  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) I've never had a problem with my AT&T Internet service. Even stay on when the power goes out. They've now missed 3 of their own deadlines to turn my service on.
  2. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:44 AM) Its a political grenade, and once they pull the pin it'll be a game of hot potato to see who gets caught with the thing once it goes off. A lot of people are going to erroneously call it a cheap trick that skirts our principles. It can't be worse than the result this bill is going to wind up with. (Politically speaking, it's going to leave the Dems 100% unmotivated and beaten and the Republicans still 100% motivated because Obama's going to kill grandma). And the insurance industry's dollars aren't going to start flowing to Dems enough to make up for it.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) lol, clutch. You saw my earlier Facebook status obviously. The Republicans oppose your facebook Statii.
  4. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Joe Lieberman, you are the devil. How they can't do the reconciliation option at this point, I just don't know.
  5. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) i was thinking this today. So, basically, it looks like President Lieberman is going to get a bill that will fine everyone $2000+ a year if they don't buy health insurance, but at the same time counts on insurance companies to control costs on their own and be nice to everyone. Oh, and they've put back in the possibility of lifetime benefit caps. And I'm sure they're going to have to cut back on the subsidies to get the numbers under the $900 billion mark, since either a Medicare buy-in or a public option would save money. It seems like they're even going to drop the requirement that the "Medical loss ratio" move back to 90%, from the numbers below 80% right now (That's the %age of insurance company revenue actually spent on medical care) And I'm sure no one can see where this could go wrong.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) You are always late! Xanthippe
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) This is not dead. If the administration is smart, they know 100% that failing to pass a health care bill destroys them in next year's elections. Eventually, they will do whatever it takes to get a bill through. It may be such a bad (aka Lieberman authored) bill so as to just make everything worse, but they'll get something passed.
  8. Christ almighty. If you're considering AT&T for home phone service or internet service, look elsewhere. My God.
  9. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) He was pretty good last season and the Brewers need a dependable arm in their rotation because Manny Parra is not ready to step up. Wolf actually has a lot of value to them, and that's why they can justify the contract. He's a decent #2 starter in the NL, and that's where he'll be in Milwaukee (behind Gallardo). Fangraphs had him worth $13.6mil last season and projects his 2010 to be worth $13mil. Maybe the Brewers got a slight bargain? I doubt it, though. I think he'll hover around .500 with a 4.00 ERA just as he has his whole career. If Wolf can do what he did last year for the next 3 then yeah that's a bargain...but the odds of it don't strike me as high.
  10. Makes sense, pretty fair value, now they just need him to not miss 1 month every season.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Lee always carries the fear that he can't repeat his success. Except he's now done it 2 years in a row.
  12. Maybe you're the one being pretentious, honored elder.
  13. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Pray tell. What is it? I'm clueless. Obviously, it's that you should hit the refresh button before posting
  14. Melky Cabrera could be a defensive upgrade, but with Rios already out there, it'd be at best a small upgrade in CF and a decent upgrade in RF. However...the impact of a solid upgrade in RF defense is going to be minimal. What this team really needs is bats, esp. bats that fit a certain profile, either LH power or a high OBP/leadoff type hitter to balance things out. Cabrera...career .331 OBP, will hit probably about 10 home runs, put up an OPS somewhere around .725-750. He's just not a very good fit for our current needs. There are potentially better options on the trade market, and if Crisp is healthy, he's a similar player off the FA market that we wouldn't have to give up talent to trade for, and who might fill the leadoff role slightly better.
  15. Perhaps we should take bets about how long this thread runs.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) I don't remember anyone doing it with any real spirit in my lifetime. Roosevelt and Taft were your lifetime right?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I remember way back when this was called Trust-busting... I remember way-back when a Republican actually did some of that.
  18. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Korn is not the same as Corn. I like Corn. Just because you're not metal enough
  19. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) My concern before I think about moving Jenks is asking if Putz is actually going to be ready on opening day to fill the role, and if that's not possible, how quickly he will be back. I've seen people saying that he'll be ready but others says he hasn't even tried to throw yet. I know we have some time before the season starts but if we do deal Jenks and it turns out Putz is never going to get his 98 mph sauce back and/or won't be ready for months into the season, then what happens? His prognosis when he had the surgery was something like 8-12 weeks (see post earlier in this thread). If he's not ready to pitch right now then this signing shouldn't have been made.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) As great as D.J. is in his role, his role isn't very important considering we have 4 very effective starters. Frankly, it'd be really nice if you were right, but you're not.
