  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Of course. People aren't that stupid. If they're paying money for something they weren't before, they'll blame the people in power. And you can bet your ass the Dems will make that a central part of their messaging. And in 2016 they blamed the blah peoples. That was the thing that got them to the polls - the blah peoples were taking advantage of the free healthcare and free welfare and free obamaphones that the deserving people couldn't take advantage of. That was the overwhelming set of responses to poll questions - people were motivated by all the free stuff they imagine the blah people's get.
  2. 1b and even 1b? Well then. I don't think even I saw that coming, having him play 1b twice in the same game.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) IIRC the Bears were up 14-6 AND Vinatieri missed a FG, which never happens in the playoffs, yet from there the “great defense” stopped tackling. I felt like they missed one tackle on every run play. Grossman didn’t play well, but the defense was awful That defense couldn't slow the run down. Almost as if they were missing their key DT and their #1 tackling safety. Those injuries really were key.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) At this point I'm like f*** it. f***ing do it. There's nothing we can do to stop it, so just do it and invite the wrath of 300 million people upon the Republican party. It's already going to be a blue tsunami, why not make it a category 5 hurricane to boot? So...when we are paying a fee just to access Soxtalk.com next year, do people really know enough policy to connect that to "Net Neutrality"? I'd imagine less than 50% of people out there actually know that well enough to make the connection. What will happen I guess is that most people will just see their cable rates going up as another way that Comcast has found to screw people, and so when a politician comes along telling them wink wink how they are getting screwed because of all the free things going to blah peoples, they'll scream and yell how they're right.
  5. I've been thinking for a while that Rodon doesn't seem to be meshing with this pitching coach/staff, he hasn't seemed to take the step forward I thought he'd take even in 2016, and then throw in injury. If the White Sox turn him into a long-term deal with Machado, that fits needs for both teams IMO.
  6. So Disney officially buying 20th century fox and their entire programming catalog
  7. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Scot Gregor‏ @scotgregor 5m5 minutes ago More Would assume any #WhiteSox trade package offer to Orioles started with Carlos Rodon I'm game.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Especially if Abreu and/or Avi gets dealt, it makes a decent amount of sense. They keep making moves consistent with expecting one or both of those guys to be gone, then saying at the same time they won't come down off their price.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Or the fact that you have 4 spots filled in the rotation rght now and have rodon on the dl till he comes back plus 3 rookies in the rotation. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Wouldn't look too far into it Chief I'd like to sign Bucholz and Tillman and try and flip them in July Let's just face it, they expect Kopech up quickly.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Cease has been handled with baby gloves his entire career. We have no idea what happens when they take the reigns off a bit. While I want to be optimistic, we still need to see signs of him being able to handle a major league starter’s workload. To me Hansen seems like the real deal and a guy who could quickly become a top 5 pitching prospect in no time. Cease has a long road ahead of him before he ever enters that conversation. Cease is also more than a year younger.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman 3h3 hours ago Arizona seems to want to free up Greinke $ for main target JD Martinez. D-backs like Red Sox are expected to meet today with JD. Does this mean Arizona is trying to move Greinke? Or to rework his contract somehow?
  12. Has anyone checked to see if he has a pulse? They have? Then I'm ok with this.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) To be fair, Gammons compared Fulmer to Scherzer mentally, i.e., both extremely intelligent individuals who can figure out how to overcome mechanical quirks. Gammons was not implying (and explicitly said so), that Fulmer had Scherzer's stuff. If he has some ability to overcome mechanical quirks that could really help him as his mechanics were pretty weird the second we drafted him. Worth thinking that "inconsistency" has been one of the things contributing to his struggles, both from his part and from where he's been pitching at.
  14. is that the same one that Tanaka has been pitching with?
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) After his debut, Fulmer was quite good in the Majors last year. His peripherals in the bigs weren't that good, but I'll take him having some confidence for next year over anything.
  16. Thank you black people. Maybe we can get some folks who have been utterly silent on voter suppression to care one iota one group overwhemingly sided with a child predator?
  17. Then they better be ready to extend him.
  18. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) What if Harper wants nothing to do with us though? Increase the check size.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Trump really put himself in a tough spot with this one. If Moore wins, he will take full credit, and would one really want to? Yes.
  20. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) Me too. No reason to give assets to someone you could potentially get for free. Question: If the Yankees get Machado and Cole then how does that change things for the Sox? Realistically, at that point, the rebuild is doomed to nothing more than make the playoffs, hope and pray that you can beat the Yankees. That's just not how it works. We'll still have overwhelming talent and plenty of money to spend. F*** it trade Garcia sign Harper.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) When is the last time a 48-72 hour window went down in the MLB? Looks like there was one when RA Dickey was traded to the Blue Jays. Google isn't giving me anything firm since then.
  22. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:38 PM) Obviously there would be a 72 hr window along with that. I'd still rather pass, hold the pitchers, and if he's not available as a FA target someone else.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) They are very different. Competing with Cleveland , Minnesota, Detroit, and KC, especially with the passing of Mike Illitch, $200 million payrolls aren't going to happen with any of them, let alone 2. If the White Eox right the ship, they will have an advantage. Opening day 2017 payroll: You are correct by a whopping $249,400.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:10 PM) I just posted in the other thread, but at $10m/year, they would be looking to get a couple prospects for him at that price (no top prospects of course). I'm clearly interested if we're talking about top guys. I'm not sure I'm as interested if we're talking about iffy guys. Our system is pretty full with that right now.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) If the Yankees pick up the half of his money that has been the rumor, I'd be on it. You're not getting both of those prospects if they put in that much money.
