubs, Royals, Giants Join Sox As Teams Interested in Pods

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) The Cubs interest is questionable. Do they really want this guy to play CF? The same people put Soriano and Fukudome out there. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Source? Also, while I agree in general that much of this is not Obama's fault at all, I think its a bit much to put the recession on Bush. I think the blame for the current defiticts can be spread around to a lot of people. He doesn't directly link them but there's a citation at the top; the center on budget and policy priorities, which I'd define as a liberal think tank.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Here's an interesting article talking about how the Bulls should scratch 2010 plans and focus on 2011: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bu...at-530am-a.html Trouble is...every year you're letting someone walk for nothing, you're wasting time and potentially hurting your cap situation. TT for example is this year's FA: if someone offers him something over the MLE, which could certainly happen if he puts up decent numbers after coming back, what do you do? Do you match say a 3/$24 offer on him or do you let him walk? If you match that offer on him, then you're looking at having Deng, Hinrich and Thomas still as your key guys under contract in 2011. Then, in 2011, Noah's in the same boat. Then, in 2012...Rose. If you can pull off the "Moving Deng Miracle" or the same one for Hinrich, then all bets are off. But this dithering (And Mr. former Vice President, the word is accurate here) is a key part of how we're where we are now. We're not interested in committing to Gordon, or stepping up and making the huge move to commit on a star, or making the big offer on a coach...we're just sort of treading water, and thinking about 2011 seems like trying to tread water for longer and hoping no one throws in a brick.
