  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Pitch count is by far one of the most overrated factors in determining fatigue for a pitcher. If he starts hanging breaking balls and missing up in the zone, then he should be taken out. Not because he has thrown over 100 pitches. But, in counterpoint...Gavin's only 25. While I have no problem pushing his arm for 200 innings this year because he's thrown 175 or so each of the last few years...given his age, his contract status, etc., I really don't want to see him throwing 120 pitches in a game unless the entire bullpen is unavailable. There's no reason to risk his pitching arm foolishly at this point in his career. A starting pitcher who can put up a sub 3.5 ERA while making the league minimum and still having a few arb years ahead of him is a lot more valuable than a single win (unless it's October)
  2. Brian is hitting 1 home run in every 10 at bats against lefties. The problem is...he is 8/50 overall.
  3. 78 pitches through 5 for Gavy. Slightly better than his pace after 3, still has a shot at going 7.
  4. You know, I have a ton of confidence in Gavin right now...but seriously we've got to get him another run or two
  5. Ugh, this is why I don't like Anderson hitting second. Ozzie doesn't trust him with the bat, especially against a LHP, which he shouldn't yet, he has Anderson bunt, and all that does is take the bat out of JD's hands. At least we get Thome with em loaded.
  6. Good first 3 for Gavin, but he's throwing a lot of pitches so far. 48 through 3. 28 strikes, 20 balls...too many out of the strike zone. Could use a quick inning or two.l
  7. Alexei takes the walk, his first walk since June 10. He ought to try to work a couple more of those.
  8. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) great to see ankiel come through there The HGH giveth and the HGH taketh away...
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) They are also only 8-9 when Mark Buerhle starts. Maybe they should yank him from the rotation. The bench must play occassionally Much smaller sample size than the one he showed earlier, and frankly, Mark didn't pitch that well for the first 2 months of the season now did he?
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Good enough for advanced steroids and HGH? Most of the newer stuff is nearly undetectable. Frankly I don't think we know all the stuff they're able to test for and I think that's a good thing. Here's a bit from earlier this year... It wouldn't surprise me if the folks at WADA right now are better than we think they are at figuring out that a person is on something whether or not the drug itself is actually detectable. Every drug of that sort screws with some chemical level in the body in certain ways, and if you're careful enough on the testing...
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) They'll be a lot of "magical" Chinese gold medal-winning athletes, I bet. Somehow, they got a lot better, very quickly, for the glory of the Chinese People's Republic. Frankly though, home court advantage always helps. And the people who do the testing for the Olympics are as good as anyone out there as far as I can tell.
  12. Anderson in the 2 spot against a lefty pitcher? UGH.
  13. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) We are 17-22 in games which Uribe has started. Since we win almost 70% of games he has not started in, I do not want to see much more of him Frankly, those are hard stats to argue with
  14. Well, I'm sure everyone here then is more than happy to have their taxes raised so that we can keep Rush's low and finance all the invasions he wants.
  15. John Edwards is scheduled to debate Karl Rove in Buffalo on September 26th. (presumably once again he wouldn't be doing that if he was on the VP list)
  16. Javy really jelped out the bullpen a ton today by going the full 9.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Pushing for renewable energies is a great idea. However, that switch is going to take a bit. You realize that there are 150 to 200 million cars in the US that happen to use gas correct. Even if they say came up with a new type of car that ran on hydrogen, and they did solve the distribution system. Thats a lot of scratch for the average person to spend to buy a new car. The old car of course, would have little resale value due to the new infrastructure. How long exactly do you think its going to take to get that cutover to happen. So what is Obama going to do with the oil issue that will still be here in the next couple of decades as we cut over. Detroit would be pretty happy about that. Seriously...yes it is a lot of money to spend on a new car. But if the other option is paying $4000, $5000 a year for gasoline because the world simply doesn't have enough and other countries still want it...which would you choose/
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Oh boy, Javy still in the game Javy's biting the bullet to rest the bullpen here, clearly.
  19. Watch Ozzie pinch hit Anderson for Wise here despite all the numbers that say "Don't do that!"
