  1. I swear, every time I stick something in the catch-all thread...
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) Too much money. Has a good year, they don't give him 5-50, has a down year, and they give him 6-72 or 6-70 or whatever it is. But, what are you going to do? Hopefully they can re-sign then trade Gordon now with Kirk hopefully. Like it or not, the Bulls really didn't have a choice. They couldn't afford to make a major move without resigning Deng, they couldn't afford to have him sign the 1 year tender, they couldn't hold out and hope his demands would come down if he decided to go that route. If he signed the 1 year tender they'd have no choice but to trade him. So yeah, he's overpaid based on his performance last year. But if there's still interest in Hinrich after the season he had last year and with his contract, then a decent season or two from Deng and his contract will still be movable.
  3. QUOTE (southsidesoxfan1983 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) did BA get traded is that why he was taking out? I'm sure he was taken out because the Twins brought in a right handed reliever and God himself has dictated that Brian Anderson will never get a hit off a right handed pitcher again.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260826104 Man I still hate that game. Worst game since 2003.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) It's all confidence with PK right now. Problem is, we can't afford to keep losing games while he kills us at the plate and in the field. Seriously? Do you actually believe there's nothing mechanically or physically screwed up with him?
  6. QUOTE (Swishin' Aint Easy @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) What's your reasoning?? Because I'm pretty sure there are plenty of players that are playing worse baseball than he is. Shows how much confidence Ozzie has in Brian when Swish pinch hits for him...Did I mention Swisher hasn't had this whole road-trip? I have no reasoning. I just know in my heart of hearts that Brian Anderson is the worst human being in the long, sad history of the human race.
  7. Brian Anderson should never play baseball again
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Don't send OC on the 3-2 After 4 times I think it's ok.
  9. Artest to Houston for Bobby Jackson, #1 pick, Donte Green.
  10. Even if the team probably overpaid some...that was the deal they had to get done. There's just no way they could let Deng enter the year on the 1 year deal and still have any hope of putting together a consistent team that can make a run in a couple year.s
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Texeira may only be a rental player? I kind of doubt it. I think the LAA will sign him long term. They seem to have lots of money. If we keep Konerko at 1B I won't cry. But, Mark T is a heckuva a player. Teixeira is still a Boras Client. No matter what happens, he's hitting the FA market unless his arm falls off before the end of the season. Boras clients do not sign contracts before they hit the market, especially not the big names. They certainly have money available to sign him...but Teixeira is going to the highest bidder. The Yankees could use a 1b. They're probably going to be starting off asking for the neighborhood of $200 million.
  12. I just counted 9 news vans set up outside my building tonight for the 6:00 news. And a couple more that were clearly there with the group, but unmarked.
  13. There's so many jokes one could make about this one... Seriously, don't get in the doorway during an earthquake. Get under a table or desk. The doorway thing is an old myth because when people built houses 50 years ago with those big, powerful doorways, the house would get demolished but that doorway would wind up standing. Most doorways don't do anything similar these days.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Well he's on pace to hit about the same amount of HR he hit last season, it just appears he isnt hitting as many doubles, which is a byproduct of his BABIP being lower. Basically the doubles he is hitting arent dropping for hits. This probably wouldnt have much to do with steroids, and more to do with the balls he is hitting being caught. But...that assumes a constant ballpark. Some of the balls he hit for doubles last year in Oakland would probably have left the Cell, so it's entirely possible the reason his HR total is similar is ballpark factor.
  15. Hmph. With Tex gone, saving them probalby $4 million this season, Hampton and Smoltz and Glavine presumably gone, that's about $54 million coming off the books for the Braves at the end of this season including the $4 they just saved.
  16. Well...if the Sox are desperate to unload Konerko next offseason...and he does anything to make himself look like he's worth his contract before the end of this year, that may have just opened up a 1b hole on the Angels, which is where everyone always wants to send him.
  17. Man, when they hit in the middle of a network, these computers are really, really fast at getting the hard data together. 10 years ago this stuff wouldn't have been available until days to weeks after an event. The joys of the internets. Turns out it's something we'd call a dip-slip event, not quite a strike slip signal and not quite a thrust signal, but somewhere in-between. Kind of makes sense based on the area it's happening, hit on a fault that likely didn't break the surface, but also hits in an area where there's sort of a directional change in the mountain range, so there's some shear force on the rocks as well. In something like 5-10% of quakes, there will be an aftershock larger than the initial large event, so folks at least should be moderately cautious over the next day or two.
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Balta, isn't this basically porn for someone in your field of study Somewhat. Maybe more so for the people in the building next door. I deal more with rocks that melt than with rocks that break.
  19. Initial magnitude estimate downgraded to 5.4
  20. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) Any team that refuses to speak with Boras clients immediatly cuts themselves out of a lot of quality players. When is the last time a team set itself up for a long term championship-level run by giving a lot of money to a Scott Boras managed player?
  21. For people who say 24 and Family Guy, put them in the same boat as the Simpsons...the first few seasons of each of those shows was pretty much spectacular.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) "It's a SERIES OF TUBES" And trust me...it's not a dump truck
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Goodbye, Ted, get the hell out of Washington, you scum. Can we have him shipped out in some sort of pneumatic tube?
  24. Appears to have been on a blind thrust fault in the Chino Hills, about 7 miles south of Pomona. 10 miles from Riverside, 10 miles from Anaheim, 30 miles or so from downtown L.A.
