  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Maybe I am looking at this wrong, but once he is appointed... it's done. He's the senator. Since Illinois doesn't have a recall process, the only option is to wait it out. Now, i dont know if Burris can be impeached or found guilt of some crime, that might change things. but as the Gov, i think his relationship to a state senator is appointing one. Unless he resigns, the only option I know about once the documents providing for the appointment are signed, sealed, and delivered, is to have him removed from the Senate by the Senate Ethics committee and a 2/3 vote of the Full Senate (Which frankly, might not be that hard to get, depending on exactly what the ethics committee finds).
  2. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) So when the mortgage/housing charade doesn't work, how long will it take to put forth another 100+ billion dollar program into practice. I would posit that people who are foreclosing will not be able to afford their houses even if their mortgages were cut by a third. I hope the TRANSPARENCY of RE-FORECLOSURE will be available on the RECOVER.GOV website. Which is why a key element of any foreclosure prevention plan has to be allowing bankruptcy judges to do a cram-down, rewriting the mortgage so that there's some loss but the loss in housing value and to the banks is less than it would be if the person simply walked away.
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Was it George W. Bush? He's not that tall.
  4. The good news is, the SEC is actually doing stuff. The bad news is...that's a remarkably big change from a few weeks ago.
  5. I just biked past a 25 foot inflatable rat.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 05:17 AM) Do we know that Selig knew the individuals who tested postitive? I have not seen that confirmed. Somehow Gene Orza knew the players who tested positive in 2003, even though no one at the league or Union was supposed to know that.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) Does the NBA test for steroids? There are some guys in that league that explode over their careers. I am thinking of Jermaine O'Neal but he could have been big when he came into the league. The NBA has had a steroid testing policy/program since 1999. Currently though it's described as probably the weakest of the 3 sports, with the fewest tests on everyone except rookies and probably a lot of stuff that isn't banned or tested for, although that's based on information from around the time of Stern's testimony before Congress in '95. I'll guarantee they dont' have an HGH test or a blood test or anything like that. I would certainly bet a few guys have slipped through their nets.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) Well, with our 11th-14th pick (which ever range we'll be by the end of the season) we could nab him there. Honestly, I don't care if the bulls take on an above average to pretty good looking player (Harden, [who will probably be gone though] Henderson) or a boom-bust/project/potential stud (DeRosan maybe?) at the two guard specifically considering the upcomming draft is very, very weak. I also can't see Gordon comming back next season either. It's also possible the Bulls could package pick 15 and pick 25 and move up a little ways if there's a particular player they want.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 06:37 AM) When else has there been a trillion dollar spending program proposed? Its hard to compare this to anything else if you want to talk about a different level. I am sure if you looked at it, there are plenty of examples that could be found the other way. The invasion of Iraq.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 05:55 AM) By the way, there is now a rising tide pushing for a 28th Amendment to the US Constitution, mandating special elections to fill vacant Senate seats. Russ Feingold in da House! Or at least in da Senate!
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) btw, I was drunk last night and couldn't tell the difference between Burris resigning and his spokesperson. THAAAAT explains that.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Especially since if you take the Democratic logic to the opposite extreme, they shouldn't be using anything with gasoline or oil because they voted against oil exploration, and want other fuel sources. They shouldn't be sending troops to Afganistan, because we don't invade sovereign nations, and then we definitely don't send more troops there when things get bad. They shouldn't ever use a bank, since they want to put restrictions on how they operate. They shouldn't drive cars, because they want higher fuel standards. They shouldn't use their insurance at the doctors until everyone has coverage, heck they should get rid of their Congressional retirements, pensions, and insurance until the entire nation has it. Etc, etc, etc. I'm totally willing to grant you this point. So here's the question...on the ones who take it further than that. The ones who go back to their districts and then say "look at the great program coming to this district" and that program happens to be in the stimulus bill they voted against and called the worst socialism in history or whatever. Does that rise to a different level? Because that's already been happening.
  13. I'm really not sure if I will ever see a video to top this.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) This is one of the most worthless posts I have read on here in quite some time (outside of the filibuster.) Thanks for thinking of us!
  15. 2008 2009 That's Rep Darrell Issa, forgetting that occasionally people write down the things you say. (FWIW, he's right the 2nd time and totally wrong the first)
  16. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) The Reds rotation has a chance of being better than the cubs as I think Harang and Arroyo will bounce back and Cueto and Voloquez are going to be even better. If the Reds kids age nicely and cub veterans do not age nicely, the Reds could be a team to watch out for. Also I like Walt Jocketty and Dusty has accomplished more in the last ten years than Lou has....... The Reds could be a team to watch out for, but frankly, they need Jermaine Dye. They really need a threatening power bat from the right hand side, preferably at a corner OF spot where they're already weak. Their young power bats are all from the left side, and that really unbalances their lineup because they have to move Phillips down.
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) How did Hinrich fall out with Bulls fans. I thought a few years ago Hinrich was considered a good player, then during last year that started to change. I realize Rose is on the team now and he's better than Hinrich and he's younger, but I want to know why the attitude change on Hinrich happened. Mainly, it was his disastrous 2007-2008 season right after he signed a big contract. He went from 06-07 scoring 16.6 a game on 44.8% shooting to scoring 11.5 a game on 41% shooting in similar minutes. He regressed so much over 1 season that even when I thought we had pick #9 last summer, I thought the most obvious position to draft was a PG. Think about this...that team was supposed to compete for the Eastern Conference title last year. It fell apart starting day 1. There were a few obvious candidates of people who were just playing awful, and Hinrich topped that list. That will draw some hostility. He'd still be useful for the right team, where they don't necessarily need scoring but could use solid defense for a full game. Someone like the Lakers, Cavs, Heat, etc. Just not the Bulls.
  18. A year ago, there were more than a few silly people, some perhaps posted in the early days of these threads, saying that Global Warming had stopped, because last year's January was significantly colder than the January the year before. Rather than point out again the obvious flaw in that logic, I'm going to embrace it now...and say that according to NASA, the planet warmed .37 degrees C from January 08 to January 09. This is 20 times the average annual temperature increase prior to this year. At that rate, by the time I'm 50, this planet will be like an oven. Panic!
  19. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) better than it looked 2 days ago. Thing to keep in mind...the Bulls depth chart looks better than it did 2 days ago, and in all respects except extending Gordon, the Bulls' cap status also looks better than it did 2 days ago.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) I agree that I'm glad the Bulls did something, but I was hoping they'd move Hinrich (although I think his salary actually goes DOWN as the contract gets later on, which is good.) In all honesty, as long as they have enough money to go after Bosh/Amar'e and offer them max money, I'll be happy. I'd prefer they be able to do that and keep Ben Gordon (as much as he drives me nuts, they need his scoring), but I have no idea if that is possible. If they keep Gordon, it's almost impossible for them to have 2010 Bosh/Wade cap room, unless Hinrich is turned in to an expiring contract and Gordon can somehow agree to like $9 mil a year or less (in this market...)
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) I'm sure he did, just for you since you're obviously the taxpayer gestapo.
  22. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) I'll miss Thabo. He had his uses but he was just never effective. He needed to develop some semblance of an offensive game and he never did. We started with 2 guards, Gordon and Sef, one defense first, one offense first, and the offense one got better at defense than the other one ever got at offense.
