QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) The same Sean Marshall that couldn't reach 85 mph during the 2nd half of the season? Rich Hill has a ton of trade value, but Tampa really should try to get Hill, Soto, and Marmol. And, given that they don't need to trade Crawford for what, 3 years...there's no reason to do that deal without getting at least those 3 guys.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) Also, if I'm the "Rays", I'd take a flier on Prior... For Prior to be involved in this deal, the Cubs would have to actually offer him arb, which would guarantee him several million dollars next year. He could well be signed for less than that on the open market.

Dwight Freeney could be out for the season.

"That's an excellent question"

If you watch oil prices over the past few years, that sort of triangle pattern is common. A fairly slow rise up to some plateau, then a pretty quick dropoff once the price overshoots where it should be and demand slows. Then, a slow climb back up to a higher price level.

For God's sake...NO MORE 3RD BASEMEN!!! WE HAVE TOO MANY AS IT IS!!!

QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Does anyone think there is a chance that the Sox sign Hunter and Shannon Stewart for LF? Gosh it would be the Chicago version of the Twins with Hunter, AJ and Stewart... I think it's at least possible that they might want to platoon Owens if they just don't trust him. Personally though I'd still vastly prefer to see them spending that $ to upgrade the SS position somehow, or the bullpen. I can understand bringing in 1 OF if we don't want Fields in LF, but with the way Owens played last year, I have difficulty justifying spending the money on 2 if our budget is limited at all.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) That would easily be the dumbest thing Minnesota could do. I actually disagree with this. If Minnesota can't come up with a CF by trading Santana, then they really don't have anyone who can play that position nearly as well as Hunter. Hunter would be a huge upgrade over whatever they'd be sticking in there. And they're going to be opening a new ballpark in a year or two, so the money should be there if they actually want to spend it. Of course, that doesn't take into account their owner.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Me too, but he is a huge question mark as well, not always a sure thing. Aside from Hunter, can you name any sure thing on this market as an OF? And hell, even Torii isn't exactly a spring chicken these days. Cameron? PED's. Jones? Horribly inconsistent last year. Rowand? Very up and down historically Fukudome? Japanese. Crisp? Down from his time with the Indians, about to lose his job. Damon? Old, overpaid. This is the reason I hate building a team from the FA market...there's almost never a sure thing except for maybe ARod. No matter what, you're trying to grab a guy for a lot of money who's guaranteed to be at least somewhat up there in years. If this Fukudome dude can get on base, has a little bit of speed, and could play a good LF, he'd solve an awful lot of our lineup problems as a 2nd hitter.

QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) I'd have Weeks 2nd too. He hasnt figured it out yet and I know the Brewers are disapoointed, but when he does...look out. I get a lot of slack for that w/my buddies. Usually he settles in 4th or 5th. I usually go back and forth as to whether I'd want Weeks or Gallardo 2nd. Unless you're talking about Pujols, the "Take young pitching over young hitting" rule should probably still hold, even if you don't need the pitching. It just has vastly more value to other teams in trades, if nothing else. And if you look at the FA market this offseason, it's def. a lot easier to find a good bat than a good arm.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) At least Buehrle PWNS the s*** out of him. See, the problem is...against a lefty, they can just sit Jones and put in Rayburn or Thames, and Thames at least has a .826 OPS against MB.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) The same can be said about Jones...ugh. Since 2005, Jones has, in 61 at bats, put up 5 home runs and a 1.005 OPS against the White Sox. In that time, Jones has hit 5 home runs against 2 other team; the St. Louis Cardinals and the Reds. In 120 and 109 at bats, respectively. He has not hit more than 4 against any other team in that stretch. He has a higher OPS against us than against anyone else he's seen more than 25 times. Infante has hit .295 against us in the last 3 years, in 96 at bats, but has only posted an .800 OPS. He has hit 4 home runs against the Sox in that time, and has not hit more than 2 against any other team. Ugh, can these guys like collide on their way to each other's parks & both wind up on the DL?

QUOTE(farmteam @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) I hope so. I wasn't that lucky, I was stuck in the second to last row of the balcony. Who would you put in the starting 5, greasy? I remember those seats! -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Doesnt the whole thing seem orchestrated though? Isnt it wierd that on the very same week that Rex has his workload increased "just in case" that Brian Griese goes down with a vague shoulder injury? Strange coincidence Possible Griese's arm was hurting some during the week before the game & that's why Rex got the extra reps?

Neyer on the 2 NL guys.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Wow, hell of a deal here http://tgiblackfriday.com/Circuit-City/App...iPod-nano--deal s***, I paid $399 for this last month http://tgiblackfriday.com/BestBuy/Toshiba-...DVD-Movies-deal Usually at this point you can sort of guess the type of things that will be on black Friday sales some time in advance at those stores. You're guaranteed to see some DVD sets, DVD/HDDVD/Blu Ray players, some high-end TV's, and various accessories. Personally, if I was going to be in the market for any of those things in the fall, I'd at least wait for that day to see what I could pull off. Usually though, from my experience in watching things, by next June, for most of the electronics, the price you see on Black Friday will pretty much be the standard price. That rule hasn't held with the Ipod, but most things it will work for.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) The Tigers gave Todd Jones $7 million. Wow. With Zumaya out, it's either him or go after Cordero/Rivera/Gagne.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) Except we won't get Jones for one year... There is going to be a team that loses out on Rowand/Hunter/Cameron/Fukodome that wants and upgrade and Borass will talk them into Jones, just like the shyster used car salesman that he is. There are what, 30 teams out there? YOu just named 5 potential CF's counting Jones. I'm still wondering if this isn't enough to saturate the market. Esp. if you talk about teams like the Twins who are losing CF's but aren't in the market for any of these higher priced guys

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) --Mike Gravel will find a reason to scold everyone on the stage other than himself At least for the last one, the hosts finally started saying that Gravel isn't actually running a campaign since he doesn't bother, you know, campaigning, and didn't include him.

Not exactly surprising on any of the choices. NL was close.

It's being said quite widely on the internets this morning that Sen. Obama seems to have given his best speech of the campaign season this weekend at the Iowa Jefferson/Jackson dinner fundraiser. And he steals the Bulls' introduction.
