Burris tried to raise money for blago at behest of blago's brother

The Senior Senator from the Great State of Illinois is throwing the Junior Senator under the bus. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Yay America! Yay Obama, my savior! Roubini and Richardson argue in a WSJ op-ed today that the reason the market is plummeting since Geithner's speech is that Geithner strongly suggested that he was going to put an end to the free money train coming out of Washington.

Um, Hey, um, yeah, New York Post, yeah...um, you might wanna rethink some of your editorial cartoons. Link. Yow.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) Well, if he did come here, he could wear #23 and all too, right? Because the Bulls have never had a good #23, right? Well, there's no one in the Hall of Fame as a Bull wearing that #.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Another rumor per David Aldridge Hughes contract is an asset in terms of 2010 but in this deal they would still be okay for 2010. Basically put if they pull this and the Hinrich deals off (combined with the trade already made) and the team will be essentially set to add in the missing piece in 2010 (ie the star to go along Rose which would move Deng to the ideal 3rd scorer spot and hopefully Tyrus and Noah have developed into a nice 4/5. I still like that Etan Thomas deal. That'd be the last we'd ever see of the patented "absolutely awful Bulls Small Lineup" unless matchups actually said it was a good idea, because we'd have a set of 4 big guys, all of whom need minutes. Both Thomas and James expire in 2010, so that wouldn't hurt our cap space at all, and that could set up some intriguing sign and trade deals or just resigning those guys deals.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) The economy had major gains during Reagans years, even though he was history's greatest monster. That's Jimmy Carter and everyone knows it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Rumor that Hinrich might be on his way to Minnesota for expiring contracts (Jason Collins and an unknown). That would put the Bulls at $35 million committed to 6 players in the 2010 offseason. They could potentially offer a max deal and still offer someone else $8-$10 million, depending on what the cap does by then.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) i'll agree to that....especially given that miller is healthy while gooden may not play the rest of the year... Gooden practiced yesterday and was expected to play tonight. Not that I really wanted him to.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) If Richard makes the club much better as a second lefty out of the pen, you then go about trusting Marquez, Poreda, or any other number of AAA pitchers to be able to come up and get guys out for a couple of starts. Besides that, the poster said he could be a decent starter OR trade bait. If the Sox stumble into 5 good starting pitchers and have the bullpen locked up, there is a possibility to then trade Richard if the right package comes up. Right now, Richard looks like an ideal bullpen lefty for this year.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) This is a phenomenal deal for the Bulls. Now that I've looked through the 2010 cap numbers, I think you're probably right.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Salmons is also a legit 6'6 and plays better defense than Gordon. No one is proclaiming that we're gonna make the Finals because of this deal, but we certainly improve our team NOW and help our cap situation in the future. And we have a shooting guard next season other than Thabo.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Oh wow, I love Hinrich but he'd be replaced with the Great Kaman. WOOT WOOT. I really don't think that has a chance of happening.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Diogu's bounced around a lot in the league, but he'll give the Bulls another body in the frontcourt. C - Miller and Noah PF - Thomas and Diogu That's a pretty decent frontcourt rotation. Diogu appears to be heading to the Kings actually.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) According to 670 via David Aldridge, the Bulls just got John Salmons and Brad Miller for Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni. At least we're rid of the Noc contract. This actually reduces the Bulls cap room next season. In other words, we can no longer offer Gordon as much as we could before this deal. Miller has 2 years on his contract, Salmons has 3. I dislike. That does clear a couple million in 2010 though, and I think that'd be enough to offer a max deal to Bosh that year.

Why in the world would the Clippers want another high priced guard?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) It comes down to how you would answer this. Would Poreda be more valuable to the Sox as a reliever in 2009, or a starter in 2010/11 and beyond? I clearly answer starter. Especially if Contreras can actually pitch for a few months this year.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Unless the Giants step in, I see Crede signing with the Twins for $4-5 mill with incentives. In this market that's still a ton of money. Think about it...given their injury history the last few years, is Joe Crede worth the same amount as Bobby Abreu?

Burris tried to raise money for blago at behest of blago's brother

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) the problem as was documented, that signature by White was just window dressing, technically, and the US Senate had really no power in preventing a state gov. from electing it's senator. I assume you mean "Selecting". The Senate has every right to determine who wins an election. Article 1, section 5. The problem is that the constitution specifically uses the word election. Not appointment. That's why keeping him out would have required a ruling from the Supreme Court. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Fiscally, he was pretty awful, and that's pretty much the Republican model of spending these days as evidenced by the Bush administration. They get indignant about government spending and massive deficits, but that's really what they're about, it's been proven. Yet they cling to the "fiscally responsible" label. That really is annoying to me. Lower taxes, fine, smaller government, fine. Lying about the latter but pushing the former = disaster. Spending only counts if it's spending on social programs. Defense spending doesn't count.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) dont you think that Nocioni has some value to a playoff team? I mean I can see why the t-wolves wouldn't want him, because hes not really a starter or a building block for the future, but a team like (hypothetically) Houston, Atlanta, Portland, Utah, could have interest in Noce and see him in the James Posey, Robert Horry role off the bench. Noce can hit a shot, take a charge, and play d... and his contract isn't that unreasonable. I dunno, just a thought I'd have to think that he has some value to a lot of those teams, the question is...do they want to take on his contract, and is Pax smart enough to give him up for cap space? The reality is, he's worth somewhat more than cap space. But he's not worth anything right now to the Bulls, he's a heavy drag on them and he'll prevent them from improving in the future. It makes sense to do whatever you can to move his contract if you're the Bulls' GM, but after having him for so long and signing him to that deal, trading him for a bag of balls might not be the best PR move.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) what if we need richard in the rotation? Even with all the recent talk, I dont expect Jose to be ready for at least a couple weeks, and who knows with Colon. We might need Richard as a starter, and then we need a second lefty in the pen. I like the idea of Poreda developing his offspeed pitches as a starter in the minors, but lots of guys have had success in their first year in the majors as relievers and then made the shift to starter Yes, people have had success with that. But that doesn't mean that it serves their needs the best. The simple fact with Poreda is that the thing standing between him and a solid front line starting pitcher is a solid 3rd pitch that he can throw for strikes or at least get people to bite on. Out of the bullpen he isn't going to be working on a 3rd pitch. Starting in AAA he will be. With a pitcher trying to add another pitch, starting in the bullpen will be a setback. With a pitcher adapting to throwing against major league hitters, time in the bullpen could be very effective, but right now that's not AP's biggest need.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Are we sure that Pax is still at the helm at this point? Gar Forman had taken the lead in the Amare talks from what was reported. No, we're not.
