November 26, 200520 yr Blame the Cubs for overpaying. They're the ones who set the market. Goddamn though. That's way overpaying for Ryan. He makes as much as Rivera, does he not? BTW, a suggestion: Change the thread title to "B.J. Ryan Has a New Home, Car, Plane, Boat, Cousin..." or "That's One Expensive B.J." Edited November 26, 200520 yr by nitetrain8601
November 26, 200520 yr holy s***. He is going to have to perform at an elite level for 5 straight years to make that contract look good. They paid him like a position player
November 26, 200520 yr Well Toronto's got money to burn with the new ownership, and they could get A.J Burnett as well. At least he's not ending up in Cleveland. Oh, and this'll mean that Miguel Batista becomes available as well. And he'd be someone I'd go after for the pen, especially if Hermy couldn't pitch in 2006. Always good to have at least some closer experience other than Jenks.

November 26, 200520 yr I'd take Dotel at 3 years, 12 million over Ryan at 5/47 if I'm the small market Jays. Even if they land Burnett, they still desperately need sticks
November 26, 200520 yr that's a hella contract to take on, wow. The jays are going to have a solid team next year though.
November 26, 200520 yr That is a stupid move. Did the Jays re-hire Gord Ash and the rest of us not know it? Before last year, most people never heard of BJ. The guy has 42 career saves. In his career, he has not even done what Bobby Thigpen did in a year. Edited November 26, 200520 yr by Greg The Bull Luzinski
November 26, 200520 yr My lord....wow...Bobby Jenks's value suddenly tripled. Toronto's writing worse contracts than Detroit or New York. Wow.

Umm -- who cares about the saves. 12.50 Ks/9 the last two years. He's really good, no doubt, but just not this good.
November 26, 200520 yr Are we sure it's not 47 million CANADIAN dollars?? That would only be about 8 million American, and thus a shrewd deal.

November 26, 200520 yr And from this..... They appear poised to now deal their previous closer, Miguel Batista, and reportedly have had discussions with the Rangers about an exchange of Batista for outfielder Kevin Mench."
November 26, 200520 yr And from this..... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If that trade goes down, Batista would probably go back to starting for the Rangers.
November 26, 200520 yr Wasn't Kenny said to have been very interested in Batista at one point or another?? He would be a great addition IMO Edited November 26, 200520 yr by EvilJester99
