  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 03:03 PM) Charlotte rotation: 1. Michael Kopech 2. Spencer Adams 3. Jordan Guerrero 4. Jordan Stephens 5.Dylan Covey 6. Tyler Danish QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 03:04 PM) I mean most of the AA guys are gonna move up right? Kopech, Stephens Guerrero Adams. Then you have danish possibly or some minor league fa QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 03:06 PM) And possibly Covey. Is Danish mostly viewed as a reliever right now? With how big that list is, unless they think Rodon is out the whole year, I'm not sure a minor league level starter has a job here, unless they do one of those contracts that gives the guy an out if he doesn't make the big league roster by April 15.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:54 PM) Doesn't hurt to bring in a veteran on a minor league deal to compete with Fulmer for a spot. Who else is likely bound for the rotation at Charlotte other than Kopech?

  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:06 PM) Isn't George a 2019 FA? This was before a couple guys (Durant, Embiid, Westbrook) signed extensions, but unless there's a new contract I don't know about George is on the list for this summer.
  5. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:27 PM) Yup looks about right. Feels good to have some stability. Barring injuries, MiGo probably goes to the pen when Rodon comes back. Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it.
  6. Well there's the 5th starter warm body. Cheaper than what it cost us for Holland last year.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:28 PM) I tend to agree with you. George is good, but not as dynamic as other elite players. He's still pretty good though and we need to get as many good players as possible and then hope one becomes elite (imo). Aside from Lebron, who would you count as an elite player available in free agency next year? CP3 - maybe Houston keeps him? Demarcus Cousins - anyone else terrified of signing him Isiah Thomas DeAndre Jordan Paul George Then it tails off into a second tier with Avery Bradley, LaMarcus Aldridge, the guys who are restricted free agents, etc. Obviously you make your offer to Lebron, but if he doesn't sign what's your next option that you prefer much more than George?
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:41 AM) Yeah, just their lowest employees get a raise, and if they work a full day it comes to probably just under $7 a day after taxes since their minimum was $10. ?
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:07 AM) Given the young players who have developed / shown...does anyone think Paul George would be a good fit? Do the Bulls try making a run at George? Thinking out loud here. Or do they wait one more off-season? The Bulls should have space for a max contract this offseason and IIRC it becomes questionable at best afterwards if they intend to extend LaVine. On top of that, this offseason there are currently only a handful of teams that can offer a max deal at all, most of them blew their cap numbers wide open 2 years ago when the cap suddenly increased and it isn't going up this season as much as expected at that time, so even though they're terrible at getting people to sign there, this is the one offseason where the max deal people might not have a choice. It's been rumored a lot that George wants to go to LA, but obviously LAs going to prioritize Lebron and who knows how the Baller stuff is playing with the players. The Bulls need to walk away from this offseason with a strong signing, whoever it is. George fits the bill. I am open to other ideas.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 05:22 AM) But it’s still a double tax on that same money that was originally earned and taxed by an individual. The money to pay the tax is likely coming from the same source, or borrowing against it (collateralizing). Which is one of the reasons the tax basis of the original investment portfolio/trust is bumped up to day of death...or 30 days subsequent to that. So is a sales tax.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 07:56 AM) Yeah probably. Add Tillman to this list. Hasn't there been a number of teams saying they're interested in him?
  12. Unfortunately for Mr. Trump, there is precedent here - the Supreme Court previously ruled that the President can be forced to testify in cases relating to things that happened before he took office, his staff can be forced to testify, his lawyers can be forced to testify. Almost all of that was officially decided during the Clinton administration due to subpoenas from Ken Starr. He can also be called to testify for crimes related to actions in office. Apparently KellyAnne Conway's husband was one of the key litigators in those cases, I just learned.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:17 AM) It f***ing sucks as this should have been a slam dunk trial against treasonous activity, instead now the case is blown, and all of the misdeeds of the government will serve as further fodder from the same sorts of lunatics who are still feeding off of things like Waco and Ruby Ridge. It's not just being fodder for them. The people in this case are going to break the law again. People in their groups literally killed a police officer at the Nevada standoff. I don't disagree with the Judge's decision either, but if we're mad at the government - this is legitimately a threat to public safety that they have created. Right now.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 01:10 PM) Rite Aid won't let them because they believe that Trump is a Nigerian prince. Huh?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 02:32 PM) I wanted the big ten to go 7-1 in the bowl games. But i would never chant Big Ten if a other team won national title. It’s stupid. Almost every year I root against the Indians for obvious reasons. I will never chant "Go Indians!" or "AL Central!". Against the Cubs in the World Series? Yeah I wanted the Indians to win.