QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) A blogger had the idea of a 3 way trade between the Sox, Padres and Cubs. Since Peavy would go to the Cubs, if you were KW, would you trade the same package, although if Broadway was involved, it would have to be tweaked, and get Zambrano instead? OH JESUS GOD NO.

QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) I have not laughed this hard at a thread on this site in a long time! Good Stuff and can Timo Perez play 3rd?! Dewayne Wise can. And he will.

How many Sox prospects will be in the top 100 of Baseball America?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) I'd say Viciedo won't be there (unless he really turns it on the rest of this season), Danks maybe a little lower, Allen about where you have him, but Poreda and Flowers higher. So I'd go with four. Viciedo's still barely a 20 year old who's showing promise all the way up in AA. The age alone will push him up. I had a dream that KW traded Flowers last night and I was annoyed. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 05:53 AM) I actually still like Will Ferrell, its Bear Grylls that I cannot stand at all. I could care less how many stars a comedy like that gets, they never get good ratings I think putting Will Ferrell out with Les Stroud would have been spectacular.

BECKGAME THREADHAM: CLE @ CWS, 7:11pm WCIU
Balta1701 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2009 Season in Review
I'm going to stop saying things to the pitching staff before home games and start saying them to the bats. Bats...for God's sake, the Cell plays like Coors Field, not like Petco. Act like it! -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) I didn't expected to hear this, but I trust Buddy Bell. If Buddy Bell says he's ready, and if we're not going to give Anderson a full year, then there's nothing to lose. Bring the kid up. On that one I'll reluctantly agree. If we're going to bench Anderson for someone, at least let it be D2: the mighty Danks. I could live with that. I just fear that we'll call up Danks, send down Anderson, and Danks will only wind up playing 1/3 of the games because Wise needs his at-bats.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) Yeah. But I am actually all for brining the kids up. This season is a wash. We are going to be 5 games under to 5 games over the whole year, more likely the under. This team simply is not going to put up the worst OPS in the league at home all season.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Greg Maddux from 1994 and 1995 says hi. That he does.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) This thread has nothing to do with Greg Walker. His name shows up nowhere in the initial post. It doesn't even state a clear debate, but instead merely shows us the facts. You assumed it was another Greg Walker thread because that's what you wanted it to be. Give me a break, Balta. If there's one thing you're right on, it's that yes, you should take these shots--because they're 100% warranted. It took 4 posts.

Well, it'll be hard for Orlando to win many games this series if they shoot 30% from the field. Conversely...It's going to be hard for me to believe Orlando will shoot 30% from the field again this series.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) i never really saw carlton...and id take johnson over glavine....i knew i was forgetting someone in regards to pedro....though he didnt accumulate as much as the other 3 did No, but none of them can match the 2 single seasons he put up in 99-00.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) I would say I could probably come up with a half-way decent scouting report after seeing a pitcher up close 10+ times. We need a guy in there who stresses the importance of analyzing scouting because this current plan clearly is not working. And so what happens if we have all the correct videos and scouting reports that you guys think we don't have yet still aren't hitting these guys? How do we interpret that?
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) It's no longer about what we do under him, it's about what we don't. That is, we have absolutely no approach against certain guys... say guys we've never seen before. 1-7 with an ERA in the mid 1s against first time pitchers speaks for itself. It's astonishingly bad. But then on the other hand, there are more than a few guys who we wind up having surprisngly good approaches against. Justin Verlander is the classic example; we've probably already cost him a cy young award by being the only team he's always shellacked by . That's one thing that always drives me crazy about the "Fire walker!" hysteria. Whenever we do come out and have a good plan against a guy, come out and beat on a guy who we really shouldn't be pounding, he never gets any credit.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Does Brian Anderson still look completely baffled when he sees a 3-2 curve? Why does every single young, unknown pitcher own us? Why do they look completely unaware with the pitchers stuff (even though most of them did the same thing, over and over)? As John Madden say, "90% of the game is half mental." Preparation is a huge part of the game, and Greg Walker fails at making sure his hitters are prepared. Now, if this isn't part of his job, then my bad. Here's what Ozzie actually had to say on this issue today. It certainly sounds like the materials are available for the guys.
-
QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) So if the hitting coach has nothing to do with the team's hitting.. please, explain to me why the job exists? s***s and giggles? Has Josh Fields looked better over the last week or two or not? Has Brian Anderson's swing looked significantly better this season or not? Has Getz shown improvement like he's getting over his difficulties in May as pitchers adapted to him? Has Alexei Ramirez gotten past his early season slump? If Greg Walker actually does the things people here think he does, teaching "Lift and pull" and all that crap, sure, fire him. I don't believe he does that, and I think we can back that up with a fair number of quotes from people talking about how he's helped them learn to go the other way, etc.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) I heard today that the 1993 White Sox with Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura, Tim Raines...........had been shutout 7 times at the same stage. Only one less time than the current group. Greg Walker had retired 3 years earlier. That must have been his fault.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) plaxico would be a big target for cutler...his presence opens up deep for hester as they would certainly have to roll coverage to his side...The off the field stuff is concerning, but if its a 1 year deal i think you can live with it...clearly the giants did a year and a half ago...I think the football upside of adding a guy like Plax outweights the off field downside he brings...= On the other hand, I'm not quite certain that the Giants weren't totally beaten up when they lost him last year. They looked like world-beaters, on both defense and offense, until he shot himself. After that they looked particularly ordinary on offense. Some of that was injuries, but every team they were facing had injuries too. They really lost a spark when they lost him.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) So, you're going to let this personal attack stay here and not delete it before Balta sees it? Frankly, on this one, I'm willing to take it. If they want to come after me for thinking that the immediate response to any and all bad series is "Fire Greg Walker!" regardless of anything, and I piss people off by ridiculing those threads, I'm so game. There's no analysis to saying "Fire the hitting coach!" any time something weird happens in someone's statistics. Does it suck we're getting shut out, yes. Why is it happening? The first-time seeing a starter thing is really getting obnoxious. I think we can all agree on that. That I actually accept as a trend. Why is our offense doing so poorly? It's not because we can't hit people the first time thorugh, it's because somehow, we're hitting .222 at home with a whopping .649 OPS. We're actually one of the better offenses in the league on the road. We're #7 in MLB and #6 in the AL in OPS on the road, and we haven't yet played in Yankee Stadium. We're # 9 in MLB and #6 in the AL in runs scored on the road. But at U.S. Cellular field...we are literally the worst offense in baseball by every single metric out there. We have scored 88 runs in 25 games at home this year. The Padres have scored 95. The Padres have a .669 OPS at home. U.S. Cellular field is behaving like Petco Park for the White Sox right now. Anyone got a good reason for that? And no, "Fire Greg Walker" is not a very intelligent response.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Carlton was a better lhp. Glavine was up there too. Don't forget about Pedro Martinez when it comes to dominance too. People weren't scared when they faced Glavine.

How did Nate McLouth end up in Atlanta and not here?

McClouth would just be benched behind Wise anyway. -
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) 8 shutouts this early into the season doesn't merit a good discussion? If this isn't a topic that merits a discussion, please, point me to one that does. I imagine it's a pretty glorious topic. As soon as that discussion starts, let me know.

Well, that didn't take very long.
