  1. I think I'd like to have post 40,000 appear here. Yay.
  2. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) There are few finer men than Derrick Brooks who have played pro football in the last two decades, but does he have anything left? A player with his pedigree, his class, his humility, his character, his leadership is currently out of work...the only reason a team would not have him on their roster by now is he just can't do it anymore. I hate that, because DB is one of my all time favorite non Bear players, and would love to see him help this team. I just don't know if he can (at least on the field). If Lacher is out, then isn't it really worth the gamble?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 01:11 AM) Bah, the man still led the army in defeating the British. And of course the story of John Adams isn't going to go into great detail on what the man did right, but rather where he differed from Adams and such. You don't have to be great at everything to be a great man. Just get the most important thing right.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Gotta love taking the bat out of the hands of the guy who is one of the top 20 power hitters in the AL yet letting Rios bat. Good thing this game doesn't really matter. Huh?
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) What's so frustrating is look at other teams and the new players they acquired at the deadline, many sure don't have a problem contributing to their ball clubs. Like Washburn. Man, he's saved the Tigers.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) There were a lot of flags yesterday into this morning flown at half staff. Later in the day when people checked that flag was suddenly at full staff. Anyway...a typical football stadium is what, 60-70,000? If you emptied all of a football stadium in to one street as a march, and then allowed people to spread out enough to hold signs, how would it look? Wouldn't that fill up a street? Maybe they're off by some amount, maybe the march had 100,000 but it's probably not an order of magnitude. And anyway, 100,000 turned out for a rally that seems to have no specific motivation (we don't like Obama! doesn't count) isn't exactly shabby.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Well that and quit coming up with stimulus plans for the Japanese and Korean economies... So you're saying we should cut back on the tax cuts, which consumers use to purchase goods from whatever, and put more in to developing native industries and green technology? OK.
  8. QUOTE (beck72 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) The White sox sure seemed able to predict that Chris Young might have difficulty hitting in the bigs. Or they wouldn't have traded him. Looks like the sox were correct, as the D-backs are stuck with Young on a really bad deal. And yet the Sox kept Brian Anderson...
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) anyone know where i can watch games online, down in carbondale im stuck seeing the rams/seahawks on tv. Justintv.com for the Giants/Redskins game here. You can probably find other games there if you browse around.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) You'd figure that a slumping player would seek out his coach for advice, or at least be more willing to listen. Sometimes these things do take time, right?
  11. That may be the first time I've ever seen a guy miss a punt block because he ran too far past the punter before the kick.l
  12. Supposedly the DC Police have released an estimate of 60,000-70,000 people.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Michigan could be better than Ohio State this year. Right now, SC would disagree.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Won't you be pissed when Verlander takes it because his team wins. Furious, quite frankly. Really, that will piss me off.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I guess it all depends on whether the Sox are still in it after this week. If the Sox fall flat against Detroit in the first couple, then go ahead and give Torres or Hudson a start or two. Peavy can have a start or two also, but with like na 80 pitch limit, just so that he gets the feel of it a bit again before the end of the season.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) I don't know if they'd want guys to pitch on 5 days rest or not. Seems to me that you'd be less sharp than you'd be on 4 days rest. I'm sure there's data on this but I have no problem, at the end of a season, with going with a 6 man rotation for 2 weeks. 5 days rest is just the equivalent of an extra offday strewn in there.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) They'll go where the jobs are at. And better health care coverage.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) it's a sign that, even if the economy has a slight recovery, it won't be sustainable as the trade deficit will just balloon again. it's not a good sign for long term viability. There are 2 things that are going to be required for the trade deficit to go down. First, stop using oil. Second, there needs to be a reorganization of the global currency system; eventually China and other places in the developing world are going to no longer be able to prop up the dollar as a method of stimulating their own economies. When that happens, the value of the dollar will fall some relative to those currencies and that will be a huge boost to U.S. manufacturing.
  19. All depends on his health. He's healthy and he's going to be a monster. We saw that the first 2 weeks of the season before his foot started bothering him. He single-handedly destroyed the Rays in a series.
  20. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I'm betting if the Sox lose Rios on waivers or trade him for a Swisher-esque package, the same people that are currently giving him a free pass will talk about how smart KW is to get such a heavy asset and non-contributor off the books. So, let's say that Rios is traded for a Swisher-esque package. Doesn't that mean that KW acquired a guy for nothing, spent a little bit of money to give him a tryout, then moved him along and turned him in to a couple average prospects? In other words, he would have turned a couple million dollars in to additional system/bullpen depth. That's not the worst move I've ever heard.
  21. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) That's what I didn't like. He's already proven he's the greatest player, I see no need to bring himself down to take shots at anyone. And I see no need to lecture him about the kind of person he ought to be.
  22. Reading this and wondering if we'll ever see Shipps alive again.
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) It's likely going to be a wash on donations. There has been a front page Druge ad for Wilson and the GOP is reporting he will go over $1,000,000 in recent contributions. Top that off with his insurance industry bribes, I don't think he will be at a fund raising disadvantage for elections next year. It's worth thinking about this though...last election, the guy won in the same matchup wiht 53% of the vote. But this money bomb for both sides has totally reshaped where it was compared to last year; last time the Dem was outspent by something like a factor of 5. Now it's suddenly a lot closer to even, at the worst.
