If this deal went through...it would probably make the Cubs a better team. But then again...how difficult is it to improve on a season when you finish behind the rapidly improving Brewers? Hopefully, John Hart is smart enough to rake the Cubs over the coals a little bit if they're going to get Soriano off of the Rangers along with other bats. He could have gotten a ton from a team like the Twinkies for Soriano during last season if he was willing to move him.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) I can't remember the exact reason, but I know I heard all of last year that the Blue Jays were going to make a major jump in payroll this offseason, but like I said, for the life of me I can't remember the reason they're able to do it now. They were also the hot team involved with A.J. Burnett at 4/50... I wonder if this changes this or not... The Toronto Area was getting really mad about the team not spending money, so they basically guaranteed to spend a total of $200 million in 2005-2007 on players.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) I've been suggesting that when Frank is done playing that he become the hitting coach for the team. He was only one of the best hitters in all of baseball, so he may know a thing or to about hitting. This is not a bad idea, as he's been known to help other guys on the team with hitting even this year (Uribe)

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) vegas would work for about two years max and then the novelty would wear off, they will not have a core fanbase, it would basically be a sideshow for whoever is visitng to see a baseball game. mlb just has to face the fact that they expanded to cities who can't support an mlb franchise and the best bet is probably to just leave the marlins in florida, even if cities like charlotte, vegas, and portland don't have teams, it would be the same show as florida. Vegas would sell tickets like crazy from all of the Casinos buying them up to give as gifts/comps to their highest rollers. Doesn't mean that they'd be a great place for a team, but they'd have an audience, I'm sure of that. Anywho...I wonder how Florida would draw if they actually were in a decent stadium. Think Cleveland before the Jake.

Why the Heck isn't Superstation WGN broadcasting Bulls games on saturday night this year?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) Hell part of me is flat out excited that I'll get to see two different prospects develop next year (Bmac some more and BAnd). Also...don't forget that we are running a 25 year old closer out there, and I think he's still eligible for a ROY award next year.

Back in the 1970's, when the FBI and the Pentagon were allowed to look into the activites of any and all Americans...the government got completely out of control with this power. It's how we got things like FBI files on John Lennon, Government Agents traveling to Bloomington Indiana to organize anti-war protests just to get the names of those who would show up, etc. The government just keeps claiming more and more power in the war on terror without any real checks or balances. And I don't trust the Executive branch enough to let them just keep choosing to expand their own power. I wouldn't trust a Democratic Executive Branch to make its own rules, and I don't trust a Republican one to do so either. WaPo link.

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) only til jan 8th If KW doesn't get the Konerko deal done well before Jan 8th either someone made PK an offer we weren't going to match or KW has just lost his mind. The time after the Konerko signing should be spent doing some combo of sitting down with a few agents to avoid arbitration with people and exploring wierd, exotic deals of the sort that brought us AJ and Iguchi last year - guys nobody expected us to get until we got them.

QUOTE(Pods20 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) i have seen in multiple places that gio is not involved. There is a player to be named later but how do we know this is gio? There was some doubt at first, but it's Gio.

QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) I assume that will be timo and borchard. I don't know about anyone else...but my desire to see Timo Perez on this team again is very very low. No offense to all those "Clutch" hits and everything...I just don't want Ozzie to have the opportunity to play him any more.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) It seems Microsoft is just trying to be the industry leader with the 360, rather than try to make money off it as it stands. And if one company could afford to do it, it is Microsoft. "It seems Microsoft is just trying to be the industry leader with their internet browser, rather than try to make money off it as it stands. As bad as his poll numbers are out here...it would not surprise me at all if he did.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) I do think Borchard will end up being the fourth outfielder. We don't really need a fifth outfielder since Ozuna can play there. But I really hope we don't re-sign Timo. He'd be a waste of another million dollars. I agree. We've already paid Borchard's signing bonus and we're not getting it back...so he's basically the cheapest bench option possible, and even if he hits .200 next year, how exactly would that be worse than Timo? At least a few of Borchard's might leave the yard, and there's always the chance that he'll hit .260 and start making himself look like something people would actually want in a trade.

Someone better find a way to get Aaron in Chicago on day 2 of the regular season next year.
-
One of the first games Carl played the outfield this year was against the Indians. He was out in left field while Podsednik was resting his legs - a tweaked Hammy or something. He slammed into the wall and knocked himself out of the game...think he wound up needing a couple days off form that.

My lord....wow...Bobby Jenks's value suddenly tripled. Toronto's writing worse contracts than Detroit or New York. Wow.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Is Ortiz half the hitter Vlad is without Manny? Ortiz always looked like an inconsistent but monstrous hitter in Minnesota...I recall very well him hitting a homer with a broken hand back in 01 or 02. He loses the protection, and how is he going to fair? Ortiz was one heck of a hitter the last 2 years hitting I believe behind Manny for much of the time.

Mike Sweeney seems like he is always "Available" in the sense that his name is up in trade talks every single year. No one ever acquires him, despite the fact that teams coudl really really use him (Think: The Angels as a DH Last year, for example). Either KC isn't really willing to trade him, or KC is asking way the heck too much given his health and contract status. As a team in KC's division, and given that we just traded some of our best ML pitching, I don't think Sweeney sounds like a very good option

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) true...plus sponsorship deals... touche` And after Farmer got to yell "It's a slam, Sox lead, 6 4, light it up!"...I can't think of any city where PK's going to be able to earn more in sponsorship deals than in the 3rd largest city in the country.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) ooh, could we confirm this?! encouraging as regards to fields...isn't he still struggling MIGHTILY with K's? Which I believe is why he's got at least 2 more years in the minor leagues before he's ready...which is why the fact that we've got Crede arbitration-eligible can be quite useful. Crede holds down the fort very well while Fields readies himself, and Crede hits FA maybe a year after Fields is ready to come up, maybe even giving us the chance to use Crede as trade bait. We hope.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) and more home runs = more money... but he's vying for the contract right now! He might still think about the cash he could get when he comes off of his 6th or 7th straight 40+ home run season.
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Isn't that the same thing they say about Crede too? Crede has a long and loopy swing when he's struggling. When he's hitting right...he's got as sweet of a swing as anyone on our team. September/October...great swing. May...August...he was flying off the ball.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) I'm tending to agree with that. Esp seeing how Pierre [and Dye] will be FA's after 2006. Giving up one of the OF prospects, after trading Arow, doesn't make a lot of sense. Someone like Josh Fields, Casey Rogowski though, I could see. With Boras being Crede's agent...I think that Fields may well be as close to untouchable as there is in our minor leagues now that BMac will be gunning for the Cy Young award.
