QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) I hope they keep the new home buyer credit in. There's a big difference between a new home buyer credit and the any home buyer credit the Senate put in.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) I'd like to have Pace over Flozell Adams at LT, but it'll never happen. I wonder if the Bears would look at him though, even though they have Chris Williams? I sincerely doubt the Bears are going to do anything that will block Williams at LT this season. If they were bringing in a guy to be a backup, an RT, or a guard, I could believe it, but unless they have other medical info saying that Williams is truly in bad shape, they're going to sink or swim with him. -
Yesterday, the AFSCME announced an ad campaign supporting the economic reinvestment and recovery act of 2009 and targeting a couple of key players in the opposition. In response, the office of Rep Eric Cantor (R-VA) sent around this video to a number of press outlets. Totally NSFW language. Repeat, totally NSFW language, consider yourself warned. The video uses "Fish" 6 times, and ends with the phrase: "AFSCME: We’re the fishing union that works for you." Previously, while discussing obscenity on TV, Eric Cantor had this to say:

FWIW, a compromise appears near on the stimulus bill. The rumor is the bill will get slightly smaller and will probably improve substantially; with some of the Senate-added tax cuts and the "Flip your house" credit either weakening or removing, with some portion of the spending on education that the Senate cut going away. The total price tag will drop slightly below $800 billion.

Tejada charged with lying to Congress, will plead guilty

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) No jail time in exchange for his cooperation. Names are coming out folks. Unless he had something to give investigators I can't fathom why the government would make that deal. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) This link is taking a pretty long time to load for me, but I can't see what he said in the section you quoted being incorrect. In so many words, he said oil prices fall, Russia's revenues drop, they're not in a position of strength. What exactly is wrong with him saying that? The $190/barrel price is the incorrect part. Never got above $150.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) What a waste of time. Sponsors didn't drop Phelps when he got a DUI, why would they drop him for what imo is a lesser crime? Because he has A LOT more sponsors now. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Not true, really. He makes tons of money and was in great shape, one would think he could get the best medications, etc. However, had he not known, he probably would be in trouble, though people can live with HIV for an extremely long time. He was 17 what? 20 years ago? Magic's had it about that long. However, just because he was raped when he was 17 that doesn't even mean that's when he contracted the disease. He could have contracted it any year since then, since it seems he's not a fan of using protection. If he contracted that disease at age 17, that would mean he contracted it in 1985. The difference in treatment regimens available between someone who contracted it in 1985 and someone who contracted it in the early 90's is very, very large.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) It will be interesting to see if this is for good, or if he's just a boxer type who plans to retire and unretire several times. As of now though, i'll be one of the first (and certainly not the last) to say that Brett Favre with the Jets=Willie Mays with the Mets, and it's a shame either of those short eras had to happen. Last year I could understand why he came back, physically he seemed fine. This time though, I think everyone would agree his body finally started breaking down towards the end of this season. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) I thought they ended up taking the tests after the union talked to them? The 03 Sox did wind up taking the tests in the end. We don't know exactly what the Union might have said to get them to take the tests, but they certainly did protest by refusing to take them, and I'm almost certain they took them in the end. It wouldn't surprise me if what the Union said to them was "Guys, we're already past the 5% mark, there's going to be testing next year, please take them so this doesn't blow up on everyone."

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 08:11 AM) Obviously lying to congress is a big deal especially if you're under oath, but how is lying to investigators (assuming you're not under oath) a crime? This doesn't make sense to me. Scenario. Bank robber runs past you carrying sacks of cash. You clearly see which way he's going. 30 seconds later some police officers run up and ask "Which way did he go?" You deliberately point in the wrong direction. You're not under oath at the time. Crime? I'm sure that getting out of the charges of lying to Congress, charges that might have gotten him deported, was a big part of Tejada's motivation for taking the plea deal. He should probably be considered to be copping a plea to some form of obstruction of justice I think. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) Five years later, Brian is arrested by the Soxtalk police for using PEDs - Post Enhancing Drugs. A Peter Gammons interview follows. 2k5 continues to insist his post count growth was natural, and the size of his head never changed.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) Considering they were EXACTLY right (or close) only once, in 2007....this number would mean they've been incorrect by an average of 13.5 games per season. That's simply ridiculous as a predictive model. I wonder where they had the Rays coming into last season? They had the Rays taking a gigantic leap last season. They had them predicted as going from a 66 win team to an 88 win team, near or at the top of the AL. -

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) He could simply say "due to lack of solid evidence, we will no longer pursue this as a criminal investigation." They have a picture of him smoking something out of a pipe. It could have been tobacco or salvia (not sure if it's legal in that state,) but it most likely wasn't. That's not strong enough to hold up in the court of law. But if you had a handful of witnesses testifying the opposite, would that be enough? -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) I am surprised the statue of limitations didn't expire on this case. I wouldn't think you can pursue a case against a guy who took a hit off a bong several months ago at a party (I think it was several months ago.) I think the sheriff is wasting his time here, although I agree he's in a no win situation. Link -

Fitz likely to be asked to stay on in U.S. attorney's office. -
On a slightly different topic, here's a Congressman describing something we probably didn't know about before...the entire financial system almost collapsed in a Money market account run last September. On the other hand, here's the Politico asking if that actually happened. If it did happen, then it's perhaps an incredible missed story by the media; a giant bank run that went unreported. If it didn't happen, then given how he described that, as information coming directly from the people proposing the bailout, then it's worth asking who exactly it was who told him that story.
