If your pitching gives up 1 run through 8 and you can't bring your closer in, ugh.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Why not keep Thornton in? Good question. Thanks offense!
-
So, does anyone want to put money on Anderson being sent down and Wise being kept up when Uribe returns?
-
Liney in.
-
12 base runners in 9 innings.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) Wise is above BA on depth chart? Of course. He's a good ol fashioned capitalist.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Swisher's at least due for a walk. Ha! Got one right!

Swisher's at least due for a walk.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 30, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) For Tampa? At least he hit the ball.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 30, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) 3. You know, sending him down for a week or two might not be the worst idea right now.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 30, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) That was a pretty horses*** ab from crede from the get go. Guy walks, and he starts expanding the zone on first pitch. No plan. What happened to the Clutch crede of a few years months weeks ago?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) count's ERA under 3 The White Sox have 4 pitchers in the top 16 of ERA's in the AL.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) It's funny how Gameday says "Player X homers (#) on a fly ball to xxxx field." lol, is there another way to homer? Line drive
-
So, I just opened gameday. We have 4 hits and a walk in 2 innings and 0 runs? Yeesh. A 2.50 WHIP.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) So, is it blatantly obvious that Todd Helton was a juicer? His slugging percentage decrease is very suspicious. Well, the only person who responded with more vehemence to the allegation than Helton did was Clemens. Helton got the only guy who accused him in a paper to take it back really, really quick.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 28, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) I seem to recall that when Richard Clarke had his book coming out around election time, McClellan tearing into Clarke in his press briefing on March 22, 2004 when asked about Richard Clarke’s book blasting the Bush Administration for 9/11 and CIA intelligence failures: Hmmm. It seems that at a hotel in NY last night, Scooter ran in to Richard Clarke, just after Clarke finished up on the Daily Show (Where Scooter will be on Monday). There was an apology involved.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Then why not mention of tremendous amount of community service that is given by those same Churches? AMERICANS allowed that tax advantage. They also offer tax free advantages to purely partisan groups as well. Why not start there? Please, name some. When I contribute to a 527, or to a candidate, it is not a tax deductible contribution. When I give to the NRA, it's tax deductible, but that money is at some level required to be used for work other than political work. If you're going to be working for one side, then the money you raise can't be tax-deductible.

Bob Dole went all Hulk Smash on Scooter today.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) I am an American. I work a job, I volunteer in my community, and I damn well will not give up my rights to make an impact in my community, nation, and world, because I attend Church. My opinion and vote is just as valid as an atheist. People can gather any damn place they want to discuss how to make their community and nation better. No one's asking you to do any of those things. The whole reason this is a question is not because there's some logical reason why it's a bad thing for religious people to have an influence on politics, or because they shouldn't be able to talk about some things...it's because of the gigantic tax advantages given to religious institutions. If you want to be a tax advantaged charity, then at some level, you do need to be below the fray. Otherewise, you're in the classic situation of one party getting in power and giving bigger tax advantages to charities that do the work supporting that party.

How's this for forum crossover? For a couple months now, a guy calling himself "Poblano" has been doing some of the most accurate predictions of the results of the Dem primaries based on the demographics of states and how the polling went in those demographics in earlier contests. Gotten a fair amount of fame amongst the people following the campaign closely. Today, he gave up his ID. Nate Silver, from Baseball Prospectus.

QUOTE (Mplssoxfan @ May 30, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) About as much chance as I have of going to the Oscars with Scarlett Johanssen. It's not very likely. But if you could find a way for it to drive big time ratings for CNN, MSNBC, and Faux News...then you've got a shot.

What should Ozzie do with Swisher?
Balta1701 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 30, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) By what measure do you conclude that having Swisher in the 2 slot is better than AJ? Because right now, even with AJ's slump, his OBP is slightly higher, his AVG is far higher, and AJ is striking out half as often (in fact, AJ has one of the lowest K rates in the lague right now). Those are hallmarks of a solid #2 hitter, whereas Swisher has a profile that for now is much better suited to the heart of the order. AJ has also hit at below .200 for the last week. One thing you sort of do want out of your top 2 guys is a lack of streakiness. Because if they're hot and cold, then you are hot and cold in terms of having runners on base for superQ to drive in. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2008 -> 05:37 AM) Are expatriots counted like Mexico does? For U.S. citizens, there was a "Democrats Abroad" primary a couple months ago. For Puerto Ricans who have moved to the U.S., don't they have some level of citizenship anyway, so doesn't that depend on where they're registered?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 30, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) You're still not allowing for what I think is the most likely possibility - to LET some banks and funds fail, or at least to make them soak in some of that bad debt themselves. The loss of money will be primarily in devaluations that will occur over time for the holders of these debts and swaps. I simply can't imagine what it would be like for the country if there was an actual failure and run on a major bank, let's say, Citibank, for example. Where millions of people are actually making use of the FDIC in order to get some chunk back of their balances, where suddenly because the company is no longer operating people have no means to make use of their active credit streams, etc. What would a run on a major bank like Citigroup actually be like? (Just for reference, I just cashed in a gigantic boatload of my reward points from my Citibank credit card...just because I've been worrying about this for about 6 months)

Bulls do not hire Doug Collins as head coach
Balta1701 replied to thedoctor's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (shipps @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) I dont feel good about this.I cant envision Phil bringing us a championship in the next year or two,I just cant. Well...somehow I doubt Phil will be coaching the Bulls any time in the future... But even just on Collins...right now the Bulls aren't playing for next year. That's the short definition of getting a 19 year old with a #1 pick...they're not going to light the league on fire for a couple years. The Bulls have to be playing for the 2010-2011 season right now, in my eyes. Set yourself a 3 year plan in terms of how you use your players, draft picks, and cap space so that you give your pick (Rose) 2 seasons to adapt his game to the NBA game and build a relationship with his teammates, and try to put yourself in position where you have the cap flexibility to add the parts you need at that time. (Conveniently, that just happens to be the Wade/Lebron/Melo offseason as well) You go out and start grabbing all stars right now, all you do is kill your cap space and wind up with 33 year old people who's careers are winding down just at the time your #1 pick starts blossoming, and you've built yourself is a team that never gets past the conference finals.
