With the exception of RBI's, every one of Dayan's numbers went the wrong way in August (1 day left in the month but I'm out of town on the morrow). Lower average, OPS, 0 HR, more K's, only 3 BB's. August G 22 AB 86 R 11 H 23 2B 4 3B 0 HR 0 RBI 20 BB 3 SO 17 SB 0 CS 0 AVG 0.267 OBP 0.297 SLG 0.314 OPS 0.611 Those numbers are especially disappointing considering how much of a roll he was on at the end of July. Maybe he's getting a bit worn down from the season? No idea how long a Cuban season is.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Stimulus money? There's more ads out there supporting health INSURANCE reform then against it. Just ask ABC and NBC, who won't air ads critical of our emperor, Barackus the Great. If you really follow the money trail, there's a crap load of money coming from the "let's "reform(sic)"" crowd. And if you really dug deep, some of this is taxpayer money, I'd bet. Kind of like advertising on Craigslist to become an SEIU hack to show up for town halls. Money, indeed. The health care industry doesn't have to spend its money running ads. They just buy Congresspeople.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) The fact that he would spend 11 mil or whatever for Rios and not pony up for a guy like Hudson to have the entire year both confuses and infuriates me. Would you have given up Jared Mitchell for him as well? Would you trade Mitchell for 1 year of Hudson straight up?

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) He's trying to say that KW didn't create magic blinders and trick the Yankees in the Swish deal. Honestly, I'm fairly satisfied with the Braves/Javy trade. And especially after we saw what happened to the OF market last offseason, just dumping Swisher's salary was a win. If nothing else, I'm much happier having Rios than Swisher at this point, and it's going to take a Swisher-level of failure next season to convince me otherwise.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Kenny Williams set the tone by trading Nick Swisher and Javy Vazquez for zero contributors to the 2009 big league team. Oh come on, really? That's your explanation for this? The Swisher and Vazquez trades? Would we be legitimately better if we hadn't dealt those 2 guys?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Anybody think the Rays will decline Crawford's $10M option? Not after they just cleared salary (Kazmir). You want him, you need to offer something significantly better than the 2 draft picks and full season of performance that they'd get from Crawford by keeping him.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Bay/Holliday won't be happening most likely. Yeah, Boston is likely going to overpay to keep Bay (Why shouldn't they?) and Holliday is going to be a highest bidder kind of guy, but I don't think moving him back to the AL is intelligent at all.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Rex, you want to make the government all cheer-IO, and it's not. The Democrats, just like mr genius said, control the whole shooting match. If they can't get it done, they can't get it done, because THE PEOPLE don't want it. Pelosi's puppies (aka, the Blue Dog Democrats) are running scared because they know the people don't want this s***. Then you've got Schmucky out there saying, fine, reconciliation it is. It's their only hope of passing this thing. If you Democrats want this so bad, accept the piece of s*** for what it is and do it. Just remember your backsides during election day. It's really impressive how you wrote that whole thing without alluding at all to which side the money is on.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) They must have took it down or it's getting too much traffic. It's still loading for me but the reloading fails a lot, you have to reload it on your onw.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) and they have a SS who is playing 3B that can put up an .850 OPS But he's also been surprisingly good at 3b, and we don't have another option at 3b without spending money. If you can trade Alexei for a king's ransom, say a top of the rotation type starter (Buchholz?) then either spend the money on Figgins or go with some mix of Fields and whatever else we can dredge up...maybe you consider it, but only if you think you're better with a hole at 3b and the guy you're getting back for Trading Alexei.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) While I don't disagree that moving Konerko would be hard, I don't get the sense that they are committed to Ramirez. I think they're frustrated with Alexei on D, but I don't think they're foolish enough to underestimate what they have. He's a middle infielder, SS or 2b at worst, who can hit .300 and give 15-20 home runs and an .750+ OPS each year who's under our control for at least 4 more years with good speed. That's a ridiculously valuable piece in a trade. You're moving him you ought to get back an ace starting pitcher or a top of the league OF bat or something like that.

So what happens when we host an election next door to Iran and the results wind up looking a lot like what happened in Iran? What do we do? Whether it was officially "Stolen" or not I can't say, but there are reports that the violence/threats of violence in some provinces kept turnout there at 10% or below. Those failures would be counted under international standards as leading to an illegitimate election on their own.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) I'm assuming that webcam shows some sort of view but is just obscured by all the smoke? I've got some friends in various regions of California and they all say the air is so smokey and they're not even close to the fires. Kind of crazy, those forest fires are always just a news blurb that don't mean much to me but then I realize that a lot of people are actually affected by them every year. Check that image now. The fire is right there.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) I have no problem with that at all. ST might be interesting next year. If Garcia can be adequate the rest of the year, I have no objections to that option at all. Worst case, he's a couple month bridge to Hudson. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) That's the problem of us not developing a CF of our own or not picking one up the last few winters, the CF crop this winter sucks if i remember correctly (I think Mike Cameron is the best guy). But just because of that doesn't mean you make a move like picking up Rios. Perhaps the orgainzation thought Rios was the best option, but if that is your best option, all things considered, you have done an awful job at that position. Yes, we have done an awful job at that position. But that's how baseball works...sometimes your guy at a position or two fails. The ideal result would be...you have a guy or two who fail, but you also have a good number of guys (let's say Beckham, Quentin, Danks, Floyd, maybe Ramirez, Getz, Flowers) who succeed and are cheap. Thus, you look at the spots where people failed and you use your money to fix those spots. That's exactly what we did with Rios. And it didn't cost us a draft pick. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) I still like the Peavy move. And WSF1986, no I don't want to see Pods in CF next year, but I also don't want to see Rios for 11 million dollars out there for the next several. Who would you rather see out there and for what price? -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) The Rios move was a TERRIBLE move. Both are TBD. Rios needs a season as the actual starting CF before I call anything on that, he could easily return to the player he was in Toronto. And I want to know what Peavy's condition is for the next couple years, let alone right now, before I call on that. -
The NYT today included some details of all the obscure rules governing reconciliation. You know, the Senate really is a mess.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Yeah, and watch what will happen next season -- there will be a few key injuries, a few players expected to be good who will have down years, and then there will be more excuses. We'll go into 2010 with high expectations, sure, but I'm not entirely confident in the roster even knowing full well that Williams can add/subtract a few parts in the offseason. There probably won't be anything drastic. When has KW not done a fairly drastic overhaul in the offseason? -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) 6 back. A week ago, we were like what? 2.5 games back? Crazy. Detroit stank for long enough to give us a chance to make a move. We went the wrong way. Not much else to say. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I think the whole reason the Sox traded Brandon Allen is that Viciedo is bad at 3rd and will be playing 1st. Viciedo's going to need some major improvement with the bat next year before we even consider him an option for 2011. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Perry played only 200 games, and Eric Soderholm as your 3rd best 3rd basemen in a span of almost half a century? That's not good at all. The fact that I don't know who he is doesn't suddenly make a 114 OPS+ a bad thing.
