You have angered the Giolito with this suggestion. The shutout will now extend into inning 7. -

I would really, really hate to burn a full year of service time in this format, and I'd hate to lose games in a competitive season because we feel compelled to play a "top prospect" if we're not 100% sure he's ready. If you're not sure the guy is ready and you have other options you prefer, let the guy work on his OF technique in Arizona or whatever. It's just 1 game, but come on, if you're calling up the top draft pick, play him opening day. -

Nats. They had a positive test yesterday and 5 people under "contact tracing" quarantine. https://www.mlb.com/nationals/news/nationals-covid-test-results -

Then he shouldn't be on the active roster. -

Vaughn in LF unless you think he can't play there, Collins either catching or DHing. If that's your lineup, let the guys have their opening day moment. -

Even if it works for today, it still feels really dirty to call the kid up and not play him on his first opening day. Play matchups tomorrow. If the kid's a starter, let him hear his name get announced on opening day. -
Garrett Crochet conversion to starter in 2022 Thread

Even if that's true he should have gotten a much larger guarantee for giving up 2 years of free agency after already being established. The comparison here is literally Tatis - both #1 prospects, Moncada had played 2 1/3 seasons while Tatis had played 2, Moncada literally had more WAR accumulated when signing his deal than Tatis, Tatis got $300 million guaranteed and Moncada got $70. But that's enough derailing this thread. -

In general I like playing the strategy. I think what the Padres did with Tatis was extremely bold, I think Yoan Moncada's agent is a fool, the extensions for Eloy and Robert were interesting and creative, the idea that Giolito was going to sign a 5 year deal was silly, etc. -

Yeah, if someone goes down long-term. If it's TJS for someone, well yeah you send Kopech down for 2-3 weeks to get stretched out. If Keuchel's back is spasming so you put him on the IL, you're not going to stretch Kopech out for that. Then that injury drags on for a few weeks longer than you thought it would, and suddenly it's July and Kopech is still pitching an inning every 4 or 5 days. -

I'm saying in general it's a bad idea, it can work sometimes but it's not smart, and the scenario with both Crochet and Kopech makes it even less likely to succeed here. Many pitchers have been put in the bullpen and never come out of it. -

Still, there's something disheartening about having a kid make the big league roster after working his whole life to be there, being a top 3 draft pick, surviving 2020, shifting positions because the team asked him to, and then...not getting the chance to run out onto the field before the first inning on opening day. -

My problem with that statement is that Kopech is not streched out at all. If someone goes down for under 3 weeks, there's literally not enough time to get him ready to pitch 5 innings. If that happens maybe they even send him down to get his work in, and give Lopez or Stiever 3 starts while Kopech stretches out for 4 innings. If it is "oh Rodon's shoulder is sore, we're going to put him on the 10 day IL", they'll use Lopez for 1 start and Mr. Offday for another. -

No, it's not a grand conspiracy. It's a sucker bet. You might get lucky and win once, and convince yourself it's a great idea because it didn't go terribly. You do it a few times and the casino takes your house. -

You continue to do an excellent job for explaining why this decision likely leaves him permanently in the bullpen. -
Is there any chance that she actually had the virus at some point last year, so this is the immune system acting like it's dose #2?

ELOY HURT! (3/25 Update: Torn Pectoral Tendon, Out 5-6 months))
Balta1701 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because Eloy is on the White Sox's injured list, he could be activated at any point and still be eligible for the playoffs. He could be activated after the Wild Card round and still be eligible for an ALDS. They would need an open 40 man roster spot to activate him at that point. In theory yes you would like to give this player a significant minor league stint after this injury, at least several games long. However, if the minor leagues are over by that point, they will find enough action for him somewhere to get ready - that's what happened famously with Kyle Schwarber, for example. So if he's healthy, they will do what they can to get him back into the lineup. Whether or not he can be effective in that scenario is unknown. However, I will note that if Charlotte makes the AAA playoffs in early September, having Eloy come back in the AAA playoffs for a few games is a fun little cheat code. -

Llet's not forget - the jump from 71 innings to 192 in 2012 almost didn't happen. Sale had arm soreness and went on the IL for a month in late April, and had to overturn a table yelling at Kenny Williams to get back into the rotation after they publicly announced he was the closer permanently. Chris Sale shows that this plan was on a knife edge, and had Williams not gone along with Sale's tantrum - Moncada is starting at 2b for Boston today. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ct-xpm-2012-05-15-sns-rt-bbo-white-sox-playerwatchmtze85f1bw1s7-20120515-story.html -
White Sox are still a World Series Contender
Balta1701 replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Look, I get that the “Hahn had a crappy offseason no he didn’t” debate is played out, but this was on topic, related to a different team, brought up by another poster, and my reply referenced a specific stat. In response, the same poster added a couple more baseball topic posts. If you want to play topic police in every thread, then yeah we need to know which subjects are out of bounds, because otherwise I’ll keep accidentally talking about baseball. -

Is there an official guide somewhere about which opinions it’s ok to say over and over and which aren’t? Obviously it’s ok to repeatedly say Cleveland is rebuilding but out of bounds to disagree when people repeat that point. I’d appreciate knowing where this list can be found. -

I’ve said it before and will say it again. Cleveland’s projected win total right now is higher than it was in February of 2020. If you’re expecting them to be a pushover, I think your awakening will be unpleasant. -

And yet, you gotta admit it feels like the classic too clever by half “I will hit my pitcher 8th” LaRussa, doesn’t it?
