  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) kicking some yankee ass - take THAT sportscenter! Don't call it yet...it's a long series.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) now sober up My friend Jim says no.
  3. Until we see how Buchholz, Porcello, Hughes develop, on paper it's us. those guys could each develop in to legit 1-2 starters, and give those teams an advantage. But then...we have Hudson on the way, and money to spend still.
  4. Guys, I've been off drinkin'...has the thing in LF looked as good at the plate as his stat line indicates?
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) How? He can't pitch til September. Who are we gonna trot out there in Richard's place? It doesn't help us if he can't pitch can it? We may struggle to fill those slots. KW says 3 starts. 1 is tonight and we're currently winning this game 6-5 (thanks God!). We can call up Torres to cover a few of those. He was real good last outing; we'll see on the rest. If we can survive those couple weeks; you don't want to be the team facing Peavy, Buerhle, Danks, Floyd in the postseason.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/p...-real-this-time To read the write-up here of Dexter Carter, you'd think he was the second coming of Dwight Gooden. He has been really, really good this season. But he's been really good in A ball. And Hudson has been better and in AA. It hurts to give him up. But the return is Buehrle, Peavy, Floyd, Danks, Hudson, in some order. That's worth giving up a really good A ball pitcher, a possible Matt Thornton, and a late bloomer LHP starter
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) I can't read all 30 pages, but I'll skim 'em later. What's been our fan board consensus? Please summarize for me. I guess Clayton and Poreda aren't that highly thought of by our people. I sort of liked what I saw from Clayton and all we heard about in the offseasons was Poreda. I'll hope for the best. Little confusing he won't be ready until September and now we have no Clayton to start games. Don't see how that helps us this year. The general consensus is: the Sox gave up a good package but nothing right now you'd scream "Why"? We held our best 2 OF prospects, our best 3b prospect, our best SP prospect (Hudson), our best C Prospect, Beckham, and everyone else from our big league team. In return, we got a guy signed to a non-terrible contract who has been a legit ace the past few seasons. The way Richard is pitching it hurts to give him up, but if Peavy can give us anything in August, that offsets it. Russel was giving us nothing. Carter is a legit prospect, but he's in A ball, our rotation is set for years to come, and Hudson is still our best SP prospect if we need someone to fill the #5 spot next year. Some people legitimately question how Peavy will do under pressure or in the Al or outside of Petco or in a pennant race. To that, we can only say; we'll see.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) do we have anyone who can pitch if DJ can't go more than 1 or 2?? Swisher?
  9. By the way everyone, let's keep the personal attacks in this thread down, please.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) I'm doubting we could get him to Chicago and ready to go quite this quick. Torres has also been down less than 10 days. i don't think they can call him up that quickly except in the case of a DL stint.
  11. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) hasnt testing gotten more strict? True, but HGH is still out there.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) I'll f***ing take Kotch. Clearly yeah, but still, huh? Maybe they think they can put him on the Ortiz plan?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) You guys are giving me the strong impression that it's only a matter of time before KW deals away a pitcher or two from those levels. Bam.
  14. He won't last long. They probably called him up just because he's already on the 40 man and thus they don't need to use an option up for anyone.
  15. Mitre vs. Carrasco. Now there's a pitching matchup for the ages.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Lillibridge promoted over Fields. . .ouch. Was Fields not in AAA long enough to be recalled? No, Fields could only have been recalled for an injury.
  17. Does anyone know if we were required to pick up Peavy's option year?
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) I think Hudson is up late next year or the year after that. Hudson could have a shot to make the rotation out of ST next year.
  19. QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Anyone hear if the Padres are eating salary? There is a strong rumor that they are. We have no idea how much. Hell, we didn't know how much they were eating exactly with the Thome or Vazquez deals either.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) So....There goes some of the money we have after this season. I think this may mean the departure of Thome for sure. We still have like $20 million coming off the books even after this move.
  21. So that we'd have the money to trade for Peavy.
