QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Sooner or later, AQ will ban something that just about everybody is against. Most people won't even take sides, until something happens that effects them. With smoking as prevelant as it is over there, I can imagine that being a huge issue for some. So in other words, you have no idea what he's talking about either, but if he was making sense it'd be really cool?

I won't immediately laugh this off as the mad rantings of a lunatic...but has anyone else heard anything about this from any other source other than the mouth of this former Senator?
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I don't know if that is his strongest issue. But just curious, what statements are you referring to that were foolish? Well, the one from this week was him saying something along the lines of Iowa was first in the caucus and primary season... And to top that off...his defense of those remarks when he was asked later what he meant...he didn't even go with the "Botched joke" one...he just came out and said "oh that was just pandering". Not the biggest gaffe in history, but certainly something that would have gotten him laughed at had he been higher in the polls.

Fresh off a couple statements in the past week or so that have just made him look foolish, Bill Richardson goes back to the issue where he may well be the strongest candidate: Iraq, and the fact that he's the only major candidate to say "get every U.S. soldier out".

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) I'd be down for Atkins, arms for Jon Garland. Can Atkins play SS?
-
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) Garland will be a $12M rental next year and he's pitching poorly and is likely injured. You can't get much for that. Gio Gonzalez + Gavin Floyd?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) I believe he was capable of handling the job. I liked his early cabinet choices, his faith based initiatives, and a few other things. Tex, an important point you're missing is that things like the faith based initiatives, the whole "compassionate conservative" schtick, was merely that; it was a show. It was something to get elected. Even the guy who was the #2 person in the "Faith Based initiative" office for the first couple years of this administration has come out and said exactly that, in book form of course. Some samplings of his writings: Saying "Where did Bush go wrong" or "What happened to him" is totally the wrong question, and it's the one that, out of all the others, the folks who ran this administration want you to be asking. To my eyes...this is exactly who they are. They got almost everything they wanted. This disaster...this is the result of these people and their policies...not someone hijacking anything. These messes...this is the net result of the kind of person George W. Bush is and the things the folks around him believe in. They just threw a few bones out there and focused on them so that the media wouldn't pay attention to the other messes, like say, bothering to plan for a war or anythign like that.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) One of trades was the Glaus trade so it made me wonder who else they "shipped out" in between 9-2004 and 6-2006. 12/14/05. Arizona ships out Javier Vazquez to Chicago for Orlando Hernandez, Luis Vizcaino, and Chris Young. (Vazquez did demand a trade...but since you asked).

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Colorado would be a perfect match for the Sox, but we need to be talking about their young position players, and not their pitchers. Amen. Think they'd talk Tulowitzki?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) How long did it take us to go into Iraq? It wasn't like we went in the Monday after a Friday night. But...how long does it take to move 250,000 soldiers and ready the infrastructure for such an invasion? Less than 6 months after the administration had it's excuse for the invasion, special forces units were being pulled out of Afghanistan and being told to prepare for Iraq...and at the same time, money was being transferred by the Administration (without Congressional approval i might add) to the same theater; building up pipelines and other supply lines in Kuwait. The decision to go into Iraq was made in early 02, and the preparations were underway from that point. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) It will be interesting when the first significant White Sox name comes out. As long as it's not Thomas.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) Wow. It's ALL about oil and religion, and NOTHING else. And you all say I wear a tin foil hat. Just adding that little note. I could probably throw in that the Yugoslavia mess really does throw a bit of a wrench into Tex's religion argument, at least to my eyes. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) Kap, when was the last time we bombed a Christian country? OK, upon further review, I'll retract that as hyperbole. But it is an interesting fact of who we bomb and who we send money to. How many Christian countries are sitting on top of seas of oil? -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) Massett seems like he's another Gavin Floyd (a headcase), or am I reading into that wrong? At least from what I saw, I think Floyd at least comes up there with better stuff. If Masset was throwing mid 90's as advertised, I'd change that, but they're roughly the same on velocity and Floyd seemed to have much better off speed stuff.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/070907/greenspan_market.html?.v=6 Well, if Greenspan thinks that, I wonder when we are going to have our 1,000 point in one afternoon drop? Considering how big of a role he had in building up this house of cards...

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) So the fact that Edwards isn't even in third, but is now in 4th, in New Hampshire, doesn't seem like a negative thing to you? If last time is any indication...the only thing that's going to matter anyway is who wins Iowa. And at the last block of polls I saw from there...Iowa looked like a complete tossup right now. Depending on the Poll and its likely voter screen you can find all 3 of them either tied or leading by 5 points. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) I still think Thornton and MacDougal should be on the team. MacDougal tried to hard to strike out hitters this year instead of making people put the ball in play (which he was great at last year when we got him). One of the reasons that I like Wasserman so much is that he gets a lot of grounders, which is crucial out of the bullpen. Besides for MacDougal coming into this season, we had a bunch of pitchers who were fly ball pitchers. I think that the fact that both of them are already signed will make it difficult for them to not be in the pen next year. You pretty much just have to hope that they'll be able to be better than this year, or stay healthy, etc. That last spot, if we go with 11 pitchers, seems up for grabs. If a starter is not traded, I'll lay 80-20 odds that somehow it goes to Gavin Floyd or we carry 12 pitchers, because I really doubt anyone's going to give KW enough to trade him and I really doubt we'll let him walk due to lack of options.

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) If only we had Timo!!! I'd take him over Erstad. There, I said it.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) Oops, sorry, we do accept Judaism. Yeah, the Bible says the end times require there to be Jews, so for the rapture to happen we kinda need them around.
-
So...here's a question. Which team had the better protection for its cleanup hitter tonight? Detroit: Guillen followed by Timo Chicago: Konerko followed by Erstad and Gonzalez?
-
By the way, tonight appears to have seriously helped Granderson's efforts to become a 20/20/20/20/20 guy.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Timo Perez was serving as Carlos Guillen's protection. har har har Hey, it wouldn't be the first time Timo has been protection for the biggest bat in the lineup on a World Series team...
-
Even though it was against Timo...nicely done Gavin.
-
0/3 with 3 K's for Guillen. Maybe we should keep Gavin around next year just to pitch to him.
-
This has the makings of a "Floyd Blow-up" inning like we've seen a couple times...
