I think he's a top 10 receiver but I also think he works extremely well with Roethlisberger, who knows how to get him the ball in spots he can take advantage of. On games where Pittsburgh had to use their backup QB, you could see that Brown would get completely shut down because the QB wouldn't know to just trust AB to make a play the way Roethlisberger does. That QB would see heavy coverage near Brown on every play and just go elsewhere on plays where Roethlisberger would still force the ball to Brown. He's definitely still an elite receiver but I think there's a really good chance of a substantial dropoff in his numbers with a different QB, unless that QB puts in overtime to be comfortable with Brown...and that would require Brown to be willing to put in overtime working with the QB as well.

Rodon also didn't destroy the minors in his final year the way Adley is so far. His WHIP got worse his junior year, he pitched 30 fewer innings due to injury.

Who is your top 2019-20 free agent target

If his year next year matches 2018 he's probably good, maybe he even can just easily re-up with the Red Sox, but if he shows any dropoff next year, with other competing options on the market and limited numbers of DHs, he'd be at a huge risk of winding up with something like a 1-2 year deal if he were to opt out. Normally I'd be the conservative one and just stick with the established contract, especially with this market, but baseball players often surprise me by turning down qualifying offers when they should accept them, so I dunno. -

If he isn't shaping up for that kind of money then he shouldn't opt out. -

Just to be the jerk who points this out, Daniel Palka had a wrc+ of 109 last year in a rookie season, so while 135-130-120-115 over 4 years would be a clear and obvious upgrade if Palka did not improve, is it a $100 million upgrade? -

"Zion may not fit our current roster construction" is a very poor reason to draft someone else. If the Bulls wound up with that pick and were insistent that they were going to take a point guard, then some other team would probably give up 3 first round picks for that #1. I probably would. -

If you think Robert stays healthy this year then moving Anderson to CF in 2020 seems tantamount to moving him to the bench, because Robert looks like he'll destroy the minor leagues if he's healthy. He may not be up opening day 2020, but if he stays healthy it's hard to see him staying down for long that year. If you sign a SS, then either you are benching Anderson or you think Robert won't be healthy. -
He wanted the total dollar value to be higher than Giancarlo and sacrificed AAV and any opt outs to do it.

I would think he's much more likely to be a valuable player if he can raise his defense at SS up to very good, which he was on path to doing the 2nd half of last year, but if he can't do that then perhaps that does leave him as a utility player. -

The real answer about the biggest contract they will sign next offseason is Jose Abreu. -

If our pitching is struggling to the point we need a #1 starter and we need a SS and we're going to shift the 2 WAR SS to CF because we're desperate for a 1.5 WAR guy there to fill the role...Yeesh. Pick some rebuilding signings rather than Bogaerts because we're still winning 65 games, that sounds like a disastrous end result -

Jim Thome hitting home runs and hustling harder to 1b than anyone else on the team did not make the starting pitching and defense collapse in 2006. -

I can understand that but it'd be worth saying that, if you want to move Anderson to CF you're basically saying you have 0 hope for Robert arriving any time soon. That would be some terrible busting. -

If Cole puts up another 6 WAR season then he's more valuable than Corbin. Cole would have put up more really good seasons than Corbin and 2 back-to-back ones, and Corbin got 6/$140 - beat that substantially for Cole if he puts up another 6 win season. -
I am over 90% sure that we are consistently told that jersey sale revenues go into an MLB central fund where they have been licensed by the league rather than by the teams.

I can think of a cheaper option who we could still sign today (angry 2016 related sigh) and there were a ton of comparable relievers who signed for less than we spent on Colome or Herrera. -
The last quoted number was something like 220,000 tickets sold - at some point you have to stop counting because there would be normal, everyday single game tickets sold otherwise that are being counted. I looked up the Phillies average ticket price last week and it was just below $40. Assuming that those 220,000 seats aren't weirdly biased in some way towards low or high price tickets, that's nearly $10 million just from the first half week of initial ticket sales, not counting parking or concessions.

Gosh that's shocking. Anyway, are people talking about Vaughn as a serious option for KC at 2?

One problem though - a guy like Verlander also might want to go to a team that is an obvious world series contender if the money is equal. -
Poor little Ricky has to leave it up to Kenny Williams to make A**es out of the front office, and is professional enough and respects his career enough to keep letting Kenny do that.

We literally saw how they blew $45 million this offseason on mostly unnecessary garbage. Extend Abreu, bring in a few other vets, overpay a reliever or two, and there's a $100 million payroll. -

Should the White Sox experiment with the "opener"?

I'd say that Nova is actually the pitcher in the rotation we should least want to use this for. We want every inning out of his arm that we can get, that's why he's here, so that we can dump innings onto his arm once a week to save the bullpen and to make up for any days that the youngsters in the rotation hurt or struggled. I really don't care if we make things easier on Nova or we help him win more games, go out and throw 200 innings for us and if you struggle early in a game, go throw 6 innings anyway.
