QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) I don't quite get what you're trying to say. How would he still have Bird rights with Phoenix if he has to waive them to allow a trade? That would mean that they would have to have enough space under the cap to sign him to an extension, which they don't. It would make him a mortal lock to be a FA and rule out any sign and trades possibilities. Stealing from that article. If I'm reading this right, I think it says that the new team still would be able to use the bird exception to perform a sign and trade with him if that's what they wanted to do. Am I wrong? I don't know the NBA cap that well.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) right, but I'm not certain how much is fair. If those jeans, with choice, are marked up more, than maybe TM is charging a fair price If TM did not have exclusive contracts with so many venues, could I turn a profit by running a ticket selling operation with service charges 50% less than TM?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) Correct, Ben would have to waive for his Bird Rights and NTC. That ain't happening. With that said, I'm willing to clear the whole frontcourt for Amare. I hope it happens. As a guy who's going to be an unrestricted FA anyway this offseason, what would Gordon lose if he waived his Bird rights to allow a trade? According to the Wikipedia entry on the cap, if Gordon were to waive his rights to allow a trade, the Suns would be able to sign him under the same Bird rights as those rights are traded with him. I don't think it would cost him any money unless he thinks the Bulls are going to come up with a better offer.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) The truth IMHO is if there was a no steroid league, and a cheat all the want league, the cheat all you want league, with 500 foot homeruns and 110 mph fast balls will outdraw the clean league. The casual fan wants to see rooftop shots. Didn't guys like Mantle and Mays hit more than a few of those back in their era?

If this doesn't change the topic nothing will. Obama bumps head

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) Hmmmm; FWIW, the Suns may want Gordon's expiring deal instead of Noah included in a package also. Gordon should have veto rights over any trade I believe. That said, I'd be more than happy to keep someone who can play the Center role on our team if we made that deal. So that we won't have to see Deng there any more.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) That does seem like a lot, but I wonder when I buy a new pair of jeans, what the store marks them up? But...if you don't like the price those jeans are being offered for, you have many other options. You can try a different brand. You can try a different store. You can go to a discount store. You can wait for a sale. You can decide on wearing a different pair of pants. You can move to a warmer climate. You can go purchase a larger SUV and pump out additional CO2 for the next 20-30 years. You have essentially none of those options in dealing with ticketmaster.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) I haven't read this thread in a week or so, have I missed anything? Tax cuts are a very ineffective method of economic stimulus compared to government spending.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Hey, hopefully one day Cuba will become a free country. That'll be great not only for the people of Cuba, but for baseball as well. I suppose Cuban baseball would take a big hit though since a lot of those players would then sign with Major league ball clubs. Havana is a city of over 2 million people and is clearly within flying distance of every other team in MLB, at least until the next energy price spike. In the short term the economy couldn't handle a modern major league team and affording a ballpark, but given how rapidly that country might be rebuilt once tourism dollars can start flowing in to there again, that could be a wonderful place for a major league team.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) The Bulls could go small ball and play Amare at C if they acquired him. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST THAT TO DEL NEGRO.

Again I'll ask, folks, let's please drop this and move on. If I have to I'll go on some sort of anti-tax-cut rant to forcibly change the subject.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) Basically, if the Bulls want either Amare or Bosh, they're gonna have to give up TT, Noah, Gooden and a 1st. John Paxson has got to decide whether or not he's willing to do that. Steven A. Smith reported a couple weeks ago that Bosh told Torotno he won't be re-signing with them in 2010. There's also another way the Bulls could make a run at Bosh; clear a little bit more cap room for 2010.

From Bill Moysers'show last weekend, a couple interesting ideas.

Only one guy's opinion, but probably not far from reality.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) Sabean's really gotten his act together this offseason. I'd say the addition of Crede would make them the class of the division. If their kids step up more than expected perhaps. But the D-backs seriously underperformed last year, and the Dodgers still look like they'll wind up with manny. Both of those teams are vastly more loaded than the Giants except at the #2 starter spot.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Has it been confirmed the White Sox agreed to waive his arb? I know its regularly done with players from Cuba and Japan, but perhaps because of his age, they held on to that. Yes. He signed a $10 million(or so) 4 year deal. The only way that would work out to a 4 year deal is if the sox signed that standard "we'll release you after x years" clause. Otherwise it couldn't be a 4 year deal.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) He's what, 19 or 20? I say we lower our expectations a bit and plan on him being in AA (maybe even single A) and go from there. It all depends on how he does in spring training, but if the season started next week and we had to set all the rosters, Viciedo would be in A Ball. The thing to remember is we only have him on a 4 year contract. We get him for 4 years no matter what level he's at, then he becomes a FA. If he spends 3 years in the minors, we'd get virtually no time of him in the big leagues before he's a FA. We gain no time by keeping him in the minors. It actually behooves the sox to rush him, because it's our best shot at recouping our investment.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) because Dye is a completely different hitter than Bobby Abreu. Abreu is average/on-base with a bit of power. Dye is all about power. That's why teams would still trade for him. And RHP vs. LHP. And if you have a young team, every indication I've gotten suggests I'd rather have dye in the clubhouse.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Do catchers even call the games anymore? Doesn't it all come from the dugout now? Depends on the team and the catcher and the player. Example...I doubt anything Buehrle throws comes from the dugout. Not enough time to relay those signals, and they trust AJ.
