This is not a good sign for the Eagles. They needed to be hammering Brady early.

Well at least we've settled it, Greg is ok with Nassar being let out of jail as long as one parent gets to punch him a few times.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:33 PM) I don't understand why African Americans despised Bernie. Makes little sense. His message wasn't offensive in any way. I feel like Bernie mania would have usurped Trump mania in the long haul. Because he was just like you. They're getting gunned down in the streets and you wonder why they're so mad. After all, if you went out and shot a bunch of dogs, other dogs wouldn't be mad at you. They should go sit around and be happy that you've been nice to them once or twice and not complain. Here have a biscuit.

QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Feb 3, 2018 -> 01:24 AM) You're acting like it's a bad thing for teams to have a player that is good enough to get 10 million in their first year of arbitration No, I'm much more incensed that teams like the Dodgers would rather sit back and be passive this year when they won 100+ games last year and have a roster that could easily win the world series this year, they need pitching, they have a way that they could get it, but they won't do it because the #50 or whatever prospect in baseball is too important to what they need to do in 2020 and they just can't give that up.

QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:22 PM) They can hoard their own prospects Ideally it probably would make more sense to invest that 38 million into the farm through IFA and overslot signings then anything the Dodgers would offer but I think Hahn should at least listen. The Dodgers can go ahead and hoard the prospects they have left. They have room to sign Harper next year and I think they will. But you know what else happens in 2019? Corey Seager is in Arbitration year 1 and he's going to top the $11 million barrier Bryant was close to. So good luck in 2020 when he's even more expensive. We'll wave from the mound while celebrating.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:52 PM) Has anyone considered that the Yankees and Dodgers essentially sitting this FA period out is having a bigger ripple effect than anyone anticipated? Those two not spending in free agency decreases the pressure on other teams in their respective leagues to spend, and this could create a logjam like the one we're seeing. It might be smartest for some of these players to take the Cespedes route and sign a 1 year deal to be available for the spending spree teams are already planning for next offseason. But the other side of this...if you narrowly made the playoffs last year or were close...Twins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Red Sox, maybe Nationals, Brewers....one of these guys will cost you a lot more next year. Go take your shot this year. Good chance I'm saying that about the White Sox next year.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 08:00 PM) I wonder if they can start Nate Jones on the DL to get the extra spot to see what they have in a guy before they have to make a decision. If Nate Jones can pitch, they should pitch him. I have 0 confidence that he's going to be healthy in 2019 or 2020, so if we can get 2-3 months of health out of him, we should trade him as soon as we get a good offer. Pitch him as long as we can and then let someone else take the chance on him being healthy for a playoff drive.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 06:15 PM) There's always the possibility that the Dodgers could kick something like 8-10M the Sox way towards Kemp for 2019 and at that point, if he hits in 18, some teams may be much more interested in adding him at the deadline considering he would be a solid 9-10M DH, allowing them to gain even more prospect capital for him. Smart move to think about but definitely not a necessity I don't think it works this way. The Yankees, for example, traded Brian McCann last year to clear some payroll space knowing at the time that they wanted to get under the tax in 2018. They would have done exactly what you're saying if they could. They sent along $11 million, and their luxury tax number this year includes $5.5 million for McCann - exactly 1/2 of the money they sent over. I think per MLB Rules if you send over money, for luxury tax purposes that money is split evenly amongst the remaining years of the contract. If the Dodgers send us $10 million, then that is $5 million more that counts against their tax this year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 06:55 PM) Exactly. Bernie had no chance because accept it or not, the DNC and Hollywood and everybody on the liberal side wanted to coronate Hillary President because it was her time, her turn, her career achievement award. Bernie may have had a tough time winning it all because of the Socialist tag but he wasn't given a fair shake. In a way I don't blame the Democrats. You'd think anybody, any candidate, could beat Trump. So give Hillary her achievement award and let her claim what was rightfully hers in terms of coronation. I think Bernie had time to win more people over and I do think Bernie would have beaten Trump. He had a lot of momentum with the youngsters who loved him. Just as Trump mania was understated in the media, so was Bernie mania. I remember Hillary spoke in KC before the election and they couldn't fill bartle Hall. Half full maybe. Meanwhile Bernie came to Lawrence and the building was sold out and lines around the block. DNC didn't give Bernie a chance to sweep the country with Bernie mania cause of the aforementioned reasons. He clearly wasn't given a fair shake. After all, take a look at who voted for him - it was all Obama's voters in anyone who deserves to count.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:02 PM) I'm guessing they aren't going to cast off a 1st to swap s***ty contracts. I didn't realize until just now that Asik has a 2019/2020 player option that he's likely to pick up. