QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Wow. I have heard some stupid things before, but that takes the cake. Peavy is crap? If there winds up being serious elbow problems with him...then yeah.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) Wow, I'd imagine that has to be among the worst in baseball in that timespan (although a lot of new teams have been added since 1965, but you get my point). 4 guys who were average or better? That doesn't seem terrible to me. That seems about average.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Best possession receiver of all time. All he does is catch touchdowns.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) It's simple and we'll see if it gets done after the recess. It's called reconciliation. That only requires 51 votes and most of the public option bill can be passed with that legislative tool. Actually, the reconciliation process here would be no where near simple. You can use reconciliation for some things effectively, like the Bush Tax cuts, because those are explicit budgetary matters. You can use reconciliation for at least a portion of this bill because money for it did appear in the Obama budget. But you're going to have an absolute devil of a time under Senate rules trying to find a way to fit in the structure of the public option, new rules for insurance companies, the setup of the panels for Medicare, etc., things that aren't explicitly budgetary items.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) I'm assuming that webcam shows some sort of view but is just obscured by all the smoke? I've got some friends in various regions of California and they all say the air is so smokey and they're not even close to the fires. Kind of crazy, those forest fires are always just a news blurb that don't mean much to me but then I realize that a lot of people are actually affected by them every year. So basically, after last night, I know what it feels like to be a delicious rack of barbeque ribs. For now that cam is just showing smoke. But there's likely to be a serious battle to keep the fire from that equipment later today.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) I guess it's definition of prospect. If a guy projects as a tweener, he isn't much of a prospect is he? Also, I think you are talking about Chris Carter of the A's, not the Red Sox. He did a darn fine job with the majority of "The X-Files" TV series though.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Might have saved my boy Dex from bein dealt with a bit less asked for in the offseason, (though that could irrelevant too) but Heads is right. Were set for next year especially considering Contreras and others will probably be gone. Think of it as signing Peavy in the offseason to a nice contract. Hudson will also save some pain as well, especially for Richard who many here liked. Worth noting...Richard's ERA in S.D. is 5.22 since the trade. It's also possible he could have spent the rest of the season in Chicago doing his best Contreras impression and had his value go down too. I think Dex was struggling with the Pads a bit too.

Congrats White Sox on reaching 100 errors already

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Our #1 priority over the offseason should be an above-average defensive RF, preferably with a lefty bat if we can find one. This will keep Rios in CF and will really help our OF D as a whole. After that, I'd like to pick up another lefty in the pen and possibly a lead-off hitter if we can fit one in. We won't need a ton of work though and I don't think we're as far away from being a title contender as our play this season would seem to indicate. After looking through the 2010 free agents, I'm genuinely convinced the player you're asking for doesn't exist. Or at least not without a trade. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) In the 3 innings I watched today, it was neat to hear Hawk and Stone rip our defense. They said it sucked, which it obviously does. Horrible defensive team. Bad baserunning team, though some of that is on Cox, who makes bad decisions. Why don't they move Harold to 3B coach next year?? Because you actually have to receive input from your 3rd base coach, and that doesn't work if he doesn't speak or move.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) Do you think we might see Viciedo for 3B though? After all he is paid a lot of money to sign with us. Anyway, I am almost (not quite thouhg) ready to write this team off. I have hung in there for quite awhile but reality hits you hard. If we lose tomorow and then the Twins series I guess we are probably done. Today was about as bad as it gets Viciedo is flat out not ready yet. -

QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) AT this point I'm hoping for 3rd place and mm m to get the best pick possible next years draft. An interesting note...right now, we're tied with the Twins for wins but we've lost 2 more games...we'd be sitting at slot 14 right now. There's a big difference between slot 15 and slot 16 if there's any chance that you're going to target a type A free agent in the offseason.

Really interesting to see how much starting pitching the Rays have traded away over the past year. Just on paper, it's difficult to turn that in to a winning strategy.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Calling players out is a lot different than permanently benching or DFAing them with a month to go in the season. But since you've obviously never managed another human being in a work environment before, I wouldn't expect you to know the difference. It may not be showing up on your computer, but that text was green.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) there were better options, and the game was being forfeit. I wonder if we'll look back on this game as the one where the season pretty much ended. Who was the better option today? Carrasco is the only one that comes to mind for me. And I still like him better out of the pen.

QUOTE (soxbsbllvr @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Yep, sucky game to watch. yet no one has anwered my question- who do you bring up 9/1 at this point Fields (Beckham needs some time off), Wise (we're nothing without a starting CF), Flowers (legit catcher of future has earned promotion), and probably a couple of the relief pitchers (Link, Nunez). I wouldn't be angry if we tried giving Torres another start or two this season if he can convince the coaches he deserves it. -
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Maybe so. I haven't totally given up on him yet either. Just don't wanna watch him probably struggle in September amd strike out fifty times. Rather see some new faces. Not bringing up Morel and we clearly need to give Beckham some time off, so who else is there to play 3b?
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Kids! Yeah, absolutely right. Bring 'em up and let 'em play. It's the only thing left to get at all excited about this season. And I don't mean Lillibridge or Fields. Seen enough of them. Let Fields play. I'm not beaten on him yet. Someone's going to turn him in to a hitter at some point.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) I'm assuming I saw Allen play the most of anyone on Soxtalk. I never like seeing prospects traded away, but in this case, it was a bad, bad deal. It is going to backfire on the White Sox. I didn't like seeing Chris Young traded, but I knew his attitude and work ethic wasn't great and that might cost him in the long run. Brandon Allen's upside is unknown, and that may hurt the White Sox in the future. Don't forget about Chris Carter either. The Chris Carter trade comparison here is very interesting, because at least to me, it's all about what we got back. In that deal, we got a talented (but hurt) guy who filled a clear need for us and who had a high ceiling. We gave up a guy a lot of teams wanted but we stole someone back. I think we gave up a talented guy here who a lot of teams would want. I just have yet to be sold on the return. I know how I valued Allen when we gave him up, and it was higher than I valued Pena based on his numbers coming back. That's what bothers me...but the one thing that could change that is some legit pitching from Pena.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) You're both right, IMO. I agree.

Just bring up the kids. It's that time of year.
