I wonder if the team can fine him for any of this.

Maybe it wouldnt hurt to keep Freddy Garcia around after all...

QUOTE (beck72 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) That's a big reason to keep him in the bullpen for next year. Esp. if he doesn't have a lot to work on pitch-wise in AAA. Hudson could really solidify the bullpen next year. Also, Carrasco could move up from long man to set up, with Torres eating innings as long man. If Torres doesn't make the team as a starter out of ST, I think I might rather see him in the minors to get in work. Hell, if he has a good season at AAA and makes a few starts like he did against the Cubs if Garcia needs a break then he might get traded for Adrian Gonzalez. -
Ohio State won a game.

Fields was on fire in ST. Fields struggled in 2008 after Crede came back, but no small part of that was because he was on some bad knees that he had cleaned up in the offseason. Quentin struggled in ST but he was also coming back from that wrist injury last year, and he started the season absolutely killing the ball before this foot thing took over.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Felix would be a pipe dream, esp. after the prospects it took to land Peavy. To go back to the main point, though, if Freddy continues throwing well, he'd be a good 5th starter for the sox. Then the Sox could have Hudson as the next SP the sox would turn to [though Hudson should be in the sox bullpen to start 2010 if he throws like he did on Fri, night.] You know, I typically am the guy who doesn't like to see our starters moved to the bullpen to ease them in, but I'd really have no problem at all with freddy starting the season in teh 5 slot and Hudson starting the season in the bullpen. Hudson's innings probably should be kept under control next year, so the bullpen works there, and it seems like he's at the level where there's not much left for him to work on in the minors other than learning how to get big league players out. Hudson to the pen next year I'm ok with. -
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) i've been impressed by getzy lately Even before today, he's hitting .321 with an .816 OPS in the 2nd half and is 7/8 steals there.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) guys, this season ain't over...all we need to do is shave 2 or 3 games by the time we play the tigers 6 times in 9 games,it could be done Don't neglect the Twinkies either.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Last year he hit .291, ops of 778. So its only been this year hes been really struggling. The other number to look at for a player in Toronto is OPS+, since that's a major pitcher's park. His OPS+ was above 120 for 06 and 07, his OPS+ was 110 last year, and this year it's below 100 (100 being an average player). The trend line is troublesome, but typically players don't hit their peak at 25-26 years old and then decline rapidly without some sort of chemical enhancement.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Cmon Gavin; cmon Oz, play Kotsay again. Cmon Kotsay if you do play, do some more damage. Check and check.

And there it goes. Canceling postgame show, giving standing O.
-
Let loose Erstad and Hafner too but you dont' hear me complaining.

58 pitches for G through 5.

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) True, you're right. But I'd still rather have him over Thome because of his age, better production and for the change. It's looking like the Nats want some quality young pitching though, so that might take him out depending on what they want. Gotta remember, the worst that the Nats would get if Dunn flat out walked as a FA is 2 draft picks. You've got to beat that in value significantly if you expect them to trade him

Did AJ just attempt a straight steal?
-
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Sure, my "exact logic", that you just pulled out of your ass. I didn't say I wanted these "World Series heroes" to take Jim's place, I said he wasn't a fit on our team. With his high strikeout rate per at bat, and his continued non-ablility to come through in the clutch(besides of sourse 163), it's time for a change. Also I'm a big believer in just changing things up when they don't go your way. Different personalities in the clubhouse, different mindset, whatever. You have a problem with his high strikeout rate and you suggested Adam Dunn as an option?
-
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) I must be in the minority to be thanking the lord Thome is gone. The lefties I'd rather take his spot next year: Adam Dunn, Abreu, Matsui. I'd even rather gamble that Delgado will be able to stay healthy. I think KW is thinking much the same. It hasn't worked with Jim, so why keep doing it. Using your exact logic...how many of those guys have W.S. titles, or hell, even playoff runs, over the last couple years?

Didn't even realize the game had started and G was already through the 1st.

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Yeah but I was mainly talking about the like 3 other guards they took after that.. Didn't they draft one and trade him to Denver as Billups's backup? -

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) They are dumb for drafting all those guards anyways. The more I think about it, it's actually an interesting gamble in a number of ways. What's the Bust odds on a #5/#6 pick at that level, first of all? 50%? They've got 2 shots. Second, by Rubio staying over there, they draft him, but save money and cap space on him while he develops. They get the chance for both PG's to play and develop. If Flynn busts, then they can bring Rubio over. If Flynn is solid, then they have a very useful trade chip in his rights. Since this wasn't exactly a strong draft, I'm not sure it's that big of a hurt given all the ways things could work out. -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Why be political, man? Gee whiz. Because no one's making up an enemies list of Democrats right now. We've got the NSA on our side and we're the ones compiling the lists for once. The stuff we've got on you...for example...and that little trip you took a few years ago...

Took too long and there's still some sort of national security loophole, but credit where credit is due.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) As far as I can tell, Kotsay and Castro are also free agents. Flowers ought to be up in the bigs anyway.
