QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) f*** that...can they tell us where PK ends up? Can I get odds on that in Vegas?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) That s*** doesn't make sense. 2006 hasn't come yet. Can that web page tell us who wins the super bowl this year?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) Go duhon... http://www.nba.com/blog/blog42.html Does anyone else smile every time they hear something about how good the personalities of some of our current Chicago teams are? And how they keep winning while at the same time getting along as good groups of people?

Blue Jays Make $55 Million Offer To Giles?
Balta1701 replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) So does this push up the market for Paulie? http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiretap_...offer_to_giles/ The only things which push up the Market for PK are the GM's of the Angels and the Orioles. We're looking at a guy on a totally different level from Giles. Beat those 2 teams and we've got ourselves a lineup. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) So you suddenly think all the pitching success in atlanta will come to a hault? I surely don't. Bobby cox is not just sitting there acting pretty. I am sure he knows a thing or two about the game. It won't ground to a hault of course...not when they have guys like Hudson and Smoltz. However, here's the real question...last year, they were able to pick up Jorge Sosa from the D-Rays for practically nothing and turn him into a key starter. They've been doing this for years - Jaret Wright, Neagle, etc...they all improved dramatically in Atlanta, and several of them fell apart shortly after leaving. Mazzone had a specific system for how he worked his pitchers and how he worked on their mechanics. That system is in Baltimore now. Atlanta has a lot of pitching problems...their bullpen was atrocious last year, and Hampton is out for the full of this season. They need help with that staff. So now we get to see whether or not Cox can really work miracles with a staff on his own.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Marte now becomes more valuable? Well, that all depends on how large FA contracts translate to prospects. That, I don't think we know.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) If Blondie's good enough, Yoko oughta join next. And that's not in green. She ruined the Plastic Ono Band.

If PK was willing to trade a no-trade clause for less money in a contract, would you guys give him the no-trade clause?
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) If the braves were able to retain him that streak would have likely ended. Leo Mazzone is in baltimore.

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Marte has never hit 99 in his life unless the radar gun was off. When he is going good he hits 95-96 with all his fastballs and can pop a 97 mile an hour fastball up there. If marte is washed up or not ( i still think he will outproduce eyre next year for less money) picking up marte was a great move by williams. He was already passed up by a couple teams when williams got him. There were definately times he was popping 95-96 this year. It certainly wasn't every game, but it wasn't a rare occurence either. -
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I wouldn't say he is overrated, it is just people expected more out of him after 2004. For under a $1 million a year he is a steal for a guy with a lifetime BA of .285, OBP of .373, and averages of 15 HR and 75 RBI a year. When does he hit Free Agency? It seems the Brewers have been hitting him with a series of 1 year deals. Reportedly the Blue Jays have also shown some interest in him, but Milwaukee's asking price was too high. (They asked for pitcher Dustin McGowan)

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) He blew the most important game of the season for the Braves in Houston. I think he gave up like 5 runs. Imagine how bad he will meltdown in the NY spotlight. Hey, some surprising guys can handle NY pretty well... who would have thought that Chacon and Small would have come out in pinstripes and performed like they did last year?

The last 6 years...Farnsworth has gone: Bad year Good year Bad year Good year Bad year Good year. ERA's those years: 6.43 2.74 7.33 3.30 4.73 2.19 I think he's pretty well set to put up a higher number next year.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) But we'll see. Best scenario would still be one where Damaso's back. Both the "best scenario" and whether or not we'd be better without Marte depend a ton on what we can get in a trade involving Marte. That's really the key to this whole discussion. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) I just have to post it for my assurance. These rumors are starting to scare me. I really want PK back. As do I...for about a week now I've had my heart set on having the 2nd best 3-4 combo in the big leagues, and that just doesn't work without PK. We lose PK, and offensively I think we're right where we were last year, and that's assuming that Thome stays healthy. Konerko + Rowand + Everett (and a whiff of Thomas) ~ Thome + Anderson in his 1st year + Gload or some combination of cheap Free agents and moved people, in my opinion.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Tim Kurkjian still thinks PK comes back. At this point, the only 2 who really matter are KW and JR.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) For a guy who hadn't pitched forever, and had gone through what he had gone through, he was very impressive. Those walks meant nothing, and Buerhle wasn't brought in because of ineffectiveness. Why is it I remember being really pissed off at the ump that inning? I get the feeling I remember Marte was being squeezed quite a bit. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) I just dont understand why people are so behind Marte. He has had two above average seasons since 2003, and looks like a completley different pitcher than he was in 2003. On top of all that, from all reports he isnt the most well recieved player on the team. What makes you think Marte can get back to 2003 form? What has he shown you to tell you that? Well, if nothing else, last year he had games where he was just as dominant as he was in 2003. All he was doing different was following through on his pitches nad throwing strikes. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Last time I checked, its perfectly legal for Irvin to take a drug test. What kind of legal issue is he checking on? This is a guy who was caught with the pipe on him. Maybe it isn't is, but his story would make anyone wonder. If he really wanted to clear his name, taking a test immediately probably would be the best thing to do, unless he just wants a few days to flush his system. Presumably there could be a risk of him being charged with something along the lines of obstruction of justice if he insists he did nothing, possibly testifies as to that point, and then takes a drug test which proves the opposite.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Besides the colts is the AFC really that good? I mean the Patriots are a shell of their former self and that division is by far the worse in the NFL yes worse than the NFC North. The Bengals are pretty good but are they really better than all of the NFC playoff teams and the Steelers have looked pretty bad this season although they have had QB injuries(like we havent ). Than the Jaguars really arent all that good especially now since Leftwich is out. Even with Leftwich I dont really consider them better than the Bears... Denver has looked really good this season and are either the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NFL but KC is far from impressive and Chargers are a good team but against other good teams they have lost all their games(Dallas, Denver, Pitts, and Eagles with D-Mac). The Chargers are vastly better than their record - some of their losses have to come down to poor coaching - there's got to be a reason why they keep coming down to the end of games with the lead and losing them. KC May be more impressive than you think, depending on injuries.

It's just not right if Texas doesn't get the chance to hit that milestone.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) I read your linked summary. Didn't find the whole speech. Didn't see any plan. Does Joe have a plan? What is Joe's plan? His plan is to win, just like our President. We won't retreat - that'd be a victory for the terrorists. We'll stay until we win. (No, I don't know what "Winning" over there means either).
