  1. On the other hand...don't we all.
  2. That plate belongs to Morgan Stanley Vice-Chairman Rob Kindler.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Even if we do get that big bat, we still need all those things you mentioned to happen to be an above average offense. With our starting pitching...esp. if we can put a decent defense behind them, we shouldn't need an above average offense. We should need an adequate offense.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) Jinxing it isn't possible. We WILL get ours. We always do. Killer weather the last time El Nino came through, IIRC. 1998 was the year where there was almost no snow the whole time...until late March. Then...the blizzard of 98.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Well, I'm sure some sort of effort went into deciding whether we could still play third. He used to play third (it's been a while though), he's solid with the glove at second, and the Phillies are familiar with him, so I'd believe he could hang at third defensively. But will his bat hold up at 3B over the length of the contract? Over the next 3 years, they've got what, Howard and Utley for at least the next 2, JRoll for probably the same amount, Werth is probably arb-eligible, Lee for the next year, Hamels for a couple more, I don't think they really need a strong bat at 3b with the kind of production they're getting at 1b and 2b.
  6. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) If $35-$36M is what Figgins ends up getting. What does this mean for Beltre? What should he expect? Beltre ought to get 1/2 that.
  7. God, I'm gone for a week and already you're setting up the Lou Dobbs jokes for me.
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) You cannot create jobs with a "public" (aka government) mindset. Period. And right now, without mention to political affiliation, that's where our country has been focused. (Bangs head against wall). Maybe I ought to go resume moving. Or drinking. Or something.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) CNN had a report on green jobs. They begrudgingly admitted that over 70% of 'green jobs' created have been overseas and that there is no way that trend will end with the current status quo. So 30% of the world's green jobs are coming in a country with 2% of the world's population and 25% of the world' GDP? That's absolutely fantastic. That would mean we've caught up from the huge deficit the last administration left us with in less than a year.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2009/...attens-out.html I'm as pessimistic as anyone about the long-term prospects since the stimulus was too small, but saying "oh it's just a surge in temporary hiring" is moronic. Temporary hiring increases tend to presage long-term hiring at the end of a recession because companies don't want to commit to long-term hiring until they're certain the recession is ending.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) haha not really. count in the Obama job growth and deficit. quick! delete the data! Ok, so you're saying there's no correlation, and hence y'all are just ranting for no reason?
  12. El Nino tends to make everything a bit weird.
  13. What makes them think Polanco could play 3b?
  14. Last time Seattle went out and tried to build up quick by buying 2 of the top free agents on the market, they wound up with Sexson and Beltre.
  15. Wow. The government recently gave law enforcement the legal right to access cell phone GPS trackers to learn the location of people using them. One company, Sprint...serviced 8 million requests for that data in 1 year.
  16. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. Sunday morning is when the movers are supposed to arrive, and the roads just might be blah.
  17. Can someone demonstrate any correlation between that metric and economic performance? Hell, the Bush Admin. shows a ton of private sector experience and virtually zero job growth, that almost argues for a negative correlation.
  18. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/04/a...s_n_380130.html Don't worry. Those people will just get health insurance elsewhere. I'm sure the other insurers will be thrilled to insure them.
  19. You'd be surprised. I might get my first snow in like 6 years tonight.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) Which is why the GOP got thrown out in 2006 - they spent themselves into oblivion. And that just got dwarfed by this Congress. You really, truly think that the problem in 2006 was that the Congress spent too much? And not that they followed Bush blindly into a disastrous war? Or blew out candles on birthday cakes while a city drowned? Or had the median wage stagnate while only the top tax bracket saw any growth for nearly a decade? Frankly, no.
  21. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) So how soon is Jenks dealt? Christmas or before.
