QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:24 AM) Hillary! joins the Joementum Interesting how that story, like quite a few others, points out that Hillary and Bill are both supporting Lieberman in the primary, but they leave out the other key fact...they've both pledged to support whoever wins the primary when they run in the general, regardless of whether or not Joe runs as an independent. (There are at least a few people who are wondering if Bill and Hillary may have made Joe not running as an independent if he loses a precondition for their open support in the primary, but that's just speculation, even if it would make sense.)

Mason-Dixon poll on the Tennessee race. Ford does have one advantage in that he's outraised all 3 of his potential GOP opponents combined, so he has the cash to make up some ground.

I think a very interesting part of this matter is the fact that the Bush Administration has known about the plant the Pakistanis were building for quite some time, but Congress only found out this week, and not from the White House.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:24 AM) KW always makes trades on Wednesdays it seems Except when he's dealing for Mike MacDougal? Or Sandy Alomar Jr.?

Only 2 players that I really want for leadoff

Carl Crawford will require, by all accounts, Brandon McCarthy to be moved. Tampa has asked for Ervin Santana + one of the Angels other studs for him, and without getting that, they just said no thanks. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:29 AM) So this the type of team we got away from in '05? Of the 8 regular postion players, 7 of them were regulars last year. Anderson replaced Rowand in CF. Then the addition of Thome as DH to replace Everett or Thomas. Where is the big change over that mad us go from a scrappy small ball time to a bunch of slow thumpers? It happened in Scott Podsednik's legs.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:14 AM) Actually, I think that most people are calling him not an upgrade. And that isn't because of one game with the Sox. That is basically because 1. He was done being a decent major league player about 3 years ago. 2. He was only good enough to be the Rockies #3 catcher. 3. He's about 47 years old now. 4. His hitting and defensive skills have deteriorated to approximately the level of your average American Legion baseball player. But he is a great clubhouse guy! 2 points. First, Alomar was the Dodgers' Number 3 catcher, not the Rockies'. Secondly, I think a lot of people are forgetting one of the other things that this whole board was going after Widger for...his pitch calling. Remember all those discussions of his Catcher ERA this year? Remember how people were complaining about him only calling pitches away and never going inside? There are more ways to make improvements than just by finding a bat off the bench.

I for one think a better metaphor for right now is the 03 White Sox of the first half. Not good enough pitching to cope with a struggling offense.

49 pitches for Jose through 3, 51 pitches for Santana through 3. At least we're making Johan work for it.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Cmon BA. Hit a HR before the 9th inning. Given who he's facing today, I'd settle for a single. Well fathom, there's your first pitch swinging.
-
49 pitches for Jose through 3 innings. He's laboring somewhat.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) Uribe went out and got that first pitch fastball. It will be interesting if we change our approach as the game goes on. Time for an Alomar flare. When does Uribe not try and go out to get the first pitch fastball?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) It looks like we're taking until we get a strike. Santana's just going to throw first pitch fastball, and our hitter will be down in the count. We've tried to work the count against Santana in the past, and he'd make it to the 7th giving up like one run. Yeah, but when we've tried not being patient, and swinging at either the first or second pitch, Santana will make it to the 9th inning and give up 1 run.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) Tigers remind me of the Sox last season... no lead is safe... Actually with the Sox last year, plenty of leads were safe, because we didn't have the offense that could catch up. We just didn't give up many leads that were bigger that what our offense could do.

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Well, reason for optimism, 1 run and I think Santana threw over 20 pitches that inning. Hawk, "we've had some lefties that havent hit Santana well over the years." Thats something of an understatement How would he know? Last year we barely had any lefties who even faced Santana. Ozzie always went with his all-righty lineup as far as I can remember.
-
Johan threw 21 pitches that inning. Jose, 17.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Dont get cocky over the solo homer in the first. We have hit solo homers off of Johan before. If I recall correctly, back in 04, Carlos Lee hit a 2 out homer in the first in a Santana vs. Garland game, and that was all Garland needed.
-
QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) See, I told you Johan has been hittable over his last few starts Wow, Johan sporting a 4.91 ERA in July in 4 starts before tonight.

Cleveland just picked up another to make it 8-3. Hafner up with a man on 2nd.
-
Thome 1. Santana 0.

Contreras isn't exactly Buehrle when it comes to holding runners on, not eveyrhting is on Alomar. Alomar keeps the WP total at 0 today and I'll be happy with his defense.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Can we have a mulligan? It's amazing to see what you can accomplish when you don't bunt a run over early in the game. Because the games where we haven't tried to bunt runners over early...we've scored so many runs in those too.
-
So, it's Buehrle tomorrow to try to stop the sweep eh?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) The Royals seem to be making some decents moves of late, I wonder who will overpay for Sanders. Sadly for the Royals, I don't think anyone will. He's hurt until after the deadline. There's a chance for a waiver deadline deal with him. And the reason they're making decent moves all of a sudden is almost certainly their new GM.

QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) I'm pretty sure the Sox value Anderson over all other names mentioned in all the rumors. Hopefully, except for McCarthy. If I'm in KW's seat, you hold a gun up to the 2 and ask me which one gets to live and I start putting together packages to get myself a new Center Fielder.
