Latrell Sprewell prepared to sit the season

At some point, people in sports are going to start realizing that causing your team to self destruct over your contract is not the best thing for your wallet. -
If you were the Colts...
Balta1701 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I understand why it's being debated...the Colts have a chance to do something that has happened exactly 1 time in NFL History. That's a chance that doesn't come around every day. I don't know what I'd do if I were in the Colts' situation. I mean, obviously Manning shouldnt' take a snap against Arizona...the big question is how much you try to win that Chargers game. -
Plasticman? He's still in the league?!

A couple years ago...South Park did an "April Fools" joke episode...they were supposed to reveal who Cartman's father was, and then when the episode was supposed to air, it opened with an "April Fools...that episode will not be seen tonight" and they aired a different episode instead. The fan reaction was so angry that they had to rush to finish up the Cartman's father episode to air it the next week. That's about how I felt after last night's "Ending".

Of course, that number 10,000 is actually half of the military's last estimate of the total number of constantly active insurgents in Iraq, and that estimate was made nearly a year ago...and that doesn't include those many folks who give aid to the insurgents or who support their actions or who are willing to endorse violence against the Americans to get them to leave (like the Iraqi government for example.)

Rose not on Hall's ballot in final year
Balta1701 replied to Milkman delivers's topic in The Diamond Club
Pete Rose should be on the HOF Ballot as soon as Shoeless Joe gets on there. -
Here is the LAT piece on the Angels' PK Offer. PK Earned that 5th year in the playoffs. If we don't beat that there's something wrong with us.

I think the only good explanation for why the Angels seem to be silent is that they have to be seriously spending time on Manny. They have so many other holes that they need to fill and the money to fill them that I find it quite surprising that they're still quiet. Hopefully the fact that they're being quiet will give KW the time he needs to get something done with PK. One thing about the Angels...when they write deals with people, the deals they write seem like smart deals at the time, unlike some of the stuff we've seen lately. Even the Finley deal, which blew up in their faces, looked good at the time it was written. I don't see the Angels giving Konerko an obscene deal, because I don't see the Angels giving anyone an "Obscene" deal. They seem like they know what they're doing. And furthermore, they still have youth on the way up which can play 1b, and plugging in a young guy there would help them free up money to spend on other spots. They did it with Percival, Glaus, etc, I find it hard to imagine them doing the exact opposite with PK.

The Angels also need a catcher unless they want the backup Molina to fill that role...and probably an upgrade at DH after last year.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) On a different note, on the Sox WS DVD anderson screams like a little girl when PODS hits the Walk off HR. He sounds like puberty has not quite hit, makes for some good comedy. Also, since he recognized that PODS's shot was a goner off the bat, and it took A-row about 5 seconds, shows that Anderson is better at judging hits than A-row. I saw that clip that night and have been quoting it ever since. Replayed it like a dozen times...their reactions are just absolutely freaking classic. BA with the "OH MY GOD!", Rowand responds with "No way, No, No Way" and then the ball lands.

QUOTE(The Bones @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I think they moved it to Atlanta. My favorite suggestion so far is the Manute Bowl. I'm glad someone got it.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Not true. if that had been offered it would be in one of the papers here or on the radio. I've been amazed at how little talk there seems to have been regarding Konerko out here, or any FA's for that matter.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) no i never said i wanted him in Center Field but it wouldn't be the worse thing. Well, see, that probably depends on how you define the "worst thing". If the worst thing is some sort of nuclear holocaust, or having to watch Gigli, then yeah, it's not the worst thing.

The thing that really pissed me off about Ordonez was that I felt like he was lying to me. Magglio Ordonez said repeatedly that he wanted to stay with the White Sox throughout 2004. However, when the time came that the Sox could actually have made a decision on him...he refused to give the Sox any access to him. Ordonez refused to be examined or work out for anyone until after the arbitration deadline had come and gone. Since he would have made around $14 million in 05 had he gone to arbitration, the Sox couldn't have possibly offered him arbitration without at least getting a look at his knee. It was that moment that he proved to me he was lying to me every other time he said he wanted to come back - that meant he didn't even want to receive an offer from the Sox, even if it turned out to be the best offer he got.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) The link you just gave us has completely different numbers then you're seeing. How in the world can that be? Cutting and pasting: (sorted on the runs column, this is the bottom of the list, at that same ESPN Park factor link) Rk Park Name Runs HR H 2B 3B BB 21 Shea Stadium (Mets) 0.889 0.994 0.946 0.860 0.951 0.963 22 Comerica Park (Tigers) 0.865 0.749 1.005 0.762 2.194 0.919 23 RFK Stadium (Nationals) 0.860 0.775 0.851 0.888 1.051 0.953 24 Safeco Field (Mariners) 0.854 0.793 0.926 0.838 1.091 1.123 25 PETCO Park (Padres) 0.837 0.691 0.895 0.895 1.519 1.046 26 Dodger Stadium (Dodgers) 0.825 0.988 0.894 0.719 0.485 1.031 27 Angel Stadium (Angels) 0.818 0.612 0.828 0.925 0.292 0.825 28 McAfee Coliseum (Athletics) 0.703 0.622 0.678 0.686 0.407 0.594 29 Turner Field (Braves) 0.655 0.756 0.689 0.773 0.526 0.613 30 Bank One Ballpark (Diamondbacks) 0.540 0.477 0.553 0.644 1.278 0.559

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) ??? Do you know how to read these park factors? Oakland had 1.2% more runs scored than the average park, and had almost 9% more HRs than the average park. RFK had 14% fewer runs scored, and 22% fewer HRs than the average park. I'm not totally sure how to read the numbers...but somehow I think you and I have to be looking at different numbers. In 2005, when I sort by "runs scored", McAfee is ranked 28th...and RFK is ranked 23rd. Coors field is naturally ranked first. By just that metric, the way I'm looking at the data...McAfee gave up fewer runs on average than RFK. I guess I have to be wrong somewher,e but I don't see where that comes out of the numbers I'm seeing at all.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) RFK is an extreme pitchers park and his numbers on the road were pretty brutal. That plus going back to the AL, I fully expect his era to be right around 5. Well, at least last year...Washington was probably a better hitting park than Oakland, at least if you take the park factor points without analysis

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) The human mind has an amazing capacity for deceit. Here’s Duke back in July assuring his constituents of his blamelessness and wagging his finger at the the media for good measure. When you've pocketed several million dollars...you've got a real incentive to become a good liar.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Only the Republicans do that. Get it right. Can we at least agree that the Republicans are a lot better at it than the Democrats?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) You say that like its a bad thing. From being out here in California where we keep having idiotically called special elections every few months it seems...yeah it is a bad thing. If there's such a thing as election fatigue, this state is seeing it right now.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) I heard part of "Duke" Cunningham's tearful public announcement of his mea culpa and resignation today on the radio. The leech actually managed to work in a reference to his Vietnam service. Taking bribes during wartime to help secure DOD contracts. What a wonderful caretaker of the military.
