  1. Here's the good news...when Silva shuts us out today, it may give the Twins reason to keep Silva in the majors for a little bit longer instead of calling up Matt Garza to give the Twins a 3 headed monster of young pitching for this season.
  2. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) I would prefer that Detroit sweep the Twins. I'm hoping for a gigantic Brawl and multiple 10 game suspensions.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) As was AJP. Meanwhile, Schilling has 13 wins, and Verlander's ERA is around 2.70 now. Josh Beckett has 13 wins also.
  4. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) MBINAA? MBHNM.
  5. Podsednik would have caught that! Oh, wait...
  6. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Seriously. Someone needs to sit Ozzie down and tell him to stop marching out these retarded lineups. I don't mind at all that Ozzie's giving people extra rest, but I'm just being driven nuts by the fact that the only thing on which we base which backups to play and which regulars to rest is whether there's a righty or a lefty on the mound. We pay no attention at all to who's actually hitting well, or who's hitting well against lefties and righties, we pay no attention to defense, we pay no attention to the history of each batter against a particular pitcher, it's all, 100% on lefty-righty matchups. As someone said a while ago, Iguchi is terrible this year against lefties and great against righties, and Cintron is better against lefties and worse against Righties, so we play Cintron against the righty and Iguchi last night against the lefty. Brian Anderson hits 40 points better against righties, so whenever there's a righty in there, Mack gets the start in CF, and Anderson sits around and rests those tired 24 year old legs.
  7. QUOTE(brijames @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) It will take at least 8 runs to win today with Mack out there. Fixed that for you.
  8. And he's also out of the game after throwing 102 pitches. Walked 5. Ohman in to finish the 6th.
  9. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) By the way Prior has a NO HITTER going. There I said it. JINX And Prior was just taken out in the middle of the 6th inning. Without having given up a hit yet. Will Ohman is in.
  10. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Does Minnesota and Detroit rest there starters vs us? Um....not so much. PS Are we losing yet? Interesting that you ask that, given that Joe Mauer is sitting today. And Detroit is up 3-0 on Cleveland in the 7th (Verlander against Captain Cheeseburger) so in a sense, we're already losing more ground.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Why would they bomb UN targets on purpose? Could it be that the Hezzies are running around under the UN moniker? Hmmm. If you really wanted to, I'm sure we could come up with a dozen reasons why Israel might have an urge to hit a UN station on purpose. Convince the U.N. that the zone isn't safe and their people should pull out (a-la Iraq) so that Israel has more of a free hand, delay/hurt negotiations by hardening the opinions of both sides, cut off foreign aid supply conduits to those still trapped in the south, etc. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Annan is terrible. When is his term up? Does he even have a set term? I knew this stuff at one point but have forgotten and am too lazy at the moment to look for it. There will be a new U.N. chief early next year. It's almost certain, IMO, to be someone the U.S. likes even less than Annan. Bolton has already said he's not going to do any sort of campaigning, because having him support any candidate would be the kiss of death for that candidate.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) And Cintron can rest Uribe who cant hit. Uribe is 12/23 in his career with 3 home runs against Silva.
  13. Detroit puts a 3 spot on Captain Cheeseburger in the 6th inning. Verlander with a shutout through 5. 3-0 Detroit. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) I was almost positive Granderson must have hurt himself on that inside the park homer..luckily he didn't. It was nice to see Colon pitch well, and Inge made a nice play at 3rd. Granderson out of the lineup today, but inserted in the bottom of the 6th.
  14. Minnesota's backup catcher is hitting .339.
  15. Podsednik, LF Cintron, 2b Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Pierzynski, C Crede, 3b Mackowiak, CF Uribe, SS I flippin hate this lineup. Anderson is 3/5 against Silva with a dong this season. Iguchi is 3/5 against him. Cintron is 0/4. Mack is 1/2. Castillo, 2b Punto, 3b Redmond, C Cuddyer, RF Morneau, 1B White, LF Rabe, DH Tyner, CF Bartlett, SS
  16. The Royals also moved Tony Graffanino to the Brewers for pitcher Jorge De La Rosa. Linky.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) They should get back quality prospects. Tell me what contender is going to move young, cheap, quality players so they can acquire an aging, slow, beat up, poor defensive shortstop who makes $13 million? The Orioles are going nowhere with Tejada. They have some nice young pitching in their farm system, but no one who is ready now, and probably not ready to pitch well next year either. A slow, beat up shortstop? The guy's hitting .329 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs this season. Tell me what team is going to move a shortstop putting up those kind of numbers if they're not getting back something incredibly valuable in return? What sort of prospect level would you expect them to get back in return for moving a guy like that? If I'm baltimore, I'm demanding something along the lines of a potential #1 starter next year, or a potential all star within 2 years, or something like that. There's no reason to dump that guy unless it's going to make you better immediately or it's going to make you vastly better in 2-3 years.
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) After the Israelis accidentally hit a U.N. bunker in Lebanon, Kofi Annan throws fuel on the fire by calling the attack "deliberate." Way to go, Kofi! That's the type of leadership that we need from the U.N. Link Not saying he's right, but it's worth asking; how exactly do you know it was an accident?
  19. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) CLee has great D? Are you serious? He throws lollypops back to the infield, doesn't cover much ground. You might be able to say he has very few errors, but that goes for any OF. In terms of qualified Left Fielders playing defense, here are your bottom 5 in MLB (in order):
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) You're right. Pods, Ozuna, and Cintron are "slowish power hitters." Considering that I don't think any of them have stolen a base in the last week, that must be what they are, because they're not acting like speed guys.
  21. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) If you want to talk about FO's wanting too much, you can look no further than Baltimore. Forget getting any players worth a damn from Peter Angelos. The Tigers recently inquired about Tejada, and were told they would need to be willing to include Verlander or Bonderman to even enter the discussion. What a joke that franchise is now. And it used to be so solid. Why exactly does Baltimore need to get rid of Tejada without getting back a potential star? Its not like he has a bad contract, it's not like he's currently begging to leave. If they add a few arms around him, he could be a key part of building a really good team there.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Yes. I don't think he's healthy, in fact I don't think he's been healthy for the last 11 months, which is why the Soriano chatter makes sense. If he's healthy, then either he's not in good shape or his brain just isn't there. 0 steals in the last week, 5 in July altogether.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Good point. However, I seem to recall some dissatisfaction with Sandy's game calling and/or CERA his last time around with the Sox. Well, the alternative for comparison at the time was Miguel Olivo...so...
