  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Does Congress have the authority to pass a law putting some sort of time limit on election contesting? I think it would behoove everyone involved if in the future we could do that. I believe that the rules regarding certification of election results are constitutionally left up to the states.
  2. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Beck, but who do we offer? One of Poreda/Richard and then?? I am thinking one more prospect than was offered for Peavy. Need to look at what the Blue Jay s would need and match up wth them. But they are not in slary dumping mode yet and not in dire straits like SD. All I can say is that from what I have read Doc Halliday really is about team and wants a competitive environment and the chance for a ring more than anything a fat contract can offer. I just read a story that quotes their GM as working on offering an extension this off season so the jury is out on whether KW will even approach Toronto about Doc. But the writing is on the wall as far as the AL East is concerned. Don't see the Jays as more than 4th place finishers as long as the Yankees/BoSox have money and the Rays build their team via the farm system. Have a look: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9748020...ut-will-he-stay With Halladay's age (4 years older than Peavy) and the fact that he's only signed for 1.5 more years, you can't offer the same 4 person package you offered for Peavy. They want Richard and Poreda together I'd do that, but they're not getting beyond that. Which probably means...they're not moving him. At least not to us. I'm not moving 2 potentially solid rotation guys for a guy who's only a 1.5 year signee at age 32.
  3. This is a tough pitching matchup on paper. But we're not the same hitting team we were last time we faced Lee. Let's do this. Clayton...we need to see at least a Q.S. out of you today. You may not win it, but I want to see you lasting 6 innings and not getting beaten up. Otherwise, it may be time to give you a bullpen break.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) About f***ing time. Furthermore, according to the AP, the MN Supreme court has also ORDERED (key word) that Franken be certified the winner. That means Pawlenty would have to defy a court order or the Coleman camp would have to rapidly seek an injunction in Federal court to prevent him from being seated.
  5. Goodell leaning towards indefinite suspensions for Vick, Burress. May be willing to act on suspending Plaxico before prosecutors get their acts together.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Isnt a big problem with Villanueva the fact that he doesnt like to play with his back to the basket and use his height down low, and that he likes to stay outside and chuck 3's? Doesnt seem like a guy like that would help the bulls That's basically what VDN's offense did with Deng the first 1/2 of the season last year.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:09 AM) I dont think Teahen is a bad option at all. Its all about visibility, Teahen has been in relative obscurity for his entire career on the Royals, and DeRosa succeeded in a pretty demanding atmosphere and was generally known as the "glue" of the team. But I wouldnt say no to Teahen, not at all Would DeRosa be a type A FA after this season? I can totally see a team offering him arb. at a $5.5 million level. That'd be an easy 2 draft picks with minimal commitment. If you're right and he's a FA after 2011, then he's an arb-eligible guy on a 1 year contract, 2 arbitration seasons remaining, so his cost appears likely to go up significantly over the next 2 years.
  8. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Bucks letting Charlie Villanueva go without a contract offer.... think Gar Forman should kick the tires on him? If the Bulls could move Deng's contract, absolutely. You move Deng's contract, suddenly you have room to resign Gordon, you have Salmons at SF, but you're lacking depth there, so you grab someone like Villanueva and then now Salmons can move back and forth between SG and SF and you've got an effective 3 man rotation between those 2 positions for less than Deng currently costs. A better option of course would be for the owner to pay the Luxury Tax and Deng to return to that 22/9 form he looked like he was going to be in 2 years ago.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) Iranian Government: "Show's over, World. Everyone go back to what you were doing before this!" Iranian Government: "Thanks Michael Jackson! I was able to kidnap 9 British Embassy workers and no one noticed!"
  10. So, it seems like Danks has been gone more than 7 days so far, am I right?
  11. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Dont Forget Tim Lincecum--- 39.2 innings 3-1 1.82 era, 40 k's Gavin may not have the K's but he's been better. The only one I'd legit say has outpitched him after tonight is King Felix.
  12. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Better than danks yes, better than gavin no way. In June Verlander 2-1 2.91 era Floyd - 3-0 1.30 era Better than Danks? Seriously? Verlander: 34 IP, 2.91 ERA, 30 hits, 14 walks, 34 k's Danks: 34 IP, 2.91 ERA, 23 hits, 10 walks, 30 k's. The only difference is Danks is 2-3 in his last 5 while Verlander is 2-1. ERA's, IP, runs identical, Danks with a lower WHIP, Verlander with a couple more K's.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Has there been a better pitcher in baseball since May 22nd than Gavin Floyd? John Danks has been as close to unhittable as it gets his last 4 starts. Mark Buehrle is Mark Buehrle. I can't think of a better 3-some in the game right now than those three. Floyd has the 5th best ERA in the bigs in MLB in June, 1.56. Ahead of him are: Beckett, Fernando Nieve (yes, THE Fernando Nieve), Kevin Millwood, and King Felix, who's put up a sparkling 0.94 ERA in June. (Edit; numbers probably not updated for tonight)
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Not sure I would want to trade our DH next year. You can still sign him as a FA this offseason.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) Yep, and the 4th inning is shaping up to be tough for Gavin. Gavin Floyd says "F*** you fathom!"
  16. Really seems like we let Pavano get settled in by not finishing him off in the first 2 innings.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) He might, but I'm not sure considering his 08 year sucked. But he only had 162 AB's last year though. His numbers will be dominated by this year.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) I saw him draw a walk last night. In May: 3 walks, 23 k's. In June; 9 walks, 10 k's.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) If a team offered us a great deal for Pods, fine, but I doubt that's gonna happen, so there really is no point in trading him. If Pods keeps this up I have to imagine he winds up at least a type B guy this offseason right? Thus it actually helps us to hold on to him?
  20. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) I know its probably silly and kool-aid sipping but who are the leaders for rookie of the year in the AL. Does beckham have a shot given his propensity for driving in runs Right now Rick Porcello is sitting on about 10 wins and has been key to the Tigers being in 1st. He could fall off in the 2nd half but he's the clear front runner.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) I agree 100%. I'd rather just keep Dye and get the picks. His age and contract status makes him impossible to trade. And he's way too good to give up for just B or C prospects. You likely will not get picks for Dye. If his contract makes him impossible to trade, why would the Sox want him back next year on the same contract?
