Good news. Let him have a couple days if he needs it.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) That really doesn't prove anything. It's still his word vs. theirs. It proves the White House wasn't making the call to punish him for the Kevin Johnson investigation.

Going back to the firing of that IG, a series of documents given to Congress have now been released publicly showing that he had a very strained working relationship with a bipartisan group of the people he was supposed to be working with and they in fact, not the white house, gave the recommendation for his removal.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) No they didn't. They offered 5 years 50 million after 06/07. Gordon declined it. Last year the offer was 6 years, 54-57 million. Each of which is less than what he got which they are now reporting could be up to 60 million over 5 years. But think about this...Gordon played for what, $5 mil a year the last 2 years? The Bulls got him at a major discount there. He could have signed his contract after 06/07, played for $10 mil a season, then been ready to hit FA again at age 29. Instead he's played for $5 mil a season, now is getting an $11 mil a year deal, and will hit FA again at age 31. He cost himself a ton of money by not signing. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Oddly enough, if there's one spot the Sox can afford an injury it's to the middle infield. Hopefully Alexei didn't break the tip of his finger, but it looks that way. I'd guess he might be gone up to a month if that's the case. I really think we can weather the storm by moving Slayer up to the 2-spot. If it's anywhere close to a DL stint for Alexei, I want Fields at 3rd and Beckham at SS.

5 different banks in Illinois have been seized by the FDIC today. 1 more in Texas, so far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) That is just awesome, as Houston just isn't very good at all. They went 16-11 in June.
-
Assuming Houston can hold a 6-1 lead in San Diego they're going to be tied with the Cubs at 3.5 games back until tonight's Cubs game.

On a different subject, Washington Post Media critic Howard Kurtz today has a classic example of a major issue in the media. He writes a column about whether African American reporters can appropriately and fairly cover the Obamas, and whether female African Americans can appropriately be critical of Michele Obama in particular. Maybe he's right, maybe they truly can't be objective because they're the same race. But what's the one question that doesn't get asked in reply? Can a white reporter fairly cover a white politician? Why of course they can, why would anyone think that's a problem! Being white and male is normal, right!?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Good thing he's batting 9th tonight... Pods 7, Nix 6, JD 9, Thome dh, PK 3, AJ 2, Beckham 5, Getz 4, BA 8. LOL, I'm going to try riding this, he's going to be my PTC. If he comes up in the 5th inning by some chance, it'll be every weird Anderson statistic all combined in 1 at bat. -

The fun things that come from small sample sizes. This season, here's anderson's batting average and OPS depending on where he hits in the order. Batting #5 0.231 0.594 Batting #6 0.25 0.603 Batting #7 0.22 0.645 Batting #8 0.160 0.460 Batting #9 0.326 0.860 -
If I was more of a jackass, I'd so be going over to TalkBears and posting a thread titled "Pace suspended 4 games for PED's". Jets LB Calvin Pace, not the one the Bears just signed.

Scheuer showed up on the Alan Colmes radio show today and Colmes asked him point blank if he thought President Obama cared about protecting this country.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Rip Hamilton makes a similar amount of money. Last I checked, you can't play 70 minutes worth of shooting guards with Stuckey and Bynum at the point. Not to mention their clusterf*** of forwards. They've basically taken the backcourt clog that forced the Bulls to constantly shift to the small lineup and adopted it as their standard procedure for next season unless they can move Hamilton. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Not exactly. I can't get a read on him. He wants to confront al-Qaida but how? I guess I have to read one of his books. If his statement on the Glenn Beck show is accurate, he wants to confront them by doubling-down on the torture regime.

Boston and Tampa Bay must be noted. Perhaps the Dodgers as well.

How many White Sox games have you been to?
Balta1701 replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Lifetime, probably 20-30 between the Cell and Old Comiskey. 2 away games. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Yeah, that'll be a book deal. Would his creditors have the right to any profits from any book deal? He owes like $170 billion.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Doesn't start? Who cares if he is going to average 35+ mins a night. I don't see your point. Minutes played> "role" The question is...what happens to their roster if they're playing him 35+ minutes a night? That guarantees they're playing a small lineup for at least 1/2 the game, to my eyes, because otherwise there's no where to get him those minutes. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) All I'm going to say is I've had it on good authority for quite a while now that this team had no interest in keeping Ben Gordon, and I still think that a person who didn't have the same info I did could have seen the writing on the wall as well (with the exception of when they took Taj Gibson over Wayne Ellington, which made no sense.) Ben Gordon was just on Silvy and Waddle in fact, and he said that the Bulls did not even offer him a contract. If that's not proof they didn't want him back, I don't know what is, and all things considered, I have a hard time blaming the Bulls for feeling that way. All things considered...would the Bulls rather have 2010 cap space or Ben Gordon plus some luxury tax payments right now or a mandate to move either Hinrich or Deng? I find it difficult to say that 2010 cap space is the wrong move, esp. the more I think about it. It still stings to lose him without even getting an extra draft pick in return though. And I can't figure out why we wouldn't draft a SG; we clearly need a backup. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) I probably didn't write the post in a propper manner, he wasn't saying it as breaking news. He was just pointing out how odd it is that a team worth 900 million dollars is getting no input from any owner other than don't add payroll. He was saying there's little to no communication about any matters Seriously, how the hell is Sam Zell a billionaire and I'm not?

What's the best seats you've ever had at the Cell?
Balta1701 replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Prior to the installation of the scout seats I've been 4th row behind home plate. -
Really, this is impressive. So, the SEC wasn't completely asleep on this case...but it just so happened that one of the people raising red flags had a manager who was married to Madoff's niece. Wow.