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 02:00 PM) Patience this offseason is going to screw a lot of players. It is unbelievable how slow the market has been, and it does seem while some guys will get paid, several are going to have it cost them. And wait until next year when Boras keeps Harper out there forever, which should probably keep Machado out there forever, which means a lot of guys will probably be just about at spring training before they know where they will play. Interestingly, if you're a team that's close and you have some money to spend (Colorado? Arizona? Minnesota? Texas?) there might be enough affordable players available on the FA market at the end of this month to push you over the top and into the AL/NLCS next year. IIRC Cleveland did something like that a few years ago, their 2013? ish playoff appearance was all because they spent money on guys like Swisher and Michael Bourn at the end of the offseason to supplement the remainder of their big league squad. The contracts weren't great at the end, but they got a playoff appearance out of it.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:27 AM) The Sox at least have young talent to surround him with, but if they are as successful as hoped, and that success is to be sustained, they are all going to get expensive at the same time. It would be interesting to see how the White Sox did revenue-wise with a team that was really good for several years. They have had it before, but not in the additional WC era, and there always seemed to be something to derail it. Either a strike or major injuries. The last time they rebuilt, a couple of major pieces fled when it was time to get paid. Black Jack got traded for a meager piece, sorry Lyle Mouton. Young Alex left, and the Boy Wonder wound up with the Mets. Then you better win your title before that happens. That’s the billion dollar, franchise shaping question: do we win a title or not? That shapes your ad deals, ticket sales, probably even the next sale of the franchise. If you are worried about $5 million a year and it costs you a title, then you deserve to have the guys walk when they get too pricey for you. You will have failed to capitalize on the opportunity you created by the successful 2017 reloading.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:06 AM) To the White Sox that is somewhere around 5% of their player spending budget on the top end. It is significant. This is a great example of "Penny-wise, pound-foolish".
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:58 AM) If you are Machado's agent, what's the rush? Wouldn't you want to see if the teams that were willing to pony up the money for Harper and didn't land him, may want to spend on your client? If the White Sox came in and met their price, and they weren't ready to take it, the White Sox could easily go elsewhere also.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:56 AM) By the reports of the time, it cost the Rangers $70 million extra to get Alex Rodriguez. If we're signing a 10 year contract with an opt-out, that's $7 million a year extra. That's the difference between what, $28 mil and $35 mil a year on paper? We wasted that much money on Cabrera and LaRoche (well, would have on LaRoche had he not retired). If we're not going to learn our lessons from where we failed and made mistakes previously then we're going to see the same results. If Machado is our guy, and so far RH is acting like it, it's worth an extra $70 million in contract value (which may never be paid) to get him and be done with it. We have no bad contracts after this season, if we can put ourselves in the playoffs for 3 or 4 years or win a title then there remains huge room for revenue growth, $7 million a year does not bother me when I've seen us spend $11 million a year on LaRoche.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:35 AM) "The final package could look like this: Giolito (or Anderson), Cease, Rutherford and Collins." - Rogers That package would be fireable offense for a GM to commit at this stage in the rebuild. Even if none of those players pan out it would be a terrible use of our farm assets. We don't have another viable SS prospect in the system, so Anderson is not going anywhere. Offering Giolito + Cease + Rutherford + Collins would be more than enough to land Chris Archer, let alone Christian Yelich. Heck, I was thinking that'd be a very weird package for the Marlins to accept and you thought it'd be terrible for the White Sox. Every one of those guys seems to have their stock kinda low right now - who knows if Giolito can take his talent and turn it into production, Anderson had an awful year, Cease has great talent but has to prove he can stay healthy, Rutherford had a down year, Collins barely hit over .200 and had a strikeout and swing issues. The Marlins would be getting back 4 "you fix them" kinda guys. I'd have been furious with that return for Sale or Quintana.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:35 AM) Well yeah if the money is the same, I wouldn't expect him to sign here. They'd have to offer the most. If Rick Hahn is convinced that Machado is their guy, then Machado should be the first big signing of the offseason. Harper won't sign early, we all know that will wait until the winter meetings if not longer because Boras. If 3b/SS is still our need next offseason and Machado is target #1, the extra $2-3 million a year we might save on him by negotiating isn't worth the risk of him going somewhere else. Call them up on the day that he declares FA, get their numbers, put an offer on the table that works for you, and get it done in November.
  23. Is that for the primary or the general? Is Az a California like thing, where if 5 Democrats run and only 2 Republicans run, the Democrats will split their votes and the general election will be between 2 Republicans?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 05:07 PM) True. I just have been influenced so much by Hollywood and the daily barrage of anti-Trump articles that I assumed everybody in the USA despised him. I remain a bit worried about the North Korea situation. Trump is definitely capable of a first strike on NK and that would not be good. In fact it might be the end of us all. He orders a strike and next thing you know we hear they've sent a few nukes our way and our defense system has no idea how to knock those nukes out of the sky. Getting rid of brown people makes an awful lot of people in this country happy.
  25. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 12:09 PM) It's the SEC. Every team is awesome so OOC games are not important. The only team right now that to me has any right to talk trash about scheduling in the SEC is Central Florida. Teams had their chance to prove that the SEC teams didn't belong there. The SEC teams clearly belonged there, they beat the best of the 1 loss teams.
