  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) I don't think this is going to be a temporary move. Williams is a guy Ozzie will have more faith in and we'll see him used as the lefty specialist. Better than sending Richard to the pen the way he's pitching now.
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Here's an angle that a lot of people probably haven't thought of, and I have over the last week or so, anal accountant that I am. How much reserves have to be kept to pay out insurance claims? That is another HUGE reason they want their hands on this, is because there's a lot of real money tied up for "reinsurance" and the government wants it in their coffers. Hello, William Buffet, Obama supporter. You don't think he's going to get a huge chunk of this deal? Why? Where's the money...? Point 1...the government clearly needs to restore its insurance reserve coffers anyway. It just bailed out the largest insurer in the world. Point 2...who is William Buffet?
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Why the arbitrary date? In Metric time, that's exactly 10^5 units from now.
  4. Google the phrase "Price is right tickets". The first page to come up is the Price is right ticketing page.
  5. Great move by the Pirates. Confusing gambit by Seattle.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) Sounds like Jeff Clement to Cleveland. For who?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) That deadline was nonsense. If Boston wants him, they'll get him. Especially if they are offering Bucholz and other top spects like Masterson or Bowden... Boston isn't offering Buchholz. They'd be stupid to do so, quite frankly.
  8. QUOTE (Pods70Rowand33 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) What is your research on? What do you plan to do when you you're finished? I'm hoping to go to grad school in the fall of 2010. I'll be finished with my undergrad in May of 2010. I melt rocks for a living. I hopefully have a couple post-doc opportunities set up looking at meteorites/mars/asteroids.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Why would they cry poultry?
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) of course. And the price for Bedard SHOULD have been less than both of them IMO. But that is what Ricciardi is using as his base, so hopefully Lee will show him he will get nothing if he keeps asking for the moon If you believe his deadline yesterday, he is getting nothing for him this year. And anyway, I seriously doubt he could possibly get a better offer than the ones that have been thrown around, including the nearly official one of everything but Drabek from the Phils.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) And watch Lee reset the market for an ace. The price for Lee is going to be lower than the price that the Jays are asking for Halladay.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Ricciardi watching his options dwindle He shot for the moon and won't get anything if Lee is the one to move.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) "You'll have choices for your health care". Lie. (at least not like today). Because the Republican and Centrist position is you should not have a government choice in health care and the highly concentrated highly profitable near local monopolies currently in the system are the best way to go. Competition sucks and is anti-capitalist.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) Why isnt Becks an All-Star at 3B? 300 avg close to .400 OBP with developing power and a plus glove. Who cares if he is ACTUALLY elected to the game as long as he plays at an All Star level. Because quite simply, there are likely always going to be people putting up numbers as good or better than him. Longoria and ARod are the top of my list; if b*^&( T*%s stays healthy he's probably going to be on pace for 40 home runs and he's a Yankee. Then there's Longoria. Then there's Michael Young, who has a shot to be leading the league in hitting every year. And it's not like this is a position where no one is coming along who can challenge him either: Moustakas in K.C., Brett Wallace in Oakland if he sticks there, Dayan Viciedo in Chicago if his power develops. Beckham's numbers just aren't going to be eye-popping at 3b. They will be solid, but at 2b, he's an MVP candidate.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) That pretty much says it all. You could even change Option B to "good defender" and the choice would still be a no-brainer. There's no question in my mind that Ozzie has a personal vendetta against Anderson. Unfortunately for Josh, he can't play defense and has to compete with a future All Star at 3B. So dealing him makes sense. Beckham is probably not going to be an allstar at 3rd base. To start off, ARod, Young, and Longoria are there for a long time, and then every year it seems like there's more than a few guys who step up and put up near .900 OPS's there. He'll need to be legitimately hitting .330+ and putting up 30+ HR a year before he's an all star there. Especially with Longoria's glove. Beckham at 2b is an all star right now. The only 2b with a higher OPS than him is Zobrist.
  16. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) Brian Anderson will hang around for his athleticism and may turn into a Ryan Ludwick, who knows. Teams are not really looking to pick up a guy that has failed elsewhere. They aren't? Most teams are thrilled to pick up guys to try out in AAA even if they just have a 1% chance of reaching their potential. Hell, we've got a couple in AAA for us (JVB, for example).
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:40 AM) When I saw Fields get sent down, the thought crossed my mind to jokingly start a thread saying "Josh Fields wants to be traded" to go with the Anderson thread. I decided not to for several reasons, one of them being that I was about 80% sure Fields was actually going to do it. I'm going to start the "Aaron Poreda wants to be traded thread". I'll let you have dibs on starting the one for our 2008 1st rounder.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) I think everyone on this board knows what I think of Wise, but he is really not that bad of a defender. He isn't anything special, but his terrible defense is a myth created by Soxtalk (similar to Jerry Owens, who had a s*** arm, but great closing speed, good range, and a good glove). I think people sometimes just have an inability to see defense independently of offense. I think we were just comparing him to Anderson on D.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) If it is true, I want to see prosecutions. It's clearly not illegal to drive the price of something up to ridiculous values (see: the housing market) whether or not its worth it.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) I thought that wasn't an "error"? I think it gets counted as an error but the guy could still retire 27 consecutive.
