  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) Lets just take Fields out of that equation currently, but if all goes well you'd have to peg in Allen/Flowers/Viciedo or something along those lines, cause your right, we would need to get a lefty in there. Again, all iffs, but you at least have to think there is some serious offensive potential there. Eh, I'm going to hold out hope that we can put Fields in to give us Rob Deer type numbers out of the 7 hole in the lineup and move Beckham to 2nd where I want his bat.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) I thought Tuesday. Link
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Flowers would be a very prolific 5 hole hitter. He won't hit .300, but he might very well be a .275 hitter all while playing a premium defensive spot (note, I didn't say premium defense) with massive power and a very high OBP. I'd say Flowers has a shot to be Thome light offensively (ie, from Cleveland days) from the catching position. After the top 4 in the order you really can start playing around with it, if you do it the way I'm thinking and we don't have a major bust. Flowers and Allen can both fit in there, Allen may well wind up hitting 5th long-term just because we want to get a LH batter in there to break up the righties. That'd slot Flowers/Viciedo/Fields down to 5 or 6.
  4. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) If they arent going to be able to pony up the big bucks when these two become FA, then they are going to be like the Pirates watching Bonilla and Bonds exit stage left They already extended Morneau. 6 years, $80 million.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) Its not easy to interpret this any other way really. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostasy_in_I...e_death_penalty It's interesting how much of the actual debate in that wikipedia post you ignored.
  6. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) The other question is where do you hit Beckham in the lineup? For the moment, I would put him in the bottom third to liven up that part of the order. I would also be playing Brian Anderson everyday down there, and Josh Fields. It wouldn't matter to me much where they hit. But I think in the not too distant future -- sometime this year -- the Sox would be well served to move Beckham to the #2 hole. Long term...let's say Beckham winds up a .300+, 25 HR ish type guy. In that case, an ideal top of the order in my eyes is: D2: the mighty Danks, Alexei, Beckham, Quentin. Q's power puts him as an ideal cleanup hitter, D2: the mighty Danks looks like our best shot at a legit leadoff hitter in some time, Alexei is a wonderful #2 hitter on paper (good speed, makes contract with everything, very low k's), and #3 is typically where you want your best hitter, and that should be Beckham.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 03:44 AM) I think it's just a metaphor for the future. Plus, how do you know some technology or law changes won't make it possible fopr Obama to still be president in 3000? "Election 3004...Nixon's head vs. Obama's head".
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) It won't be any different than usual to be honest. Its gone on for eight years, why would it change now that the Dems are in power. They still can't laugh at themselves, so it isn't going to change.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) If that is actually what he meant, that is really bad. That is not going to help mend relations with Islam, because the worst possible thing you can do is desert the religion. That is a cause for death to his father. Somehow I doubt that all of Islam interprets the texts that way. It's the part that does that we need to marginalize.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) Talking about the talking point pundits. There doesn't even need to be a Democrat thread, just a link to the main liberal blogs. If we're just throwing out insults, let me join in. There doesn't need to be a Republican thread either, just a posting of Glenn Beck's nightly show.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Realistically, if they don't start hitting on some of the deals soon, the team will fall to the bottom of the division. Once that happens attendence historically falls to near nothing. If they get to the point of drawing 15,000 a night like they did in the late 90's, they won't be able to afford one, or both, of those guys. New ballpark?
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:41 AM) I was referring to NSS72's assumption that Getz or Nix get dealt and Fields moves back to 3rd. Would Allen come up right away in that scenario? For a 1 day off thing or a short couple day injury, you can always move Nix/Getz/whoever remains to 3rd and put Fields at 1st. Allen comes up when Allen is ready, not to sit on the bench behind someone else.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) Hopefully they get him the no. 6 jersey soon... However, with the no. 6 jersey, you have to contend with the ghost of Charley Lau... on the other hand though, that might be a good thing, since Lau was a great hitting coach. hmmmm... But you definitely don't want 15, that's the curse of the Betemit. Gordon Beckham doesn't believe in curses. He eats them for breakfast.
  14. QUOTE (gsoxs1 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) We should all listen to Ozzie. When Wise comes up, everyone in the stands should stand up and turn their backs to the field. Eh, Anderson asked out of the game yesterday, Wise playing today is expected and tolerable. The more at bats he gets while Anderson is sick, the fewer he'll need while Anderson is healthy to prove that he should be DFA'd.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Who backs up Konerko? Short term outage - Fields. Longer term outage - Allen.
  16. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) I'm actually kinda paranoid about ordering a jersey with his first Major League number in fear it might vchange next year. I guess it's all gonna depend on what the kid says. Yeah, I wouldn't order the jersey yet either. Random question...is anyone currently running away with the ROY award in the AL?
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) Keep in mind; Matt Wieters is 3 for 21 to start his major league career. Just temper your enthusiasm a bit. I really hope he doesn't start off cold...solely because I don't want to risk giving Ozzie any excuses to Anderson him.
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) that swisher trade continues to look worse...even if he did have a horrible may...he still has a .876 ops It saved us salary and it was probably the best deal we could have gotten.
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) I'd love for him to get his feet wet at 2B while Getz is hurt. Of course, if Ozzie insists on platooning CF, I'd rather he just stuck Alexei there and Gordo at short. GORDON BECKHAM WILL NOT TAKE AT BATS AWAY FROM DEWAYNE WISE.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) The only thing I don't understand is the timing of this. Fields has been hitting much better over the last week or so. 2 days ago was the final deadline to delay arbitration for Beckham by another year.
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) right i get that. it just seems weird that after such a good week, they would demote Josh to pure backup duties. Josh Fields only lost his job because Gordon Beckham was hitting .500+ at AAA. Hopefully Josh does what he needs to do, keeps working, doesn't get the full Anderson, and next year he's right back at 3b with Beckham up the middle somewhere.
  22. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Cowley is talking about the plan is to get Fields a first baseman glove and start to work with him to backup Konerko as well as play 3rd. Hopefully they can get him a decent number of at bats and he actually puts in serious work on improving his swing.
  23. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) this is weird. we have too many guys now for not enough spots... trade looming?? Josh Fields is not being traded...you couldn't get anything for Josh Fields now that you've given his spot to Beckham. Anyone talking to you would be expecting to buy low.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Drafted: June 5, 2008 MLB Debut: June 4, 2009 Good for him. He's earned it. 1st one from that class to come anywhere close to this far right?
  25. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) Any idea if he's starting tomorrow? He will be in Chicago tomorrow according to Rongey, he will be there for the game. I can't speak to the starting lineup.
