  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) I can't think of a worse choice to lead off than Nix. .333 OBP, .815 OPS against LHP.
  2. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) sweet our hottest hitter in the 9 hole, and Q in the 8 hole with a guy who strikes out every bat leading off. Way to go... Alexei's our hottest hitter?
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Being sarcastic Balta? Could be.
  4. Awesome job by our pitching and defense tonight.
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) OMFG DJ CARRASCO IS SO f***ING GOOD OMFG OMFG I'M SO GLAD HE'S IN THE GAME Come on man...DJ's bailed us out so many times already this season, we'd be in 4th place without his work.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) His replacement today is ex Sox OF Mike Huff I so read that as "Sex Ox OF Mike Huff"
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Monday, think at midnight or noon or something The deadline is midnight EST.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Any word on the other teams signing their top picks such as Strausburg? Heyman on the #1.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) from the DH spot? yes.
  10. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Mike Huff I have no idea why he is the color guy. Minor and forgettable career. Some relation to the Sox organization? Played for the Sox from 91-93/
  11. Who is Oakland's long man? I get the feeling we're going to be seeing him in this game.
  12. Looks from Gameday like Q just missed that one?
  13. Torn Labrum found during surgery on Bedard. Done for the year, gonna be a rough offseason for him. Could be a buy low candidate for someone, but shoulder surgeries are really ugh.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) Stoney said this morning on Sportsrise that the Cubs have 49 games left in this season, and they only play 12 against teams that are over .500 now. Expect them in the playoffs. I really don't think they're catching the Cardinals.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Wagner won't make it through waivers. There's teams in the NL that need bullpen help. Most of us are guessing he probably already cleared, maybe 2 weeks ago. No one would have claimed him before seeing him pitch a few times.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) I feel like Ozzie is RickRolling us with Pods at DH. You know, if we're giving Thome a day off anyway, I don't really mind this.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) If its most like Flowers is a huge upgrade over .280 with 15 homers, they might as well start making his bust for Cooperstown. If Flowers sticks as a catcher, and that is still a big if, catching will take its toll on him. I remember when the White Sox couldn't wait to get rid of Carlton Fisk behind the plate. First Joel Skinner, who was pretty highly thought of, although IIRC, didn't do too much in the minors, the Karkovice a #1 pick who had a huge season in Birmingham as a 22 year old. I wouldn't be surprised if his season in Birmingham was better than what Flowers did this year. Carlton Fisk's career behind the plate lasted 20 years before the Sox started cutting back on his AB's. If Flowers catches for the Sox for 20 years, yeah, it'll take its toll on him.
  18. Fairly short and excellent callout editorial from the Washington Post on the End of life issues demagoguery.
  19. New data: income inequality (the earnings of the top .01%) hit an all time high in 2007, surpassing the 1929 mark. Full paper is available at link.
