QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) mark buerhle says hi. As does Clayton Richard.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Joe Cowley predicting a firesale coming. The problem that 95% of the people here would have with a legit firesale is that it would wind up moving guys that we like (JD, perhaps Thome, etc.) to clear room for guys that this board has declared to be no-talent hacks (Fields, Getz, Beckham, Anderson) because Fields, Getz, and Anderson simply have vastly more value to this team as developmental projects than they do in a trade.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) That's shocking to me if true. I know Poreda is a nice prospect, but I think throwing him the rotation at this point isn't going to net better results than Colon or Richard. Plus KW has always said he likes young pitchers to get their feet wet coming out of the bullpen. How has AP's offspeed stuff looked to people this season so far? We've heard repeatedly that getting better feel of his change and slider were all that was standing between him and being a really solid guy, given the speed and movement on his fastball. Is he actually ready?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Hey, remember that time when BA was hitting really well, and then Wise came back and we forced BA into a platoon that he had no business being in? Yeah, those were good times. Nobody, no where, no how could possibly have predicted that returning Anderson to the platoon role would coincide with him suddenly starting to suck again. I guarantee I never said it.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) I know, the government can always do it better. Every time this is asked of you, you can't come up with an answer. Name me what would universally be called a good entitlement government program that is ran efficiently and doesn't cost more then they originally said it would - while still maintaining all the services that are promised. Private industry ALWAYS does it better then the government - even if private industry sucks. Social Security and Medicare. And the VA health system. And everyone else's nationalized health care systems. You're obviously going to argue those points, but I'll focus on these key details. The VA health care system is essentially the best-run health care system in the country. Lowest costs, highest satisfaction in surveys. Medicare is facing the same cost explosion private industry has given us, but it does so with dramatically lower overhead costs. Social Security has a built in flaw that every so often needs to be fixed - its designed that the intial payouts increase more than the rate of inflation over time, such that it requires a certain increase in productivity to avoid issues...but it also supplies people with a guaranteed, stable retirement system with very, very low administrative costs compared to any other retirement plan out there. And every other health care system in the developed world spends something like 2/3 to 1/2 the amount ours does while producing results that are at least equal and are in many cases vastly better, while not leaving 20% of its population out in the cold.

Anderson really needs to learn to not hit the ball at very good defensive 3b. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) So, is Beckham like Anderson and Nix where they're only in the majors for their defense? Not until Wise is playing ahead of him. -

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) AJ is a f***ing tool. yeah, keep making outs on the first pitch. FFS, I am so tired of it. No one on this team is any good. It was a weak fastball right down the middle, AJ hit it hard and it happened to go right at someone. Hitting a ball hard strikes you as a poor strategy? -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I'm actually surprised teams don't try to steal more than they already do off of us. Even if our throwing out game isn't that solid, maybe that says something about our pitchers' ability to keep guys off balance at 1b. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Because he swung at a 3-0 fastball that was a perfect outside pitch. I get that...I just mean that Inge always, always kills us. I don't know how he decided to not do so right there. -

Right now, the Cell is playing like the 3rd worst hitters park in baseball according to ESPN's ballpark factor.