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 12:20 PM) The prospect they get for taking Kemp better be really, really good. It would be $43 million they can't spend on other guys including Manny Machado. QUOTE (Sarava @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 01:16 PM) Unless the prospect coming back is a Luis Robert caliber prospect (and it won't be), then the Sox should pass. Save their money for next winter. That's kinda where I'm at too. The idea is great in theory, but the Dodgers or Yankees would need to move so much salary to us for it to make sense that they're not going to give up the prospect we want. If the Yankees wanted us to take on all Ellsbury's remaining deal, that is $69 million. He's not a worthless player, but he's basically worthless to us, the only reason we would do that is to get the prospect. If Robert is a $50 million cost, name a player on the Yankees org worth more than that and you get to "guys they won't give up". It might make more sense for the Dodgers, but the Dodgers don't have the right caliber of prospects in their system to pull this off save one or two guys.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:24 AM) Have the Dodgers kick in half his salary for 2019. It's a work around I see where the Dodgers stay under the luxury tax this year to be able to reset their penalties to extend Kershaw and sign Harper if they want and sign Darvish for 2018 and beyond. IIRC there are rules somewhere stating that if you chip in salary it gets spread out across the deal when counted for tax purposes.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 05:13 PM) The Bulls just added Asik...I really don't think their plan is to go big in free agency this off-season. Good point, but they should still be able to do 1 max deal unless they take on another salary for next year. -
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 06:40 PM) I'm sorry, but if the Sox can help the Dodgers cut payroll and add a solid prospect to our system in the process, I have to do that deal. The Dodgers then have more ability to sign Darvish, leaving only Arrieta on the table. If Kemp only provides veteran leadership as the 25th man off the bench, it seems worth the $ when payroll is so low right now anyway. For that matter, make a trade with the Brewers, to help them free up $ for Arrieta and kick us a prospect as well. What am I missing? Well first of all no one cares about veteran leadership from Matt Kemp or really any other player. If we need more veteran leadership than Jose Abreu then frankly we need better coaches. On top of that, yeah Kemp isn't a guy with that good of a leadership rep. More than that, you don't need to apologize for the "add a solid prospect to our system" part. Including me, everyone above you has basically said "doing this in free agency isn't a good idea at all, we wouldn't want to just take on Kemp, but if the Dodgers made it worth it to us - by doing as you say and giving us something we'd want, we'd go for it". So we basically agree with you except on the veteran leadership part.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 06:01 PM) I think finding out if Sanchez can be a 2-3 WAR player moving forward is more important than creating a spot for Matt Davidson or creating depth on a team that is incredibly unlikely to compete for anything that isn't a top 5 draft pick. That said, bring on Kemp as a DH if he comes with appropriate prospect compensation or something interesting from their ML roster like Joc Pederson. Not just Sanchez...guys like Delmonico, Cordell, and Leury could need places to get ABs once the mutant is called up and takes over a corner OF spot at mid-season. If we got something back of more use I'm ok with it, but I wouldn't spend new money on a DH. Way too many guys to rotate through there already.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 02:43 PM) Yeah for sure. And looking at the free agent tracker, you have Morrison, Melky (teammates seemed to like him), Bautista, Duda, Ethier, and Carlos Gonzalez (rotate between DH and OF) just to name some. I wouldn't mind Davidson getting a chunk of the at bats (he'll still get a decent amount between 3B/1B/DH and based on what other positions a new primary DH can play) but I wouldn't be mad if they signed someone else. Or depending on what else comes over, a deal for Kemp. I would be kinda mad if they signed someone else because not only should Davidson get some ABs there, but we should also expect that Delmonico and Cordell could get some ABs there in the 2nd half of the season because the thing in RF in AA will be coming up. If we took on a DH to save someone else money and got something of value back, that's a different story. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 03:58 PM) I don't agree with that logic. Moving Niko already assists in those efforts. Having strong veterans who help young players develop, learn how to win and grow and strive in this league, are very valuable. I'll miss Niko because I do think he's finally emerged as a good player but I'm glad we got a real asset for him. Albeit, odds are the player we get with the pick will never amount to being near as good as Niko...the bright side is, our existing pick should get better. One other note - if you want to be able to have a shot at "2 max deals" this offseason, you pretty much have to move Lopez. -
So have people attention to the stuff that has come out that this group at the Baltimore police department was doing, their "Gun task force"? The police will probably go to jail but they'll go to jail for defrauding the city by charging them too much overtime and stealing drug and money evidence. The other stuff is the kind of stuff that would make you question an entire department. Some of their tactics included finding crowds of african american men on the street, flooring their accelerators at the crowds, opening their doors, and chasing and arresting whoever ran away from the cars driving straight at them. They picked out certain cars, particularly hondas, as cars they'd make up excuses to pull over to search for drugs. Stopping african american males for carrying bags and arresting them if they didn't allow a search. They all also apparently carried fake guns to plant on suspects.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 11:59 AM) Sounds like the same exact thing we heard about Houston for months and months last year... They were so close to being screwed by that decision that people don't realize how lucky they got that Verlander turned up available after the waiver wire deadline. If he'd simply used his 10-5 rights, Houston would not have won the world series. -
Hey guess what...1 week away again.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 06:46 PM) This can only hurt his trade value. Disagree. Everyone knows he's on the market and everyone knows deals are close with teams that want his help this year. They won't do this for more than a couple games; they'd even run afoul of the players association if they did this and then held him for too long.
