well that was fast.

Not really. If we're going to spend that much money on a primary catcher, I don't trust that Collins is going to be anything better than an 8th/9th hitter next year, at least not until proven so. I guess you can make me ok with it if you're signing Grandal and Stras and you have a good RF solution.
-
Yeah, if he's in a lower range than that, there's reason for him to think a better offer will show up. If he gets to that level, that might be the "Take it and be done with it" level.
-
As the last year has shown...once you get an offer you're ready to sign, there's a huge risk to waiting longer. If he's sitting there at $75 million offers...fine you wait. If someone puts 9 figures on the table...

Fizzled? If you go by the Futuresox list it was Micah Johnson in 2015, but that's only because of how weak our system was at the time.

LOL promotions and raises don't count.

Can you really suspend an entire 26 man roster?
-
Depending on investigation results, some version of a "Show-cause" penalty for the leadership. I don't know how to punish the players but there should be something. Fines to the players?
-
No but I don't see why the Mets would give up Nimmo without either Madrigal or Vaughn coming back from us, and Lopez and Dunning should be looked at as having very little value if you're trying to acquire a legit player. He's a first round talent who put together a nearly all star level 2018 season and who has 3 years of control remaining. Even if there's a roster crunch, you can always find room to play outfielders if you have to (See: the Dodgers). There is zero reason for them to trade him for scraps.
-
Nimmo has 3 years of control left, was a successful first round pick, was hurt for 1 year, and was a 4+ win player in 2018. If we traded a guy like that for a 4th starter even with some ceiling, I'd be very angry, unless the guys medicals were terrible. If we traded pre-2019 Rodon for a Lopez and a Dunning equivalent, I'd have assumed they thought Rodon was likely to get far worse and they needed to dump him before more injuries happened.
-
Assuming that other teams are likely to make bad moves is usually not a reasonable way to plan for these deals, but as long as from now on everyone says "And yes this deal is terrible for them but the Mets are stupid enough to do it" when they say something like that then I can't complain.
-
Maybe if the Mets know that Nimmo has a degenerative condition and won't ever play again.
-
So are you if you think the Mets would give up Nimmo for those 2.
-
Add in a Vaughn/Madrigal to those 2 and you've got something reasonable.
-
He's not worthless, he's worth more than a Mazara or a Polanco, but not a whole lot more than that. Seriously, what exciting player that can actually start are people thinking they'd get for him?
-
He should have some value but not enough to get anyone really of use. Seriously, attach a name that you think you could get with those 2?
-
Those are not particularly valuable trade chips. I literally don't know who you're thinking about with those, Reddick with the Astros paying half?
-
Will Chicago offer him the most money?
-
Remember how easily the White Sox wasted $40 million last offseason?

FS: Sox should inquire about NPB slugger Tsutsugo

Dude this is posting a Futuresox article. -
Conflicted? I'd be furious.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Balta1701 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes I do. I also believe they can compete in 2021 and for several years after, and am not willing to sacrifice those seasons on an "all-in" style campaign in 2020. -
So...Betts?

I would be genuinely unhappy with Leury as a full time starter in RF. I would have few issues with him being a platoon player.

It's not the worst option, but if you could legitimately get a .750 OPS out of Collins next year - you're spending premium bucks on Grandal not so that he can DH, you're spending that money on him because he can catch. If Collins looks like an ok option at catcher, you are better off giving Collins more at bats and using your money elsewhere, rather than putting $20 million/year into Grandal for many years. If Collins could give me a .750 OPS, then taking on JD Martinez suddenly makes a lot of sense.
