  1. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA. (Laughter aimed at deleted post)
  2. Last person you'd expect to beat us...or to be batting 3rd for that matter.
  3. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) flowers swing seems pretty long He's not in the big leagues for his bunting ability.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Is Paulie close to 30 home runs? That would be cool if he could blast 30 this year. his HR today was his 26th on the season.
  5. Does Texas's compensation pick for not signing #14 this year sit as pick 14 or 15?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Performance during meaningless games in September mean crap. I wouldn't mind him starting if it means giving other guys breaks, but as an audition for 2010, it would be a mistake. ANd yet, on more than a few occasions, giving a guy a chance to struggle or shine in September winds up being a positive thing for his development.
  7. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Who do we start next week? I'd be surprised if Torres starts again. If we're out of the race more officially by that point, why not give Torres another few shots? Worst that happens is we lose another game. Big deal.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Regardless, he's not been very good the past 3 years. 2007, .852 OPS, 122 OPS+ 2008, .798 OPS, 111 OPS+ 2009, yeah, he's been awful, especially with us. But even in 2008 he was an above-average performer with the bat. 2007 he was a deserving all star. by OPS+ 2007 was the best season of his career.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Podsednik is an adventure waiting to happen any time he reaches 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd base. I prefer baseball players who don't have to go on an adventure. I have no problem with it being an adventure as long as the results are good. The 26/36 in steals and tons of other pickoffs and outs on the base paths is what I don't like. It's like an adventure where the dragon eats you at the end.
  10. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) guillen gives Pierzynski his blessing to charge Tomko if Tomko hits him on purpose http://twitter.com/MDGonzales Oz said if AJ gets hit by Tomko the team has his back. http://twitter.com/cst_sox If that actually happens, Oz just guaranteed a suspension.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Haha, someone didn't show up tonight. This might be the worst start we've seen all year. Really?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Wow, Torres looks absolutely awful out there. Let's hope he's nowhere near the plans for the #5 spot next year. Replace the word Torres with the word Floyd and I'll bet you've written this post before.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Gameday has him at 86-88. There went one at 92 now.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Maybe it's just the camera, but it looks like Torres is throwing 60 mph fastballs. Gameday has him at 86-88.
  15. Leadoff walk from Torres = very bad sign to me.
  16. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) So are you saying he was playing injured during the 5 seasons that he played poorly, and was healthy the 3 seasons he played well? Basically, yeah.
  17. Zesty is one word I'd use to describe it.
  18. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) I'll buy into the theory that Nick Johnson could get 400+ ABs if he were relegated to a DH role. We're talking a .900 OPS if this guy could somehow manage to stay healthy, and there's no question that he'll come cheap given his history of injuries. Sounds like a f***ing plan, and then some. Assuming he doesn't go down this month, he'll have had 450+ at bats this year in the NL.
  19. I think my issue with Podsednik is that an OF of Podsednik, Rios, Quentin might not be up to snuff offensively, given Pods's lack of slugging ability for a corner OF. Of course, that depends on what we do to fill the DH slot next year too, and whether or not we're ready to legitimately put Getz at leadoff next season (he's certainly played well enough to hit there in the 2nd half this year). If you bring Pods back cheap but then invest in bringing in some LH Power at the DH position, that's perhaps tolerable if Q and Rios both play to form.
  20. There was an incident last weekend where the NATO force in Afghanistan bombed a fuel truck that the Taliban had stolen, and at the same time wound up killing like 80 civilians who were taking fuel from the truck after it had gotten stuck. That debacle has already had international implications. The strike was ordered by a German commander, and Germany is facing an election in a few weeks. That country's Afghanistan policy has now become an issue in that campaign, although the opposition has yet to call for anything resembling a full pullout or reshaping of policy.
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) IIRC, a $1M option for next year with another $1M in incentives. Up to $ 2million in incentives based on innings pitched.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Dye will call off Kotsay and misjudge the ball. No Rios....wow......this is not good for the next four years of that contract. Kotsay has replaced Thome is the musical chairs rotation. We knew Ozzie was going to struggle to get PT for everyone when Rios was acquired, and frankly, Rios right now hasn't really earned PT. Kotsay's been ok the last few games, so if Ozzie's still trying to win games, going with the hot hand isn't a bad move. Rios needs to hit better if he's going to play right now. Next year, he ought to be penciled in to CF, but right now, the dude's just not hitting
