Cubs, White Sox, & Red Sox scouting Juan Gone
Balta1701 replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
So, last year, when Cleveland signed him, suddenly they became a trendy pick for the AL Central. If we sign him, does that make those same peopel who picked Cleveland into chisox backers? -
Shame it's not after 2000.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Very true. Thank god vicious criminals have someone to look out for them. Too bad their victims dont. :rolly Yes, because there is no such thing as a "Victim's rights" organization.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) I'll be curious to see how the process goes, but at this point, there seems to be no end to the speculation. Now I just hope they don't go out and lay down @ Illinois tomorrow. Something tells me you shouldn't get your hopes up.

Rosenthal's best and worst moves of the offseason
Balta1701 replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) Hmm ok. Guess they think we overpaid for Konerko and Garland based on last year and that Thome is done. If that were the case...then we'd have appeared on the "Worst" list. Somehow I get the feeling that those moves will turn out to be the best ones of the offseason, even better than the Vazquez deal. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) The Reds can't afford to get rid of decent pitching. Hancock was listed at 6'3", 207 pounds so if he gained 17 pounds he's still only 224 pounds. 6'3", 224 pounds is hardly overweight. Another team will pick him up in no time. Dude, it's the Reds. 1 decent pitcher with major health problems is not going to suddenly save their season. Otherwise I'm sure the Cubs would let them have Kerry Wood for a song.

That's the same day Mulder discovered that the aliens would return to take over the earth! He must be right! Can i be the first to say that this is your brain, this is your brain on the juice?

Woo-Hoo. Good job Ozzie doing the absolute 100% correct thing. Mark...GET YOURSELF THAT DAMN AWARD THIS YEAR. For all of us. We've been waiting a few years to see you get it. You know which one I'm talking about. The only questions, of course, are how many runs the Sox will give Buehrle in support of his shutout, and how long the game will last.

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) On this case I have to agree with Minors in cases where there was such a disrespect for human life, I can't have much sympathy for him. I also had no idea it costs $92 dollars a day to house an inmate. This has really made me take a look at capital punishment Did it make you rethink capital punishment in that you're now more supportive of it or more in opposition to it? I don't have the numbers right now (And i'm on dial-up, so I'm a little too lazy to run through Google) but I'm fairly certain that in almost every case it costs massively more to put an inmate through the death penalty procedures than it does to just jail them for life, because in part of all the legal filings associated with death penalty cases, the extra guards, the arrangements, etc.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Right, because you are so much smarter than college coaches, administrators and fans of IU's program. After having gone to IU and dealt with their administration...well...that might not be a huge accomplishment.

Did they redesign the hats for this year? I don't remember the white/silver bills from any game I watched last year. Are those ST only?

I think at the $400-$500 range, you're really closing in on pricing a lot of people out of the market. I was actually considering getting a new system to replace the old Super Nintendo (yes you read that right) now that the Fiancee's employed, and since hopefully in the next year or so I'll be getting a new TV, but hell, if the PS3 costs more than a brand new PC, there aint' a chance in hell I'd buy one of those.

Anybody know if/when/where NBC might be carrying that event? -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Having dealt with Evan Bayh for waaaaaaaaay too many years, I think he is someone who could emerge for the Dems, but I don't think that they will have someone from Indiana at the top of their ticket. Bayh could be an interesting pick for Veep, and has the potential to swing a very Repub state to the Dems. Well, if you can chime into this thread, so can I. I wouldn't put it past Bayh to win the nomination honestly, in sort of the way that Kerry did. If it seriously comes down to a primary based on "Electability", which was the buzzword that a large majority of the people voting for Kerry in early primaries cited in exit polls...it may well come down to Bayh versus Warner (former Virginia governor). Edwards might have a shot in this vein also, but I think being out of office since 04 and having only served 1 term in the Senate may hurt him. On the other hand, I don't think even Bayh could swing Indiana to the Dems. Usually you can tell whether the Republicans are going to win the Presidency by whether or not Indiana goes to the Repub candidate by 20% or 10%. Even though he's from Indiana, he'd have a harder task of winning his home state than Gore did in 2000.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else see the title "Scott Eyre rips sox" and think that maybe he should buy higher quality foot coverings with all the money the Cubs gave him?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2334371 Still don't want him, but it'd be kind of funny if all this press on him causes Iowa to choke away the Big Ten. You know, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...might discourage people from hiring him.
